Welcome to DBC News

Day 968, 20:57 Published in Greece Greece by Dodona

Good morning Hellas...

This is the first issue of my newspaper, so I would like to welcome all readers. I hope you'll like it and stick around, but even if you don't, it's all good.
Why did I create this Paper? Well I had a couple gold sitting there doing nothing, so I thought: what the heck, I've been a citizen of the New World for nearly 3 months now, how about I try something new? And the DBC World is born.
What should my readers expect? Short answer: not much really. But you never know...

I've been following the Greek Press closely for a while now and I've come to a few observations. One of those is that we don't have enough international news on our Press. Sure the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has started utilizing Ambassadors and publishes their reports; that's a very good initiative of them. There are also some articles here and there about international events, but I don't feel that's enough. That's my opinion at the moment anyways. I could be wrong so don't shoot me if you disagree.

As a side effect of that, I often feel that as a nation we live on our own microcosm. We argue a lot or even fight about things that we decide to be important. Things which we often observe from limited angles. In reality they may not be so important and we may be missing the whole picture. Who cares? We're not a team here, we are several teams facing each other so we have to argue a lot and fight often... So as not to be misunderstood, I'm not saying that arguing and debating is bad. On the contrary, it's actually very healthy, as long as it's being done in good faith.

Anyways, I don't want to get carried away here. I'll just say that, in order to assess the internal situation properly, it is important to have an understanding of what's happening globally. Is this Newspaper going to serve this task? To a limited extend I do hope so. It may be very limited though, so consider yourselves warned.

Which finally brings us to today's Report: Minimum wage.
We have been fighting over this a lot since v2 entered our lives. Was/Is it worth it?
Let's see how the rest of the world has approached minimum wage in v2. I have looked at the top 27 countries by rank.

- Italy: 0.25 (dropped from 2 to 1 to 0.5 to 0.25). The highest MW. Looks like a big fat outlier, but these guys have a relatively weak currency, so after you adjust for it their MW is worth less than the Spanish one.
- Spain: 0.17 (plus they unanimously rejected proposal for 0.1). Their currency is one of the most expensive and they have the highest MW after Italy. They have the highest MW in gold equivalent (0.00476. Only Spain, Italy and Greece have above 0.003)
- Serbia: 0.13
- Indonesia: 0.12 - converted directly from v1 to v2
- All others: 0.1

Most countries have not touched the MW after it was converted to v2. I mean not even a proposal to change it. A couple countries with MW above 1 in v1 changed it to 1 at the first day of v2 and did nothing afterwards. 3 parliaments rejected proposals to increase it from 0.1 to 0.11, 0.2 and 0.5 respectively.

Most countries with 0.1 MW have cheaper currencies than GRD. Which begs the question: Do we really need MW above 0.15? Or it is actually a lower one that we need? Is the trio Mediterraneo the smart ones and the rest of the world stupid? I will let you think about it. If you want my opinion, leave the freaken MW where it is and start using your braincells on more important things. We've wasted enough time on this already.

From all of us here at the DBC Network, thank you for reading and have a nice day!

PS: I am fluent in Greek and greeklish, so feel free to commend in the language of your liking.
