[Libertas/DRP] Party President Election

Day 2,459, 11:40 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by lancer450

Good day fellow Libertas/DRP members,

As most of you may already know, the Party President Election is tomorrow on the 15th of August. Our party, like the rest of the parties in the eNetherlands, will be heading to the polls so we can elect our new Party President (PP) for the month. Here at Libertas/DRP, we current have four candidates standing for election to become PP. And so, today, I am officially announcing my intention to run and what my plans are for the party for this next term.

Firstly, I would like to talk about the merger between both Libertas and DRP. These plans have been in the works for a good period of time over the past month. At first, myself, Cody Caine, NoTie112, and GEN. DE LA REY discussed the proposal with one another because we all saw the opportunity and potential benefits of working and coming together so as to be able to expand the influence of each of our parties’ members. We each also recognised the fact that the eNetherlands simply had too many parties for a country with such a small population. It was agreed then that we would bring the proposal back to our members at DRP and see what they thought about the merger. After bringing the proposal to our members back at DRP, it was accepted and further discussions began to take place. And just a couple of days ago, it was announced that the merger was to begin and soon enough members from the DRP started moving to the new party as was agreed upon by both sides.

Together, we have managed to grow to a total of 41 members (as I am writing this article) and we are, solidly, in the second place position nationally. Thus, the merger seems to be going very well at the minute. Though there is still a lot to be done and that is why I have decided to run to continue as Party President for this next month.

There are three significant things that need to be taken care of just after the election on the 15th.
1. A new name needs to be chosen by the members of our party. A list of names has already been gathered by myself in discussions with several members of the party. Just yesterday I sent out messages with this list of names to all of the members of Libertas/DRP for them to select their most preferred name. 24 hours from now, I hope to have the results from that vote and, hopefully, our party will have a new identity by then!
2. Our party needs a new logo. I would prefer to have a new logo for our party immediately after the PP election or very soon afterward. Identifying with one’s party is very important, in my opinion. So, I will be asking for any ideas from the party on what they may want to see in the new logo and I will be contacting some players I know that have decent knowledge of Photoshop, MS paint, etc. to help in the process.
3. We need a platform of key ideas and principles that our party stands for. This is what some would consider the “boring” part of the job but I believe it to be necessary. After all, what good is a political party if it has no vision? I, personally, would like to have a meeting on IRC for everyone to get together and to discuss important issues in the eNetherlands and come to a general agreement on what sort of positions our party supports. I understand that many do not like IRC and so I would also consider attempting to use the in-game message system if it means there is going to be more participation from party members.

There are certainly some other things that need to be done over this coming month as well.

Ten days after the PP election, we will have our first congressional election as a single party. With many more members, it is very likely that there will indeed be more members looking to have the opportunity to serve in the Congress. It is the job of the Party President to edit the congress ballots before each election and to decide which position to place members in. Of course, the higher up on the list a player is (positions 1 through 6) means that they have a much higher chance of being elected while those who are lower down on the ballot (7+) have a much lower chance. Because of this fact, I believe it is only fair that those players with an acceptable level of activity be given preference over others. I am sure most would agree that they would prefer to have an efficient and active government and so that is why it is necessary that activity be such an important criterion in placing congress candidates.

One of the last things I would like to work on is making better use of the party cabinet positions and having things for party cabinet members to do. It may be known that I have had trouble with this in the past as I tend to like to monopolise responsibility and so learning to delegate tasks is something that I believe I am going to have to work on for this month.

Together, I am sure we can accomplish all of these things and more. New name. New image. New ideas. A new party.

Please vote for me, lancer450, in tomorrow’s Party President Election for Libertas/DRP!

Regards,

Libertas/DRP Party President
