How Romania became a dictatorship

Day 2,858, 06:12 Published in Australia Australia by Damian Gaby

Hi guys and girls, I've got some news from the other side of the world for you today.

So, as you may know, about a week ago to celebrate their fifth birthday the Romanian military unit Nemesis staged a coup in Hungary. They set up a military unit, put forward the 200.000 CC needed and started the war. As Hungary and Romania are allies, they took everyone by surprise. Nemesis is a very strong MU, and despite Hungarian tanking at first they were winning. Huge sums of money were being spent by Hungary, but to no avail. So, the Hungarians called upon their allies, and they all started to come, but still, Nemesis was winning. Finally, Nemesis started to run out of money and energy bars and Hungary, helped by really strong Chilean tanking and even with the help of a few Romanians who did not agree with what Nemesis was doing started to win rounds. At the end of the war, Nemesis had 55 points, not bad at all for a single MU against pretty much the entire world.

Well, as things started to calm down, the aftermath began. From the beginning the Romanian government had issued an official statement disassociating the country from the attack. Despite this, many in Hungary viewed Romania as the enemy, even though the attack was carried out by a single M.U. Some strong articles in the Romanian media began to circulate with people accusing left and right about either participating in the coup or for fighting for Hungary. The reasons stretch back deep in RL, where relations between Romania and Hungary have always been strained due mostly to the centuries of Hungarian occupation over parts of Romania. This is reflected in the game where Hungarian-Romanian rivalries are some of the strongest in the eWorld and despite the peace the two countries don't really like each other to much.

Asteria, the alliance of which Romania is a part of was also pretty pissed of, especially Serbians who have a lot of friends in Hungary. This of course caused a lot of strained relations and despite the Romanians government's best efforts, there was some pretty strong language used against the Romanian representatives.

Faced with the backlash, the Romanian government summoned all of it's MU leaders to a conference in its SMR (Statul Major Roman - Romanian Major State - rough translation - a meeting point for the general strategy of Romania and military directions and coordination) where it was voted upon that Nemesis would be henceforth excluded from the SMR - therefore no longer a part of the Romanian official war efforts and strategic planning.

Nemesis however are in general a MU that always does things on it's own and won't really be effected by the ban, so up until now their defence has been it's a game and we had fun - and to be honest, they did and along side them so did a lot of other people including the Hungarians. Rogue elements in the Romanian government tried to get Romania to start a proper war with Hungary - mostly because people are bored with the current state of affairs and believe that a war with Hungary will lead to more fun - which to be honest it probably will. However, with the current situation around that area of Europe and the MPP stacks, this is not a good strategic move from Romania. Nemesis senators in the parliament proposed a NE law against Hungary for about 3 days on a row, with the law failing by only a few votes. Faced with this, the Romanian elected president decided to turn his country into a dictatorship, in order to protect it from the Nemesis threat. This had the backing of almost all MU's of Romania and succeeded, with VampireA becoming the new dictator in Romania.

How things will progress from this we shall see, one thing is for certain, the waters are not calm in that part of the world...
