[WTP] Means of Communication

Day 2,464, 19:51 Published in USA USA by MrCarey

It feels good to be pumping out articles on a regular basis. It’s something I didn’t really have the drive for back in my earlier eLife. Now that I’m part of the We The People Media department, I’m more ambitious when it comes to article writing. The great feedback from the readers helps as well!

So let’s get into this article! This is going to be somewhat of a continuation to the previous article: Efficiency in Leadership and Communication. I’m going to focus on the communication aspect though and not so much the leadership parts. I’m going to cover the different main types of communication used in eRepublik, how the different types are used, and why each one is important. Three main ‘avenues’ for communication between people in eRepublik are: in-game messaging (PM), IRC (chat), and the forums (I’ll be covering the eusaForums).

First, let’s talk about in-game PMs. This is a great tool that sometimes I feel is under-utilized, but other times is greatly utilized. The best part about this means of communication is that it’s right in the game client and it’s obvious when you have a new message.

It’s Like Christmas Morning!

WTP uses the in-game messaging to create ‘threads’ among leadership individuals or among different departments. For example, sometimes when the media department is assigned tasks, eChesty will send a PM with all us media monkeys in it so that we can converse and all be on the same page and not have to wonder what this person said to that person, or missing a part of the communication because someone wasn’t online at the time.

This is also great for getting announcements out as well. With mass mailing programs, PPs are able to pump out important announcements to all the party members in an efficient manner. If you’re playing this game there’s a good chance that sometime within 24 hours you are going to log into the game client to work and train, which means you’ll definitely know you have a new message, therefore you won’t be missing out on important announcements.

Sometimes though, you need results, and you need them now. For this kind of communication, IRC is great. It’s basically a chat room. There is certainly nothing fancy about it, but it’s a useful and excellent tool. An easy way to get into the IRC action is to go to Rizon.net and just sign in. No downloads needed or anything, you can run it right through your browser. While you’re there just type in /join #wtp and you’ll be in the party channel for We The People, if you’re in the USAF, you can type /join #USAF and you’ll be in the channel for the MU. There are a bunch of other chat rooms to discover as well. Pretty much every party and MU has their own IRC channel - usually it’s their abbreviation.

Finally, the forums. The forums are a great place to go for discussion on various topics and they contain a wealth of information as well. At the moment, some of the information is out of date due to the blunder which occurred a couple months ago. However, leadership from various organizations have been working to get all the information updated again. Besides the information that can be found on the forums, they are also used for discussion on some of the following: party policies, new ideas for organisations, general party information/discussion, and even general non-eRepublic discussion on various topics.

As you can see, there are various ways to get involved in eRepublik with your fellow countrymen (and women) through different means of communication. As I stressed in the previous article, communication is key to success - not just personal success, but the success of political parties and even the country. For that success to come in a timely manner, that communication must also be efficient. Through these three different venues of communication, that efficiency is running at peak - we just need to use those venues in an efficient manner. As a continuing member, and now deputy of the Media Team for We The People, I will be striving to pump out articles (which are also a great avenue of communication) regularly and working with the retention team to help keep communication flowing between members because I believe communication is also key to activity and participation. Without efficient communication, people can get discouraged and feel they are wasting their time because they aren’t getting the results they desire. So remember people - keep that communication strong!
