Diary of a Congressman - Part II

Day 1,471, 03:41 Published in USA Austria by Penegrin

Dear Readers,

I’m now in Congress for almost a week and I think I get used to it. Yes, I am still lost in the Forum and sometimes can’t find my own topics. But I am getting better and I think that’s the important thing here 😃

We’re in the middle of the election of the new Speaker of the House. Right now it is very close with Eli in the lead by 2 votes but this can change quickly. However both candidates have similar programs and it looks like most Congressmen simply vote for their party so this can be a first test.

The daily work for a Congressman is not that exciting. We have MPPs to decide on and the daily transaction of USD to the CBO (Congressional Budget Office). While these daily transactions might sound dull they are in fact very important and a good sign for a working Congress. If we manage to commit a transaction on every day of our term we have something to be proud about.

So far our activity is good and we managed to cast around 40 votes on every (serious) law proposal.
Sadly some Congressmen don’t bother to vote but of course that could also mean they just think the laws will pass anyways.

But we also have to deal with a rogue Congressman who tries to sell CS and in some cases already did so. If you are approached by any Congressman with such an offer please be assured that this is considered illegal (or at least abusive) and you would do everybody a favour if you contact the soon to be Speaker of the House.

Serving as a Congressman should be all about helping your country and not your purse. This is something we forget too often too soon.
