Quick Work Tax announcement
Janty F
Greeting, citizens of Netherlands,
looking at the Finance Sheet and its graphs (which allow us to track our economy trends in better way), I have noticed a positive phenomenon, which I would like to share with you
🙂.
On Day 4,091, I have initiated a law to lower our Work Tax from 4% to 3% (making us leave the exclusive club of high tax-users like North Korea). At the time, it was a controversial move, with several "economy experts" claiming that it will severely damage our economy without bringing any benefit whatsoever. Well, when I looked today at trends of our tax income, I have noticed this:
Follow the green line of tax income - not only the economy did not collapse, but we managed to quickly return our income back to pre-tax-lowered level. Certainly more quickly that I originally expected, as it only took couple of months instead of couple of years those "economy experts" predicted (not even mentioning the fact no program had to be cut or stripped down to save more money). And now we are at the same point, where we were last time we have decided to lower Work Tax. With the recent government having the biggest budget ever (as announced by Ministry of Finances), with future governments expecting even slightly bigger budgets to come (to the point we might even reach the holy budget of one million currency per month), and with President leading the agenda of returning taxes back to players, I believe we need to ask the question we have asked around Day 4,091:
While as Minister of Finances I am always skeptical to any income reductions, and I originally announced my skepticism in Congress to such a move, after reviewing the data better, I believe that from now on, we are ready to lower the Work Tax again at any time. Especially, if our budgets will keep having surplus, and there will be no other way to spend the currency on helping our active citizens.

Just set it to 1 %, without CO you don't need that much income 😉
Wait, are you saying that it recovered because of the "Laffer curve" effect? (Which I believe was your main "argument" for it).
Without having dug deep in the data, I believe the main factor here is inflation in average salaries.
For me, the important questions are two:
1) Do we expect the increase in average salary (the other factor in the WaM tax calculation) to compensate for this decrease in the medium run? That is, do we expect the average salary to be high enough in the next months so that our income is not reduced?
2) Is inflation in the money market (packs, cc/gold conversion) not correlated with inflation in the product market (food/weapons)? If those are correlated (which probably are since the increase in salaries is going together with the increase in weapon prices and house prices, not sure about food) we should take into account that programs will need to be increased since they are in a nominal basis.
I appreciate the effort because collecting data on the income is more than I will do and I understand that doing a solid economic assessment requires a big time investment, but the economic argument presented here is very weak.
Agreed.
Do not put words and conclusion to my mouth next time, before making statement about "very weak arguments" 😉 . I remember very vividly, how many people were against the tax change, because they believed we will not be able to recover to pre-tax-change levels, disregarding curve you mention (but I do not mention in this article at all - even though with new government pogram, it might come into play soon), inflation, and other factors.
Either way, true, inflation helped to recover more money, but as you know from Congress and Finance Sheet, our budget relies less and less on effect of inflation, or on the effect of work tax itself. Plus, not all of the growth in work tax income was caused by inflation alone, we also managed to capture a few holding holders to tax them 😛 .
I also dispute claim about products market (which you base on entirely wrong facts) - in fact, weapons and food are both actually now cheaper than they were during last tax change (I have data recorded for that, weapons cost 100 cc, and food 0,16 cc per energy unit when we changed tax. Today, the prices are bit lower). So the only program needed to be increased solely due to inflation is housing one, and that one already is on such a level of spending, that we are looking for ways, how to maximize the potential of investments there without increasing the investments (as we do not want housing subsidies to become majority of our budget spendings). All other inceases in programs are motivated solely due to the fact government needs to spend money - and not because evil inflation made tanks much expensive to buy.
I know you oppose the lowering of Work Tax, you did that last time as well - but please, do not judge my arguments as very weak, because unlike yours, they are based on actual data, while your arguments are founded on incorrect data at several places.
Your arguments in this comment make sense, the arguments in the article are non-existent, so yeah, they were weak. I mentioned the Laffer curve because it was your main argument in the last article and since you do not mention the actual reason of why your prediction was correct, one could understand that you thought your main argument was the reason. But it was a question since you do not explicitly mention it.
Maybe I did not word my comment correctly, I meant those two points as questions. You answered those questions (especially the first one). I am more than open to accept lower taxes, as I said in Congress if someone has very strong arguments. One argument was provided by Shawty low in the same thread. If that is together with no expected inflation and no need to create more programs, I am less opposed to lower taxes. But I need to see some numbers.
But hey, your modus operandi since you arrived in this country was attacking everyone who does not agree with you until that person gets tired. Because it is clear (and I hope you know it) that you are the person with the biggest stamina and willingness to argue.
