What does Share of Market mean?

The percentage of an industry or market's total sales that is earned by a particular company over a specified time period. Market share is calculated by taking the company's sales over the period and dividing it by the total sales of the industry over the same period. This metric is used to give a general idea of the size of a company to its market and its competitors.

Although market share is probably the single most important marketing metric, there is no generally acknowledged best method for calculating it. This is unfortunate, as different methods may yield not only different computations of market share at a given moment, but also widely divergent trends over time.

Unfortunately, and for now, in eRepublik we can't estimate total sales, but we can estimate total available products for sell, and we can see the marketplace trend over time, not for a company, but for a national market.

I prepared for this type of article, data from two of the best economic powers in eRepublik, different alliances, China for EDEN and Serbia for ONE. For the next article i'll make top rankings with all countries.
