very sad news his death, he could have given us so much, but he must have been called to the heaven of guitar heroes and hell of a band they are gathering!
Both David Bowie and Prince within a short time frame. It's like we lost the whole first division now.
Frankly said, I never felt anything for tafkap, just not my kind of music. Although, back in the day, I was forced to dance on 1999 and purple rain, but both have real shitty lyrics. 😛
Still, it's sad that a guy dies that young. 🙁
Both Bowie with Let's Dance and Prince with Purple Rain had the commercial touch in the 80's. Purple Rain was as you know made for the movie with the same name.
If the lyrics are shitty or not is of course dependant on how one choose to interpretate it. Personally I think it has specific and well chosen words for what it is meant to be about:
I never meant to cause you any sorrow
I never meant to cause you any pain
I only wanted to one time to see you laughing
I only wanted to see you
Laughing in the purple rain
But from the same album both "When doves cry" and "Let's go crazy" gives a clearer impression of Prince's mind.
I was into hardrock back then. And yes, it's all about someone choice and taste ofcourse. It's good that there's something for everyone.

Prince was multiinstrumentist and a great band leader, respected and cherished, While he plays he tells to the rest of the band the chords to follow him playing.
