Run For Congress

It's that time of month again Feds, Congress elections are upon us!

“What is congress?” you ask. “Why should I care what those Congress Kritters are up to?”

Well take a seat for while we drops some knowledge on you.

Congress is where members of the top five parties gather to discuss issues relevant to the eUnited States via the eUS forums. From budget talks, to potential policy changes and alliance formations , they also discuss ways to improve the nation! Congress is where the big and important stuff happens.
If you think that sound particularly interesting you also have the options of having a good month in congress shows dedication to your country and the ideals of your party, a commitment to being active in the meta game, and a willingness to work with others to further the advancement of the country and make things run smoothly for the rest of our citizens. Besides getting involved in party jobs, there is no better way to show that you are willing and capable to work towards accomplishing great things in this game, and it's a way to break into national politics if you have higher aspirations than just party-related work.

There are really three main requirements to being successful in a congressional seat.
First, our Feds have to be prepared to thoroughly read all threads in the congress forums that are relevant to their term (or, sometimes, things that have been carried over from the previous term). Second it also requires being particularly active in the meta game. Congress people need to be prepared to check the forums at least daily, preferably several times a day to make sure all sides are considered in discussions and that they are well informed.
Third, all members of congress need to be prepared to ask for help if an issue comes up they either don't understand or aren't entirely familiar with. You can find that information here.

The Federalist Party is one that is very dedicated to the success of its members, and we are all more of a big family than anything else. If someone is confused or hasn't dealt with a certain set of issues in game before, as long as they are willing to ask for help, anyone able will jump in to do all they can to make sure that person accomplishes what they set out to.  One of our famous mottos is Country>Party>Self.

Congress is a somewhat under-appreciated but very important aspect of the game. Make sure the Feds are properly represented by voting for The Federalist Party on the 25th, and just maybe this month will be about the Feds. Why you ask?

Well that was an exciting Federalist Party Presidential Primary and I gotta say it is never fun to see a friend lose by 1 vote but it happens. Although both candidates were qualified it was a toss up that's for sure. We all knew it would be a tough race once Evil_Elvis came into the picture but in the end it still a nail biter.
It was a nice breathe of fresh air. One thing I do have to say about the Federalist party is that even after such a tough battle the candidate whom didn't win is still willing to do all he can for the party.
One thing most people outside the party don't know about the Federalist party is that we are a close eFamily and we don't always agree but we always keep the simplest mindset even in the worst of times …..

Country > Party > Self


Less than 24 hours after the final votes were counted I managed to get Apollo221 alone in a private IRC channel and ask him some questions about himself, the party and even the possible future next month.
Before we start with the interview lets take a quick look at the man who was our Party President for the last month …

I have done every single job in The Federalist Party. I can now say I have even been Party President. That to me is such an enormous deal. My number one goal since I first logged into eRepublik was to be Party President. Of course, Party President is not my only accomplishment. As Political Director I had the pleasure of overseeing one of the most active congress we have ever seen. I also contributed with Jefferson Locke and many others to help Molly Emma become President of the United States twice. I stepped into Media when it was needed in the Director's absence, along with many other positions such as FedEx, recruitment, and even contributed to the Fun Department. Even within SHIELD I have become Quartermaster General with some of the best QM’s around. I was also Captain of the Hammer regiment. I feel that I have worked very hard for this Party, and I thank everyone who supported me through my eCareer.

: 1) If there was anything you could change about your campaign what would you have done?

: My cabinet did a great job, so there is nothing about that I wish I could change. If I had to choose something, it would be the congress list. A lot of our members that were to be on the list were kicked off, because of this we had several inexperienced congressman. Which led to one of our congressman being censured.


: 2) The biggest question that have people wondering can we expect to see you running next month? or do you want more time to decide that?

: Well, I can say that I will not be running next month as I have hopes of seeing other people in the position. Maybe farther down the line, but not anytime soon.


: 3) Who do you see as up and comers that could potentially be successful running next month?

: Well, I can't put anybody on the spot. However, there is one person that I have been working on getting in the Party President position for some time. Oh screw it. I would like to see WookyJack in the position. If he runs the Feds half as well as he does SHIELD... Lets just say he will do amazing at the job.


: 4) Why do you believe WookyJack would make a good candidate?

: He is a great CO, and even though I have never been in the position, I can only imagine the things he has to go through even on a day to day bases. He would do a great job as Party President and I would support him all the way if he decided to do so.


: 5) Any suggestions to anyone looking to become the Feds Party President in the future?

: I hate using myself as an example but here we go. I did every position within the Federalist Party, and I urge members to take on positions such as the Fun Department, and Recruitment, and even FedEX. All are essential to the party running and working in a Fed Jerb is the only way to become President.

: Hard work is the only way to move up to a hard position.


: 6) What should we expect from you in the coming future?

: Well for now, I have decided to take a break from Party Jobs. I will still be around and if anyone wants to contact me about anything, please do so.

Hey Feds!

Thanks to all who voted this month. Whether it was for me or not, it made me all Proud & Horny to see such a great turnout this month. And special thanks to Apollo for running such an exciting campaign...my heart is still pounding 🙂

My goals this month are simple:

- To build us an atmosphere in The Feds that we can all be proud of. I want to see us return to our roots...where hard work pays off, and mistakes are instantly forgiven by virtue of being a Fed. Not that a Fed is or should be above the rules, but we should never hang one of our own out to dry afterwards. The Feds have always prided ourselves on the fact that, no matter what differences of opinion we may have privately, we never let that spill over into public. We've lost some of that lately, and I'm man enough to admit that I let myself fall into that same trap a time or two. The trick now is to let that be a thing of the past, and to all move forward together.

