Yesterday at 20:12, President ThomasRED held a citizen chat on #OpenDoorWithThePresident @irc.rizon.net. Questions could be sent in a private message to DanielB1989, the moderator. Voice was handed out to the person who asked a question, so that he could discuss with the President until he was satisfied with the answer. These were the highlights:

For more than 10 days now, the president talks with friends and allies on forming a new alliance with the core and the spirit of PEACE. In order not to endanger its conception, he cannot tell the names of the countries. But he assures us of his commitment to have an independent UNL in a strong alliance. When Congress voted on PEACE, it was clear that a rejection of the new charter was coupled with leaving PEACE. We didn't announce immediately that we left, because the debate on the PEACE forums, with many emeritus citizens from UNL participating, was still raging. But an official resignation article will be published soon. The president recognises that the situation was indeed not very well managed, he deplores the lack of transparency in the vote. Other countries had the same issues.

On the situation with the Romanian-occupied regions, a two-way political and military approach is ongoing. Despite some setbacks, we should not give up on the possibility of a political solution. Time is on our side since their interest could be wearing out. There are talks with the Romanian president of the occupied regions, who already offered to accept a Belgian president in exchange for peace and cooperation. Militarily, we have talks with some of our allies about an open war with Belgium.

Even if a training war is ongoing, a more regular schedule is currently being negotiated. The recent cost increase of MPP's to 100 gold is an issue.

The post of Minister of Defence is vacant since AndreasIsaksson resigned. The generals are in charge now. The Prime Minister will propose a solution for the Government to decide at today's government meeting.

The army is well-organised for a rapid reaction to events, but the president agrees that alert systems and citizen organisation could improve even further; he asks all citizens to share ideas about it on the national forum.

About the emotional reaction given by the president on an article that made him feel accused as a traitor, he now says that he reacted as a human, maybe without taking enough time to think. He emphasises his neutrality and that he's the president of all UNL citizens.

The economic situation is difficult in UNL, but the whole New World suffers from this. Since we lack a variation of raw materials, we are hit harder. For specifics on inflation, purchasing power and export position in the UNL, the President refers to the Minister of Finance.

Why was the chat scheduled at 20:12 ? The reply: its good to keep some secrets ;p

Only about 15 citizens were present, but the overall reactions were positive. Responding on a perceived lack of interaction, the President made clear that anyone could ask voice to the moderator. The novel voice system, the contrast with a (slower) forum discussion and the likelihood of repeating this were discussed in the bar after the formal meeting.

A complete log is available on request for interested citizens.
