Im so confused... what is this?
About edit, remember the 30days limit.
darn lol
You can copy/republisg it every 28/29 days and delete the previous one. So you can ever edit it. 😛
The reason why the Communist movement over the last century has failed is because all it has done is turned into totalitarian or authoritarian regimes. Human individualism will always prevail. I reject communism for the same reason I reject the notion of god.
Religion as a totalitarian state-- interesting position; hard to disagree.
The Vatican is basically an absolute monarchy if you think about it
There are plenty of reasons why I reject the notion of god, but I have found this argument resonates with people the most and gets them to think independently.
Because we are brought up to believe that an omnipotent god is nurturing and caring.
Technically the Vatican IS an absolute monarchy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPHRIjI3hXs&ab_channel=CGPGrey
And I respect your view. When it comes to religion I am a Deist.
I respect everyone's view that doesn't try to convert me. 🙂 To a scientist, no religion can be proven and no political system has proven itself so... I'm all for fleeting truths and excellent creatures and beer. 😃
Anarchy is the best form of government!
Unless you're old and sick with my family left...
Theo, don't bring RL politics into the game... A little role playing is fine, and even fun. But I don't know (or frankly care) what everyone's RL political leanings are.
I've never understood the argument that rl politics should not be brought in. Almost everyone plays who the way they do because they are influenced by rl politics. I for one relish a good discussion on politics and religion, on any forum.
In as much as we represent our own personalities here, influence by RL politics is unavoidable. So is the influence of our parents, spouses, children, siblings, teachers and all the others in our lives.
In person, I'll have a friendly discussion about any topic. I talk to the JWs that make it past my dog. I won't convert, but I enjoy the intellectual stimulation of the argument. 🙂
Politics and religion can end a lot of good friendships. I know I'm different to a lot of my friends. FFS, I stayed on a couch in Houston with a U.S. army Sgt who voted for Bush II. Twice!! We couldn't be more different in our political leanings (I've been a Greenpeace member for nearly 15 years). But, as long as we stay off politics (and at the time also the Iraq War...) we remain excellent friends.
This is true to an extent, but I believe civil discourse on any topic keeps people together.
I think it is all dependent on the politics being discussed as well. For example, I won't lose a friend on the Republic v Monarch debate. But invariably I don' think I would want to be friends with someone that was advocating that Franco was good for Spain.
That is truly interesting you spent time in Houston with an Army Sgt. Greenpeace member and a Conservative army person living together. That is almost a sitcom.
For us, it was about mutual interests. Mostly travelling (we met at a hostel in Paris.)...
I know a bunch of dudes in the Green Machine (and veterans for that matter). Regardless, I don't think we would've ever normally found ourself in the same circle of friends. Travel FTW! 🙂
If you don't care what my RL politics are then just ignore it
Happy to. 🙂
Was just a friendly comment...
I wasn't trying to sound harsh when I said that but its hard to tell over the internet.
Personally I think I am the type of person that would be less radical if more socialistic policies would be introduced where I live (United States). We have a system where the rich gets away with everything and they pretty much own the republican party, I can go on for days.
I couldn't agree more! How many people were jailed for causing the GFC? How many company directors go to jail for damage to society's common property (ie the environment) compared to some hick damaging a rich white man's personal property?
The whole thing is pathetic. We're heading back to an aristocracy. The 20th century meritocracy was an aberration...
The United States current system is enough to push a educated man/woman who thinks for himself/herself to an extremist position. By the way if you live in the USA, Vote Bernie Sanders 2016 😃
I don't, as has been pointed out to me today in a separate thread. 😕
I haven't been back since 2011. Things seemed frustrated then. Guess it hasn't gotten better...
Deficits are down which is good, but it is not enough. The main problems I see in the US is the perversion of secularism (If I pretended to know the mind of the founding fathers, I would suspect they would be horrified at this).
Lack of honesty from parties is a major problem constituents.
The other being special interests taking over politics. Over the needs of the people.
All of this is applicable to Australia, at varying levels.

In the United States we have something called "Lobbying" now for those who don't know what that is, its where the rich and the corporations pay politicians in the legislature to get what they want. Now wait that isn't right? That would sound like corruption! In the "freest country on earth"? The Blind patriotism here is sickening, people still think when we send our soldiers off to war it's to "protect our freedoms".
I thought a user-pays service was exactly what freedom was all about, in a capitalistic sense.
Freedom for the wealthy
