One man's thoughts...
Angrr
In the last few days, I have written 3 long articles which I didn’t publish.
The reasons for this are various, but I will try to explain why.
The last article I wrote – which I deleted without even saving – was a platform for President.
Why did I delete it? Why did I decide to run?
In my opinion, the country is in a mess. This is largely due to the war, but to me it seems that some underlying problems were highlighted by this war – I just hadn’t noticed them before.
With the country being in the state it is in, I wanted to rejoin congress and add my voice to the diet, try to influence some decisions and help stabilise our nation. This did not work out, as anti-PTO measures rendered my candidacy invalid. When I saw the candidates who stepped up for the next election – Yonsil, Shimiken and Nowe – I knew that any of these was a poor choice at the best of times, and dangerous at a time like this. I decided that the best course of action was to present my ideas, run myself and let the people decide.
For the record, I would like to say that I have nothing against any of the candidates mentioned above. I merely do not think that it would be wise to elect any of them into office. Inactivity, poor diplomacy and irresponsible would be some terms that could describe these candidates – not ideal given the current political climate.
My platform was based upon taking time to regroup. Rebuilding our foreign relations with proper diplomacy, and end of hostilities with Korea, looking into the issue of the constitution and Righteous Nation Policy – if it is dead, then something should be done – and rebuilding our treasury. I have not decided yet not to run, but I now question whether there is a point.
I came to a realisation – what I have always fought for, what I try hard to protect and what I have always been proud of – it no longer exists. Or it has evolved into something different. Things change, ideals change and the people change. Citizens or politicians who remain here for a long time have more of a difficult time dealing with some of these changes – giant steps in the wrong direction in the eyes of the players who nursed this poor, small nation through it’s early days. I am one of a dying breed – a breed who helped build eJapan into something great. Something different and unique. As eJapan moves forward, it becomes more and more like the other nations of the eWorld, losing along the way the parts of eJapan which made it a special place. The issue is that only people like myself, Sophia Forrester, Origineel.NL and other veteran players know what the nation was like before this, so we fight a losing battle against change, looking increasingly like the old hermit who cannot accept change. In truth, we embrace change – we brought more change about than many new players can imagine. It is when these changes that we fought so hard for are undone that we cannot idly sit by.
And so, realising this, I ask – does anyone in the nation really share my beliefs anymore? People may vote for me in the popularity contest that is the Presidential election, but would they truly support my policies? I do not seek to halt progress, or to go back to the “golden ages”, but to return a bit of balance and sense to the government.
Whether I run or not, an issue that has been bothering me – one that I would (if elected) investigate thoroughly – is the issue of cabinet ministers misusing their positions, or advising the President based upon selfish, greedy motives.
The war against eSouth Korea was meant to be for the good of eSK, but the government soon admitted that it was purely for fun. This is no way to deal with foreign affairs, and we can see the mess that our actions created. I was even more concerned, though, that when a peace proposal was brought to the government, another motivation for the war became apparent. It seems – according to the logs of the IRC conversation – that the reason for the war was to get all the way to eNorth Korea and get Oligagnon’s companies into eJapan. Our minister of finance seemed to be using the war as his own personal playground. He also stated that some Q5 eSouth Korean companies were wanted in eJapan. The cost of this war was massive – we could quite easily have created Q5 companies for less. To see high-ranking government officials betraying the people’s trust in such a way rankles, and I for one demand some answers.
And so, what should I do?
The decision is yours eJapan. As president, I am confident that I could repair some of the damage caused by this war, and set us on the way to recovery. My experience in Foreign Affairs would also help repair the damage done in our relationship with our Asian neighbours. But I need to know that eJapan still wants to be the kind of country I remember. If we have become a country where anything is OK so long as it is fun, then I propose that you elect Yonsil and I will retire from politics completely. If there are still people interested in using this game as it was intended – a social / political simulator, then speak up and show your support. Party Presidents, this is aimed at you also. This is a genuine statement of intent. I cannot continue to be involved in politics if we no longer care about “the good of the people” or “consequences” – two terms that may have been abandoned of late.
Feel free to debate the points I brought up here. Please don’t delete the article.
I will either step down tomorrow, or publish a proper presentation.
Angrr.

