SFPOM; Congress Speaks:

Day 3,090, 17:36 Published in USA USA by Jimmy Cincinnati

SFP Official Media Release Issue #24

Last Night, I asked the SFP congress members for a couple paragraphs about their experience and goals. Within 24 hrs, I heard from most of the congress members.
Frank Stone said he was traveling. I haven't seen a reply from shiloh13 or Edgar Figaro.
This is what we were able to report:

The report on SPF influence in congress:

Of the six open threads in the congressional forum, the two most promising are from the SPF caucus, whose members without a fault have held themselves above the sTrolling that is so evident, even when target by the sTrollers (I likely would not be able to make this claim, if it were not for me being banned from posting). Other interesting facts, you do not even need to play eRepublik presently to have a voice in the discussions or the sTrolling.

Where my vote can possibly make a difference, I noticed a lack of attention. Congressional players were so conditioned to letting the ruling junta rule over them. The fact they needed to vote to keep the junta funded, almost eluded them.

Almost fail? That or everyone was wondering how to leverage monies from the junta themselves. Speaking of juntas, asked a RL Salvadorian friend about his countries junta (translated, means together), with a sneer, he relied junta junta... (not for editor, in case the reference is not clear enough, my friend was saying junta was f-cking El Salvadore)

Here goes:

My experience in Congress hasn't really been the most inspiring experience I've had in eRepublik. Discussions tend to be hijacked and turned into arguments over ages-old points of contention. My personal theory is that people in Congress have been there for so long that it has become less about the eUSA and more about who's got the most power, the most clout (art imitating life?). I have on occasion seen signs of genuine teamwork and cooperation, but those are few and far between. Really, I'd give Congress low marks if I had to grade it as an experience for players.

My goal this term is amnesty for the Bear Cavalry members blacklisted last December. I hope to achieve this to finally, finally put the blacklist issue to rest so we can focus on other things. This proverbial axe hanging over our heads hobbles us politically, I think, for fear of stepping on toes and harming the opportunity to get something done the right way. Resolving the blacklist issue is the first step toward free and open discourse with the others in the eUSA.

Well, this is my first time here so im still learning ropes and the ins and out. So far I'd say this term has been far more education than productive, but I do think I've participated more than most expected me to. The trolls are real, but if you ignore them, congress can seem quite nice actually. I was able to get right in and start discussing matters with other congressmen. I feel that if I ever had any questions that SFP has my back to answer and support me as I become more seasoned.

TO sum it up: 11/10 would run again.

*Ilene Dover*

During the CP elections last month, PilotPhil and Josh Whitehead convinced me to join SFP. To be honest, SFP was the only party to ask me to join...
The call went out for congress nominations and I reluctantly put my hand up. I hate congress under a dictatorship (see my profile!) and would really really rather not... Anyway, the gimps at SFP put me top of their list. No escape!! 😕

Being top of the list means people have expectations of you. I don't know what they are, to be honest. I'm trying to live up to them...

So, what do I stand for? Openness and accountability. Taking (and assigning) responsibility for actions and decisions. Activity (in the damn game!).

And always, always helping the new kid out. If I hadn't been given a leg up and an opportunity to prove myself at 2 weeks old there's a good chance I wouldn't be here today with all that wonderful story. How many other stories have been strangled in their infancy because someone was "too new" to trust?

*Azazel Romonov*

I've served several previous terms in congress, supported several different things over the course of my career (most I can't remember). My main goal has always been to support reasonable policies and act with logic in most of my actions rather than emotion. I would like to see taxes moderately reduced, but not to the extent of harming our reserve significantly. I also want to see an amnesty bill move through for SFP members who are blacklisted, since a 3-4 month bar is enough for a rebellion that did not cause irreparable harm.

I wouldn't mind seeing more reporting and transparency as well, but there needs to be a balance between maintaining secure information and providing the public with adequate knowledge of affairs.

*GonzoVeritas*

I've served in Congress for 14 different terms, first with the FEDs and now with SFP. Most of the issues I have focused upon were taxation issues or trying to keep the cliques in Congress from blacklisting people. For the past few Congressional sessions, it seems that the entrenched players have spent their time dwelling on petty matters. That needs to change.

The issues that are important to me are making sure the game stays interesting, that players can make a profit and grow their experience and businesses, and just generally have a reason to log in. I moved to SFP because they seemed to be the antithesis of the stagnation that was destroying the game. Lower taxes, new and radical approaches to making the game interesting and promoting SFP throughout the game and in Congress have been my focus.

Another thing I would like to accomplish in the near term is working with groups, both in-Congress and in-party, to work on attracting fresh players to the game and to SFP. The eUSA needs fresh blood, new leaders, and a new way of looking at the game.

SFP is growing fast and it is important that we leverage our block of votes to secure a solid place at the table.

Thanks to everyone, for your replies and for the time you shared with us.

The Party Presidential Elections are upcoming. I'll ask the candidates to introduce themselves and tantalize the SFPOM readers with some transparency.

Later!
