food import tax from 1% to 8%
harijs.me
I propose we change food import tax from 1% to 8% as it is with weapons. All of you might be producing weapons in your companies, but for someone like me who has a lot of food companies the food market is bad so maybe we should try to keep away foreign food from entering eUK market.
Please comments?.

I voted no because although I raise in import tax makes domestic producers better off I would like to see some opinions on what effects this may have on the domestic consumer - will food prices rise? Who benefits from that?
Also, as the vote has been proposed as the discussion has started it may be that some people want more time to think about it, so once a new speaker has been appointed I am sure we will get the opportunity to discuss and vote again. But good on you for posting an ingame article, more people doing so when they make congress proposals would make things easier 🙂
why then there should be 8% import tax on weapons and not on food? i think the effects should be about the same.
As Q5 food is THE market in terms of efficiency and worldwide health to cost excellence then perhaps you should canvass the sellers in that market http://www.erepublik.com/en/economy/market/29/1/5/citizen/0/price_asc/1
Currently (and for the last week or so) we've only had one foreign chap (romanian) selling stuff there.
well new players dont buy q5 food they go for q1 or q2. so i dont think your point is valid at all.
for maybe a day or two and then they get given Q5 food by NHS, Parties or MU's.
The main reason people produce guns over food is that food is so cheap and plentiful that everyone seems to give it away.
Players buy the cheapest food as rated by cost per hp. That is usually Q4 or Q3 and occassionally Q2 being dumped. Raising import cost wont help in an environment with over production. 7% increase is nothing to a foreign seller from a country with better bonuses. In fact, what is more likely to happen is that Brits will buy off cheaper markets and sell locally. So no protection at all, really.
I'm not entirely sure, Imma hold my vote for a bit.
high taxes just provoke more black market, that is, people selling outside the market.
VAT will stay the same. only import should change.
IF you raise the Import Tax then foreign companies stop selling on the eUK market = less money to gov.
eUK companies then don't get to gouge on prices as the moment they go 0.01 above the worldprice then some eUKer in USoA, Poland or wherever will simply buy up some stock there and dump it on the eUK market.
So the total end effect is mooted.
I agree with harijs.me - we should raise the tax rate just so that he can make a profit....
I voted no because I said I would vote no on any tax proposals that are not discussed beforehand. Actually I do not mind if this stays the same or changes. I don't know if it hurts or helps and I produce enough food that I very rarely need to buy any. And I never build up enough that I have to sell it. So I will continue to vote no until I see some numbers saying that this would help the eUk more than hurt it from someone that doesn't ask me to accept certain assumptions for that math to work.
Rather than raising food taxes to match weapons why not reduce weapon taxes to match food
Economic effect is minimal.
Gov loses ten's of pounds a week if that
UK producers still have to sell at worldprice but might shift stock faster.
It's really a political decision - do you favor protectionism or free markets?
Brother Harijs.me food prices are down most likely because of the ptoers who are influencing the economy drastically.
And you are...?
Prices on most things are down globally you can't blame everything on the PTOers. One of the main reasons are the muppets who produce things and then put them in the market for slightly less than the current price to get a quick sale even if it means they lose money
