The Living, the Dead, the Internet

Introduction

It struck me as I was walking the dog that the saying "nothing is immortal" is complete bollucks. I know that the following may bring tears to eyes halting the process of reading but please bear with me.

The Living

The Living consists of the surviving (see my third article The Meaning of Life). For example Gordon Brown, Kermit the Frog, me and you. We breath, we eat, we drink and we die. This process of dying is what defines us as living i.e. the living are those that die i.e. mortals. For this subsection of being the phrase "nothing is immortal" applies.

The Dead

The Dead are quite simply those that have lived and died. That is Aristotle, Plato and Archimedes. The Dead make up the majority of the people on earth, although most of the are long rotten away as compost. It's strange how we hold particular reverence to the Dead, as they are gone aren't they? But maybe infact they are not. The Dead who are not mortal since they have already passed the boundaries of mortality are excemt from the term "nothing is immortal".

The Internet

What the bloody hell is the Internet? It is neither dead nor alive thus being non-alive it cannot die. And since it is not dead it cannot live. Does this make it immortal? Well maybe. Since the Dead do not die, they are immortal, then if the Internet does not die, as such then it too is immortal.

Conclusion

It is a curious thing, the phrase Nothing is Immortal, as the Dead will not die and neither will abiotic "things". The above is just one example of how the borders of our definitions can be stretched, making all we know seem wrong.
