Honours System... From The Realms Of Congress!

Day 2,729, 10:39 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by HebronGazelle

Dear countrymen... Today I bring you something interesting from the realms of Congress, an honours system suggestion. I have been trying to get people in Congress to discuss it again, but I would also like to hear from the public. You may love it or hate it, or have your own improvement suggestions, but I would like to hear from as many people as possible to get a good idea on how to progress this proposal. So, read on...

An Honours System

The idea of an honours system was brought up in Congress a few days ago and was briefly talked about by several Congressmen before the immigration talks took over. For the purpose of this article I will quote certacito from the Congress PM for the original honours system suggestion that I would like the public to discuss.

"I think that we can do better than this!

I would like to propose a scheme for even wider distribution of the National Reserve - to be called upon on times of National Emergency.

The aim should be to reduce the risk of theft of funds by firstly spreading the reserve wider (making the total sum held less attractive as an tempting opportunity target), whilst combining some form of RECOGNITION for the holder which reflects the service that he/she is undertaking for the Nation.

The recognition part could take the form of an HONOUR or TITLE, such as a Knighthood, bestowed by the Monarch in recognition for services to the Nation.

The award system must be apolitical, with honours being distributed right across the political spectrum, with selection based upon nominations from Party Presidents, being made by the Country President, to then be approved and promulgated by the Monarch. This would ensure that it s made very difficult for one party or faction to 'pack' the list with stooges.

For individuals who put in long periods of service for the Nation, it is possible to bestow higher level honours (such as a Peerage), to be kept in on the 'Active Honours' List for as long as the Individual remains active. A certain amount of imagination and fun can be incorporated into the derivation of the titles (both Woldy and Horice (Privy Councillor?) have proven track records in this area).

If we do this right, the Honours system will generate that all important sense of fun, whilst generating a sense of National Identity which will help to bind our small Nation.

In summary:

- Trusty citizens (x 20?)
- Nominated by PPs, selected by CP, proved by Monarch
- Each successful candidate receives a Knighthood and a lump of Reserve Cash (5k?)
- Reserve funds to be 'mobilised' when needed by Government by signing of 'Kings Order' by Monarch
- Titles 'stripped' from individuals who 'lose' their reserve, fail to respond to 'King's Order', or go inactive."

Some Of My Reasons For Wanting An Honours System

"Increase activity and helpfulness."
Undoubtedly there will be people who want a knighthood or other honour. But how do we get those honours? By helping the community or doing something productive of course, which means we will see more people writing articles or helping their military units to have a chance of receiving an honour. There is no way that can be a negative thing for the eUK.

"It might actually have a purpose."
Providing we give it one. One of the suggestions was to give each knight or dame a small part of the treasury to hold until the country needs it which makes the honour system meaningful, but if one individual loses their money we haven't lost the whole of the treasury. That isn't the only purpose this system could have, it depends on how meaningful we make it. My only thought is that we shouldn't give them too much power as this will be outside of game mechanics.

"Increase patriotism in the eUK."
A knighthood is something very British, we all know that. Fighting to improve our country and then becoming a knight of the United Kingdom will give us that patriotic tingle inside of us.

"I want one."
And don't lie, I know you do too!

Finally, Who's Active?

I thought I should just update the public on who is active in my Congress PM. This is based on the latest PM so only counts for the past week, and remember not all Congressmen are in this PM as there are two Congress PM's.

Talke😛
Sir Humphrey Appleby
NigelFarage
Max Blue
WookieO
Bruce Wayne.
Lord of Bones
Aultman
Massacar
certacito
KearoB
Aaron Mark Daniels
CheetahCurtis
Fataliix
Paul Tyndale
Rory Winterbourne II
Alexander Atem
Mr Woldy
Gego Gugula
Rob the Bruce

Didn't Talk:
Rodney Mckay
BaronChris
Kai Bloodworth
Deepfryedmarsbar
Mitzuno
XLDJ

You can make your own conclusions but in my opinion all of our Congressmen should be actively getting involved in discussions seeing that they cannot actually vote using game mechanics as we have a dictator. Also remember that those who have talked may not have contributed anything meaningful to the PM, also looking through it, it seems everyone who did talk did do something helpful in at least one of their messages.

This is by no means something we will be introducing tomorrow, and it may not ever get introduced. I am trying to get discussion from the public so that Congressmen can hear what the people want, from both sides of the argument. Feel free to say yes, no, or offer suggestions on how to improve what was mentioned above. The more reasoning and explanation you give to anything you say, the more helpful you are. Discuss.
