Never fight a land war in Asia

Day 403, 17:25 Published in USA Canada by Dillan Stone

Napoleon lost an empire there. Hitler lost an empire there. Now Romania's elite troops are swarming over the Russian Steppes.

Unfortunately for Russia, its combination of a relatively undeveloped economy and rich natural resources made it a tempting target for invasion.

Even more unfortunately for Russia, eRepublik doesn't emulate the famous Russian winters which have undone all those before who attempted to conquer Russia from the west.

This bodes poorly for ATLANTIS, in that Russia has been forced to seek MPPs from PEACE nations; Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Hungary and Brazil have already signed to defend Russia from Romania.

While this will give Romania a direct-front against PEACE, and thereby potentially reduce PEACE's effectiveness in Western Europe, it has also turned Russia, a potential friend with significant economic potential, into a likely permanent member of the PEACE coalition.

In the end, Romania's potential gain is our likely long-term loss - Russian raw materials will flow into PEACE nations instead of ATLANTIS nations - in particular the Iron we are hurting for.

America and her close allies need Iron. In large amounts. More than anything else, war in eRepublik is about directly converting economic power into military power. And it is there, that Romania's war-itch hurts us most.

The most lamentable thing, is that Romania is going to go for an attack on a newly freed nation, rather than using the leverage of resistance war and direct attacks on far more deserving nearby targets, like, say, Turkey. Ah, but that's Asia, and you don't fight a land war there... right.
