Order in the Chaos: The Second Impeachment

Day 2,599, 14:09 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by Spir Tus

Almost everyday there will be new reactions in debates about things nobody seems to really understand. There are a lot of opinions and people who are reffering to old debates. There seems to be an ethos of common knowledge and habits. Information is not needed, because everyone understands the common, usual things. This is called experience, and I do not have it. For someone new, or someone who does not follow all the debates, it is hard to understand a debate and to participate. The aim of this column is to create order in this chaos. This time I will try to give some clearance of the impeachment of the government of Gen. de la Rey.

Information is very important. We've seen this with the last government with Country President GEN. DE LA REY. This government is impeached by congress mainly due to the lack of communication. There are a lot of discussion going on about this, so I would like to adress this discussion and I hope this will help for a clearer view on the impeachment. This will mainly be my personal motivation why I voted 'Yes' for the impeachment of that government.

The main reason for the impeachment of the government of Gen. de la Rey is ignoring the decision of congress. There was a voting for a War with Belgium and congress voted 'No' for this war. Nevertheless, the war started. There was no communication about this war. Not for its citizens (see my previous article) nor for congress. There was no explanation at all why we had this war in spite of the decision of congress. The government stated they couldn't inform the citizens or congress because of NSPP has forbidden to talk about the war.

For me personally, the lack of communication as a citizen was very frustrating. All of a sudden we were at war and noone knew why. The war had become a secret war from my point of view. Asking government members about this war resulted in the answers that it was forbidden to talk about the war. Even little information like "There is a war going on with Belgium" was forbidden according to some government members.

Congress has the highest authority in our country. This is an important democratic value. This means the government should always listen to congress. If they don't they are damaging our democracy. For me this was enough to vote "Yes" on the impeachment voting. Even if this meant we wouldn't have a government for the last week of this term.

Some days ago it became clear to me that the government of Gen. De la Rey wasn't ignoring congress. They were only very bad in communicating this to congress. Because there was no information about the whole war starting process (because this war forbidden), congress hadn't a clear view of what was going on. Anyway, this was the case for me.

Do I regret my choice for impeaching the government of Gen. De La Rey? I don't know. With the information which I have now, I would have voted 'No'. But it looked like the government was ignoring congress in decision making and this should be prevented always and at all costs to assure democracy.

The fact is, if the government of Gen. De la Rey was better informing congress, I would have voted differently. So due to the lack of communication they were impeached. The lack of communication was also a reason to impeach them, but not the most important one. Like many people said before, the government of Gen. de la Rey wasn't the worst government in communication and with their appointment as government after the Lord Jale impeachment in mind, it was a very bad situation. They have done their best for our country and I haven't lost any confidence in any of the government members. But the facts are that they are impeached because congress didn't knew about the war.

Next up will be an article about the interim government. This is a new phenomenon which is created because we have no official government anymore with the impeachment of the government of Gen. De la Rey. Tomorrow you will find some information about this interim government and the upcoming war with Hungary, so stay tuned!
