[DoF] The New Economy

Day 3,141, 21:53 Published in Australia Australia by Reserve Bank of Australia

G'day Aussie Battlers,

The staff have now outlined most of the upcoming changes in a forum post, and answered most of the questions about the announcement. Changes will go live on day 3145. Here's a brief overview of the most important changes, and my recommendations for why you should probably do nothing on day 3145.

A new addition will be holding companies. In order to use one of the companies you own now; a factory, farm, or mine, you must place it into a holding company.

Holding companies must be placed in a region, and can't be moved, sold or demolished, although factories, mines and farms can be moved between holding companies for a fee calculated by (4% company value) + (1% of value for each 1000 km travelled), capped at 20% of the company value.

At least initially, you can hire employees and collect work tickets from any country you have a holding company in, and use them for any of your companies. To work as manager you do need to be located in the same region as your holding company.

The reason I recommend to wait to place your first holding company is because while the first one is free, the second costs 25 gold, the third 50 gold, and so on. So hastily making a decision you can't undo can become very expensive very quickly, and what looks like a good placement at first may not turn out to be the best placement after even a day or two, because we still know very little about how pollution will be calculated, which is an important part of the productivity formula.

The productivity formula is as follows:

Productivity Bonus = Country Productivity Bonus + Region Productivity Bonus + Player Booster - Region Pollution Factor

The Player Booster is attained only by buying the Tycoon Pack.

Our Country Productivity Bonus is 75% Food, 35% Weapons, and 50% Housing.

The Region Productivity Bonus is calculated by dividing the resource bonuses held in a region by 5, so an extra 15% Food for Tasmania, an extra 7% Weapons for South Australia, and an extra 10% Housing for Western Australia.

Before Pollution or Tycoon Packs are taken into account, the Bonuses for most regions will be thus:

Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria will just have the country bonus of 75% Food, 35% Weapons, and 50% Housing.

Tasmania will have a 90% Bonus in Food, and the country bonus in other industries.

South Australia will have a 42% Bonus in Weapons, and the country bonus in other industries.

Western Australia will have a 60% Bonus in Housing, and the country bonus in other industries.

The Pollution Factor varies between 0% and 25%, and is calculated by comparing the works done in a particular industry in that region with the global average. Pollution from one industry won't affect other industries.

Currently this is all we know, as staff have decided to keep the formula secret, although within a few days of the changes going live we should have a good idea, which is why the best strategy for most company owners will be to wait at least a couple of days before they place their first holding company.

If pollution is heavily weighed and capped, rather than done by ratio, then our high bonus regions could end up with potentially less productivity than our empty regions due to the numbers of holding companies placed in them.

However if pollution is weighed less heavily or done by ratio, then with our small population and moderate bonuses may only lead to pollution of a few percent, meaning companies would be better off in the highest bonus regions.

I hope to have more answers on this by day 3146-7.

For Wars and Embargoes, some details seem clear, some are sketchy. Here are some things staff have sai😛

25/06 - "When the Country of citizenship of the manager is in direct war with the Country where the Holding is located, the manager cannot work in the factories of that Holding."

05/05 - "If the Company is in a Region (historical or under occupation) of a country that has an open War with your Citizenship Country, your productivity as manager will drop."

05/05 - "The productivity of an employee whose citizenship country has an open war with the country of citizenship of the owner of the company will be affected, and the salary received will be based on that productivity."

03/05 - "Please keep in mind companies will be subject to trade embargos once again."

20/04 - "Region specific taxes will follow enabling a higher taxation of occupied territories as spoils of war."

As later statements may contradict earlier ones, as seen with the first two, and more changes or details may appear from nowhere, the short of it is: don't place a holding company in a country you may be at war with in future. At any rate, for work as manager you need to be located in the same region as your holding company, so locating companies in other countries is really only economical for companies primarily worked by employees, such as housing companies, and high end factories in other industries.

The eAustralian Productivity Commission will start in the next couple of days. If you're interested in participating in this abacus toting group message, then please comment below or send me a message.

I'm interested in hearing from any eAustralian citizen; past MoFs, senators, economists, business owners, consumers, employees, MU commanders with or without supply communes, soldiers, etc.

eAusProdCom will consider all aspects of the changes; what we have, and what we need to thrive, whether it be tax rates, combining bonuses with neighbours via rentals, or loans and stimulus.

I will summarise all the points raised by eAusProdCom into an article, which will also hopefully form a somewhat consensus derived recommendation to the Senate on the best courses of action.