- To greatly improve the Help & Tutorials section of the Fed forums. We've always been a newb-centric party, we love them. We do a great job of reaching out to them, and making them feel welcome. I think the only thing we're lacking in that regard is an area where they can get clear, concise answers to any questions they have. Looking back to when I was newb, I didn't always like asking questions, for fear that the person I was asking was sick of answering it. I never actually got that response from anyone, but it could be a valid reason why a newFriend could get discouraged. We need a FAQ so they can easily find those answers by themselves, and then spend their energy becoming new, productive members of the meta.

- To build a bridge between oldfags and the amazing group of next generation leadership we have moving through the ranks now. It's an exciting place we're in right now, with so many people bursting with potential....but we need to make sure that our customs, the things that make us Feds, are passed on to them. And more importantly, we need to teach them our history, so they don't unnecessarily make the same mistakes that we did. That's why I want to make it a priority this month to start a Fed Library, a place where oldfags can go & fascinate the youngsters with stories about "back in my day..."

- To continue the great programs that we have going on, and give them whatever support they need. I've always felt that a good PP gives his Directors clear goals, makes sure they have everything they need to accomplish them, and then lets them shine. Whether it be deputies, money, or just someone to bounce ideas off of...if you need anything whatsoever, I'm here to make it happen.

- To send a strong Fed caucus to Congress. Last month was a bit of a disaster. A lot of that had to do with Plato's last-minute tinkering, but it was also due to a lack of qualified candidates. This month, it's only the 18th, and we already have a very strong crop of people who have announced their candidacy. Between us and a couple spots that I'm working on filling with quality 6th-party members, I think we're looking incredibly strong this month.

- To not F up.

Basicly it all started about 2-3 months ago. Mart Klaar is my IRL friend and had started to sit behind his computer a lot and doing stuff more than usual. So I was intrigued - what he was doing there?... I saw a funny looking page and some IRC stuff going on.  So I asked about how it works. Mart is the kind of guy who explains things very well. So i got to know erep pretty well in the following months, I saw the good and some of the nasty as well.

We talked some about me joining erep, but I didn't feel up for it. But on Jul 02, 2014 I made my account. Followed Mart's instructions not to fight and to join the eUSA, Federalist party and Shield. Well I joined the USAF at first, because I'm stubborn like that.🙂

USAF was nice especially for beginners.  I went through flightraining there and then it was time to move on, but as it was not clear to me as to what part of USAF I was to transfer or apply I finally followed Mart's advice and joined SHIELD.

I recieved a warm welcome in IRC and on the forums. I started following instructions to be accepted in the HAMMER program (everything is well explained and there was no confusion about what i needed to do). I not very patient so the wait on joining Hammer made me wonder if I was in right place, but I was assured from several people that all was well and things would be handeled.

Oh boy, was I happy when I was finally accepted to Hammer.  I started working on objectives for and having a blast in IRC (special thanks to Cuppycakeyums), We also have epic uniforms! (Thanks to the graphics guys) There is a lot of nice people in Shield and Feds. So I'm very happy that I joined them both. I already found  a job in Shield and have something to do while I strength train, to be useful in wars eventually 😛

So if you are new player that just started or old one who came back join us here, it is the place to be!

I've been head down the past week or so as crashthompson has handed off the job of HAMMER Director to me. I needed time to learn the ropes as well as get some things caught up for my HAMMERs.

It may sound funny to call them MY HAMMERs, but that is how I feel about it. It's such a strong feeling that what started out as a joke, me being Queen of the HAMMERs, has actually kinda taken hold. It's a great feeling to have such a hard working group of people support and respect you.

And as busy as I have been, I think it's important to say thank you and recognize some of my hardest working HAMMERs.

Kevin Sheridan and Leo.TheDamager are Assistant Directors of HAMMER. They help me track the progress of our HAMMER trainees and process the applications, War College exam and personal interviews - all while doing their own HAMMER training and education.

PowerPack is a relatively new player, but she has hit the ground running both for the Feds and SHIELD (kinda reminds me of someone else I use to know). That is why I made her War College Assistant Director. She was on a personal mission to share information and improve the knowledge base even before she had the job.

Without these three, I wouldn't be able to do the job I do for HAMMER. I try and tell them all very regularly how much I appreciate their hard work. But today I wanted to tell all of you as well.

I'll never forget how I got here. It's because of hard working staffers like these, as well a entire group of hard working HAMMERs.

My name is Kevin Sheridan, a newly born Shield agent and a proud member of the Hammer program.

In a nutshell, Hammer is a strength training program for new players, designed to nurture the next generation of Shield agents, but you all already know that, so I prefer talking about what it means to me.

I see Hammer as a gateway, a gateway to Shield, to the Federalist Party and to Erep as a whole. Erepublik isn't very friendly to newbies, as the doors to the massive meta-game are easily missed by an untrained eye.

My previous flirt with Erepublik, some 3-4 years ago ended just like that, mistakenly judging the game to be a somewhat empty shell.
What went differently this time? A recruiting PM from Shield, which quickly exposed me to Hammer. The program doesn't only teach you the basics of the war module and help you climb its slippery ladder faster. Rather, through its clever design, diligent staff and the supporting FED community, it helps you getting immersed in the game itself. One month into the program, I've already experienced recruiting, fundraising, quarter-mastering and more. Moreover, I'm already an assistant director at Hammer, working under the ever tireless BamaBettie, while also contributing to the Federalist Party by helping out in recruiting and distributing NFLB supplies.
Hammer offers much for those who are wanting and willing and I feel very privileged for having found my way to it. I'm sure it's the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