If I had to list all reasons my predictions usually end up to be correct, it would no longer be "quick announcement" (not like this one is quick anyway, I have problem with making too much text while trying to express my thoughts 🙁 ) .
Either way, game allows to change taxes in 24 hours - so if we find ourselves in unfavourable conditions due to sudden unexpected market movements, we can always reverse any tax change back. At this moment, our economy is in such a condition, that we can lower the work tax, without hurting our programs or decreasing their effectivness and without hurting our budget as a whole as well. So if we run out of ways to spend money, it is a possible option, which some governments might choose to pursue. I do not personally see salaries and prices of houses to go down anytime soon (unless CO's magically appear again, which could have an influence), so we will hopefully stay on this level of tax income for a while.
And my "modus operandi" is to make sure we do decisions based on facts, and not opinions or falt-out incorrect statements - and not "to attack everyone until he gets tired", as your "personal attack" (I am sure you would call it "attack", if I used these words to describe you) suggests. And people l debate with generally tend to ignore facts, which can sometimes makes me angry, I admit that 😉 .
avg salary: 1000 ESP
work tax: 3%
WaM cost: 30cc, lols
pretty much destroying raw production and making company costs unrecoverable. Just change it to 1%, the game doesnt allow any other shit rn, getting 10cc (implying spanish bonus) in a Q1 food company per day means more than 2 years ROI
Nice to see!
Would have been nice though if you had shown the specific tax along with the avg salary as that shows the relation where it's about. I'm afraid the avg salary isn't tracked though?
It's tracked officially since I became MoF (= Day 4,15😎 each week - amongst many other things. Before that, I have to rely on my private data. "The specific tax" - not sure, what that means, but if you mean income from work tax alone, that is a number not available to us with all TWs and Concessions. However , an approximate relation between average salary and total tax income looks like this:
https://prnt.sc/o1olep
(and just to note - between Days 4,170 - 4,180 (approx.) there was that long spring event or what, so the bigger tax income during those days was influenced by the event)
WT data should be deductible from in-game data I'd say so should be available. Concession AFAIK has no influence on WaM tax.
It's very little data in the extra graph so dangerous to draw conclusions especially as it lacks a period before the WT% changed but WT change seems to have dropped relative to salary which could indicate no extra work is done so no effect by the WT other than managers paying less tax.
But as sai😛 there is not enough data to jump to a conclusion.
"WT data should be deductible from in-game data I'd say so should be available."
Yeah, no... one part of our WT income goes to Poland. Another part is lost in city tax due to concessions. The size of those parts? We could probably try to do some estimate calculation, but I could not guarantee the calculated number is correct. So no - unless we cancel all TWs and concessions, nobody can tell you, how big our WaM income on individual day really is. I already discussed that in one of my previous articles though 😉 .
Do not blame MoF, blame the game, for not giving us enough information on certain things. Improvements were done, but it is not enough. I collect as much data as I can (and dare I say, more data than any of my predecessors in the entire Dutch history actually did) - if that is still not enough, nothing will be enough.
I disagree. It's rather simple. Take day 4,223:
WaM = 8,109
WaM% = WaM/(Concession+WaM+Work+VaT+M+IT taxes)= 15.00%
Poland takes 15,258 so out WT = 8,109 + 15% of 15,258 = 10,398
Cities is a constant so you can leave it out.
You repeat the mistake of Dutch government during first month of rental concessions. Which is understandable, if you have not looked into how concessions work in bigger detail. Hence why you claimed incorrect statement of:
"Cities is a constant so you can leave it out."
Why do you think our City Tax before concession was -500 cc, and now it is - 5000 cc ? Part of our taxes (Work Tax included) goes to City Tax due to conessions - why do you think we have "concession income" and "concession payment" as two separate rows in Finance Sheet? Because the first one is Iran repaying our City Tax losses, which are caused because of their concessions. If we had no concession, our City Tax would be different.
+ even if cities were constant, the effect of work tax needs to be measured in other areas outside WaM (Medals and Work), so your number would be wrong anyway.
So in the end, it might look simple on the first glance, but it is not really THAT simple as you claim 😉 .
I'm fully aware of the cities tax when it comes to what Poland takes. Makes no difference whatsoever on the subject at hand. the WaM is included in what Poland takes (and returns) so that needs to be taken into account. Technically you could add an extra 10% from the city tax but we can't use it and as said it's a constant so has no effect.

