What being with someone really means

Related to Raposas' love story, here's my general relationship advice.

Never confuse being in love with someone and being in a relationship with them. Those are 2 different things.

Granted that you can have both at the same time, but it's a non sequitur. It does not follow.

Being in love with someone is easier than being in a relationship with someone.
Being in love usually means you get to only adore the good side of the other person. You get to worship them and put them up a pedestal.

Being in a relationship means you have to be patient and understanding when the bad side comes out. You have to actively put your own needs behind the other person's when their needs exceed yours. It also means that when the time comes that you're the one who needs help, you're willing to receive it from the other person.

You can totally love someone but not be willing to have a relationship with them because you would not want to ruin their image on you.

Relationships are streets.
Healthy ones go both ways, and dysfunctional ones have some defect in one way or the other (giving or taking).

It's also a lot of work! For both sides!
