[IA] Enbarosment

Day 1,923, 06:28 Published in South Africa South Africa by Miyagiyoda

You are owed nothing

Earlier today IA had a defection that has touched many in South Africa personally.

Enbaros approached me asking for a guaranteed position on the IA Congress lists. Under the old paradigm I may have entertained this. Previously candidates were chosen by the part president based upon their past record of service with the Party President, how well they knew the Party President and who the Party President trusted. That is a little too much Party President for my liking. It can easily mistaken for nepotism. It is not the correct path to the promised land.

This is a democracy.
The IA is a democracy.
Our core values scream democracy.

It is time our practices reflect our values. Every single member of the IA has a fair chance to represent the party and an equal voice. I have instituted a vote for the IA's Congress list. Every member gets a number of votes based upon the expected number of seats we will get, and the result is used to determine the list order. My name is also on that list, and my chances are exactly the same as everyone else's. As party president, I have reserved the right to break ties, but will otherwise submit the list as is.

Enbaros had a dispute with me. He felt his past service and long record in the eSAAF ought to guarantee him a place. He deserved it. I refused to guarantee him a congress seat based upon his immaculate past service. Everyone has to keep earning their stripes, or they fade. You can only rest on your laurels so long before they wilt and become a fire hazard.

Democracy and equality will prevail in the Independent Alternative.

I regret that he has taken this matter so personally and resigned from the IA. His choice to abandon old friends and the extreme reaction to embrace a clear and present danger to our society in the pursuit of power and status is regrettable. So would say puerile. I do regret some of the heated language of our conversation, but not the core principles I was defending.

I wish it were not so, but what is, is.

No one person is bigger than the Independent Alternative.

We show up for work.
We value pragmatism over ideology every single day of the week.
We have winning smiles.

Vote for the Independent Alternative
- people driven policy that will change your life.

Remember how we got here. Pass it forward.
