[BPD] Presidential Apology

Day 993, 15:31 Published in Austria Austria by BundesPresseDienst

In the past few days, there has been a surge of cheating and foul play in eRepublik across the world, but particularly centering around the nation of Hungary, which saw its President hacked, money stolen, and territories conquered in quick succession. While I have my concerns for some of Hungary’s policies in game, their help for Austria in recent months has been undeniable, and they earned my sympathy both for the dire situation they found themselves in, and the illegal circumstances which brought them to it.

I had talked to their President, Ipath, several times before on good terms, and so when I was contacted by him asking for help last night, I was open to the possibility. He explained that they were looking for help from neighbours in the form of both troops and a loan for funding. Nothing struck me as immediately suspicious as his username was the correct one, and his writing style was similar to earlier. I talked to cabinet members who were on at the time, and we agreed that Hungary’s situation would warrant help due to the help they had given us before.

Shortly after transferring the money, I began to get suspicious that this was not an honest transaction, and that our good will had been taken advantage of. Lo and behold, my fears were later confirmed with further information - someone else was using his IRC account. We were not the only nation to fall prey to this scheme. The Bulgarian President, also eager to help Hungary, launched a battle against Romania believing it to be part of the plan to help Hungary. Instead, they have opened up many MPP’s against their nation and are in grave danger of being wiped off the map.

The situation in Austria is nowhere near as serious as this, as we have only lost gold from our reserves. But this does not excuse the oversight that occurred, which allowed Austria to be exploited - by the very same exploiters who attacked Hungary. As President, I take total responsibility for this mistake, and apologize sincerely for the loss of this gold. I will do my best to undo this damage, and multiple tickets have already been sent in describing the situation to the admins. I will also do my best to put procedures in place to ensure that the good will of Austria is never taken advantage of in this way again.