Brrrrh... I was actually wrong, mixed two things together in my head and forgot, we talk about work tax income, and not total income for two comments 😑 .
Either way, Work Tax income needs to include Work and Medals too, I am not wrong on that one 😃 !
You got me on the wrong foot for a moment Janty. However: The numbers I used for WaM tax are from before city tax so they actually are the just ones to take the WaM% and size (not for showing how much is added directly to our treasure on a daily bases as city tax is taken out before that) Only thing you need to add is the tax taken by Poland which I did and gives you the actual WaM tax. That tax is taken before city taxation so can be added to the full and actually is a nice way to limit city taxes taken I’d say. As an example: without the occupation the taxes taken by Poland on day 4.223 would have been added to the taxes shown, leading to a tax income of 69.307 and thus 6,931 city tax.
AFAIK we get the extra city tax due to concession returned so that has no effect on WaM income. The effect for our country treasure is as if the city tax is 10% of the actual taxes while our cities are filled with the extra 10% so in effect our income is above 100% should we be able to use that city taxes...
And yes you also need to take other taxes into account hence my statement to "show the specific tax along with the avg salary" so you can see the effect on all of them. You however started with stating you could not calculate the WaM tax so I showed you how 😉.
Can be done in the same way for WT. You could even add them together first and adapt the formula accordingly but then you would not be able to differentiate the effect on the specific area's...
And yes admins mess things up. WaM tax was not even around when Occupation tax was introduced I think let alone Concessions. It was not stated anywhere AFAIK those would also be taken into account for the calculation of the amount of tax taken. Nor was it communicated they apparently changed the taxation itself as well as initially only from a 80% share of our taxes the occupation tax should be taken which it also doesn't as Poland takes 25% of our tax, not 20% (25% of 80😵.
However if you still disagree: show me some calculations that show I'm wrong/what part I miss. I'm only human so I can be wrong or miss things. Just like you 😉
Not sure what part of the above still applies given your deleted message.
And I can see your confusion as well given the fact WT alongside AVG salary would make no sense and can be shown alongside the tax%...
So showing the taxes affected alongside the variable(s) influencing it makes more sense.
For clarity: Poland takes 25% of our tax when holding 1 region as was the case today for several hours before winning the direct and I actually checked if my earlier suspicion and investigation was still true. And guess what: Tax income till 04:51 today 48,251, taken by Poland 12,063...
Hmm, this trick with "limiting the city tax size" is quite neat, never thought about that one.
Weekstrom for MoF, I resign!
why don't you tell other players that you are bankrupt?
Eh?
why don't you tell other players that you are bankrupt?
"Eh?" intensifies...
...and finally you don't seem to understand. This happens (rarely) to some people....
"Eh?" * 3, must be hot in Macedonia, as I see fata morgana's all over the place
...which is a proof "IN DEED" that you do not understand - or pretending that you don't understand
🙂
Haven't laughed in a while, so thanks you for your contribution - care to join Netherlands to bring laughter to all of us 😉 ?
Come on now...your articles make us all laugh! Laughter is a good thing though! 🙂
Thank you for that.
Why don't you go - freely of course- to any country you like and make players laughing worldwide?
"make us all laugh"
...maybe you should start seeing a specialist, if you talk about yourself in plural 🙂
Seriously though, you are always welcomed here, even though you are not really an active player, which is what we are looking for!
hahaha who told you I'm the only one laughing with you and your articles?
Mind your words though!
Thanks for "welcoming" however you play this game and you know that everybody is welcomed to comment any article! 🙂
Have a nice afternoon and ... GOOD LUCK!
You know I like your funny way of playing this game and that's why I comment on your articles, Ah there's one more reason: I believe that you have overestimated yourself.
Overestimated myself by engaging in silly conversation with you?
Nah, doubt that - I need my daily dose of seeing "crazy people", and you fulfill that perfectly 🙂 . Too bad you never share your opinions with people from your actual nation (Macedonia or Cuba, both of those) - I think they need to hear your voice too to smile more o/ !
Just keep on writting your articles and be ensured that you keep our laughing requirements in high levels (both Cuban and Greek players).
" Not having laughed (in) *FOR a while " as you claim, is something that you should care.
P.S I really enjoyed your article in which you were supposed to deliver RUM from Cuban players .... HAHAHAHAHA what made me laugh most of all was a picture of you driniking a bottle of rum....HAHAHAHAHA just keep on rocking. THANK YOU FOR YOUR FUNNY ARTICLES!!!!
The amount of "mad" incoming from you is reaching dangerous levels indeed 🙂
Wish you the best of luck.
