Congress Update!

Day 1,747, 13:37 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Lord Lewis Cromwell

Hello everyone!

One of my tasks as a Congressman is to keep people in the loop on what is happening at the administrative end of our nation, and so I write this in the hope of detailing briefly what's been happening, discussed and sometimes shouted loudly with an accompiment of flying coffee-cups.

Our President/Prime Minister/Head Honcho
Yes, the future of our departing boss has been heavily discussed recently with regards to his ability as our leader and his conduct in that role. There were allegations of faking logs against players from a specific political party, misconduct and inactivity which sparked a long, awkward debate. Many of our Congress weighed into it thigh-deep and argued the points on the issue, with the result being that there was enough support for an impeachment that it can be put through to vote.

However, with so little time left on his term and such a split between the opinions it looks like BigAnt might be able to dodge this bullet. If only he can keep himself in good stead for now, he might be able to restart his previously good political career with us in the future, no matter how heavily those that dislike him tried to come down. I'm personally a forgiving person so would like to see anyone given a second chance, with the right support BigAnt's job would've been easier and a little advice instead of scrutiny would've definitely kept a young asset with us for the future.

Training
Have you ever wanted to get involved in running our e-nation? Would you know where to start? Well I, among others, have been thinking of ways to get more people involved with the government roles we have and utilise! We will be developing a training program for people to get their first steps in a ministry to learn the ropes and hopefully make friends/establish colleagues along the way.

Here's a brief summary of government ministries in case you didn't know that we even used any:

The Ministry of Defense: Ministers and workers here work to coordinate our Military Units (MU's) damage, resources and the like to make our battles more successful as a nation together. Without which, our MU's would be wild dogs, chasing the rabbit while cows get away and generally embarassing us all.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Our diplomatic corps, the Foreign Affairs (FA) team is responsible for our ambassador assignments, maintaining alliances and Mutual Protection Pacts (MPPs) and generally making us look good as a nation to the other, less fortunate nations around the world who wish they were us.

The Ministry of Finance: In charge of counting our income and expenditure as a nation to assess our viability of upkeeping schemes such as the wonderful NHS and putting forward any tax rate suggestions to get the most out of our economy. If you're into that strange thing called "numbers" and know how to use one of those new-fangled "calculator" devices this might be the Ministry for you"

The Ministry of Home Affairs: The stalwart, hard-working and often completely ignored Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) deals with our population, trying to encourage activity amongst our ever-fluctuating player base and providing ways to make people happy. They conquer planets with laser beams, they once punched a tiger in the face without flinching, Clint Eastwood said "It's the only Ministry that can fire a gun without dropping it" and it deals with a huge burden of administration on a daily basis.

If you're interested in joining any of these right now, head on over to the forums, get involved and upon the next elections in a few days apply for a staff position! Otherwise expect more news in the near future!

I'd also like to add that in Ministry work, like standing in a bouncy castle, if you don't like the position you find yourself in it's very easy to move around so give it a try! Remember Ministries are separate from Congress so anyone can take a job without running in elections.

This is what our Ministries look like, take off your shoes!

Encouraging Responsibility!
Another thing being discussed lately, especially being pushed for by myself, is to make Congress more active in general and given more roles of responsibility in our government since we have a relatively low population. Many different ideas have been thrown about, including making Head of Ministry positions restricted to elected players in Congress, the above training scheme being mandatory for Congress amongst many others. We do have a rather active Congress this term, though, and debate still continues!

Activity!
Lastly I'd like to finish on a note just to praise those Congress members who have shown that they are active and doing a good job in their roles whether experienced or new. There haven't been many in-game proposals yet this term, but they have been heavily involved in taking part, mostly in trying to find ways to make our nation stronger!

The following strike my eye in particular so a personal good job to:
Ayame Crocodile
Bob Ballaway
BoerCharel
Daemon Blackfyre
Dr Hugh Jardon
Klurr
Mr Knee
Niemand
Scott Parsons
WayneKerr

And the following completely ruined any faith we had in them by disregarding procedure then quitting Congress early:
Angela Williams

Boo, hiss, boo! That's all for now! Let's look forward to a nice new CP term this week and see where things take us (hopefully onwards and forever upwards!)

Seeya everyone