nice. cheers from eIndonesia
Let's not forget that this is the same Angrr that started a Resistance War in Japanese controlled regions just because he didn't have absolute power last year - simply because he didn't agree with Oraizan & co. Let's also not forget this is the same Angrr that caused eJapan to go into further chaos during that time, and has always gone inactive period over period of time when he doesn't get his way.
Let's also remember that this is the same Angrr that rides off other peoples ideas and attempts to claim them as his own so that he can be at the head of EVERY important role, because he is the most neutral person in eJapan and the most righteous, never looking for any sort of fame or power.
You're a pompous, hypocritical ass.
Are you stupid Angrr. The war with SK had a very good military reason, which members of Congress were well aware of. If you want to know, PM me.
Did you 2click to make this article too?
tl;dr qq moar
>If we have become a country where anything is OK so long as it is fun, then I propose that you elect Yonsil and I will retire from politics completely.
Elect me and you will be free of Angrr. He promises.
I support this article.
Wow, you won me over. Oli is clearly out of control with his high wages and cheap goods. His clever use of game mechanics as Minister of Finance to not only declare war but also make it so it appeared that the Diet voted for it overwhelmingly clearly indicates that he multies Danyeo and 90% of the legislature. He must be stopped at any cost.
PS: Oli, please don't fire me or lower my wage.
The comments are pretty much on a par with what I expected.
Nowe, I never attacked you specifically, but you chose to take a go at me. I could ask the same of your attention span - you started a party and left it weeks later. You jump from country to country more than anyone I know, and about a week ago you were in Malaysia begging for gold to start a party.
The way that the entire war was handled reeked of uncertainty and errors. I do not claim that the minister of finance started a war or convinced congress, but he clearly had his own motives in agreeing, and according to him "eJapan will always want [the region in eNK that holds his companies] as long as I am here." - which suggests that he has some influence in such things.
There is plenty of space remaining to throw insults at me, but I will grow tired of responding to them soon.
[removed]
Malaysia = country. Japan = country. Travel from Malaysia to Japan = country to country.
You decided to take shots at me first.
What does what I did more than a year ago - which you have no understanding of - have to do with you?
There is really no need for the aggression, you know.
>You jump from country to country more than anyone I know,
Don't exaggerate, fgt.
Also, if you didn't purposely act like a spoiled brat who throws a hissyfit whenever he doesn't get what he wants or acts like hes above everyone else, then perhaps I wouldn't need to verbally punch you in the face.
I am not above everyone else, nor do I believe that I should be.
I am not really sure where you get that from.
All I said was that in my opinion (which means nothing to you) the candidates were not the best for the nation.
Who are you to judge who is best for the nation whilst pulling yourself up on a pedestal? I could see if you did this once or twice, but in EVERYTHING you aim for, the person you're against is not best, because you are the best choice for everything. It's not cute. You can see why quite a few people are getting tired of your self-righteous attitude where you believe you're the cream of the crop after going inactive for /months/, then coming back and putting everyone elses work down as if you could do better - when you don't.
Good article.
Nowe, don't hate the man. He only does what he believes is the best for eJapan.
Wow, ok Nowe's mauturity (or maybe immaturity) level just lost any chance of respect or a vote from me. Still undecided on who to vote for. I say throw in the hat Angrr, and it would definitely strengthen the canidate field.
Thanks,
Kenji Nakamure

Ah, Yes. I still remember the fun old days...

Thank you, Akki-sama~ ♥
good luck angrr
Sk war was done for almost every reason that has been mentioned.
Fun was one of them (IT'S A GAME), but the various ways it would help South Korea where big factors too. Get off your high horse.
The war only damaged the treasury, internationally nobody cares at all. Where are these outraged people Angrr? Stop projecting IRL onto a game.
The outraged people? Try eSouth Korea.
Is Angrr even IRC active? 😒 I never see him on there... 80% of eRepublik is played through that, you never receive my vote if your not active in the official channel. End of
story, sorry.
Interesting article and comments, good laught xD
Mister "Neo", goodluck for presidency !
If only South Koreans care, then there is no Foreign Affairs disaster and no need for this article is there?
Your article is phrased to imply that most of Asia hate us for it. They just don't care.
@ Alfred - Speaking in general, isnt 80% a bit of an exaggeration?
Granted, I understand it took alot of your time, hence your article last week. But isn't that mainly due to the fact that you chose to play it that way?
What happens in IRC? For those who're on hours at a time... mostly nothing. We get on, pretend to be constantly monitoring when in actuality, we can be watching a ball game or playing some other game or asleep. If you're adding those afk hours then i guess 80% is understandable, but during the 4-5 hours or a typical IRC'er logs on each night, maybe make a comment or 2 relevant to game then log off, in actuality is no more then 5 minutes.
Angrr, like I said to your last article, you weren't here. And not just you. Origineel took a serious backseat in the nation, instead choosing to focus on the doomed TFC. Sophia Forrester is inactive until every couple of months she decides to run for Congress, wins, throws out a storm of huge posts about about changing some policy or another, and them promptly disappears.
In the absence of leadership, others will take the reins who have a different philosophy than you. I'm dealing with that now, it's disappointing to see the philosophy of government change so much from when I was in, but I'm not so disappointed to want to devote the time again to be a real leader. Besides, danyeo needs to do his own thing, leadership needs to be passed on to newer, younger players.
The eJapan you want to be President of doesn't exist anymore, and realistically probably never did. All you get is the eJapan we have, flaws and all. And to be President is to be President of the whole thing, not just to champion your personal philosophy.
Angrr move to The Netherlands. Its a nice country although slight unorganized compared to eJapan. It needs some work, they would pobably be glad to have a Pres like you there.
Good luck Angrr!
"The eJapan you want to be President of doesn't exist anymore, and realistically probably never did. All you get is the eJapan we have, flaws and all."
Lol. Agreed fully with this.
I don't understand why you're trying to win the hearts of Japan with such negativity.
@Aogo
It's called "One mans thoughts." of course only he agrees with his own views. Everything Angrr thinks is absolute in his universe; sadly this isn't Angrr's universe.
>@ Alfred - Speaking in general, isnt 80% a bit of an exaggeration?
No I am not, if you want to succeed in a good country you must be active on IRC, end of story. You meet all your contact mostly on here, granted it may be slightly exaggerated but as I said I have not seen him ONCE on IRC, my beef here is not with his views as he comes off whiny and a bit abrasive I just don't take him seriously because if your not IRC active, then the facts are your just not a serious candidate.
@Akki Touché
Meh, I know you meant it more to drive home a valid point. You just caught my interest when you quantified it with such a specific number.
Given your past article, I was honestly curious just how much you spent your time on IRC that made you burn out.
Why do people comment about a past that they were not even a part of? Yeah Angrr flipped on a lot of us and left, and many of us were mad, but I definitely don't hold it against him. It's not something you can't understand, and its something everybody from every political side has done at least once. Even the lovely Dokobro who's running for office. Wain all you want, learn to accept the truth.
Angrr; I can relate.
@Alfred Ball - To say I am never on IRC is an exaggeration. Sure, I don't idle in the channel 24 hours a day - because I don't need to. I have no cabinet position, am not in congress, so why should I be required to spend my time in IRC?
When I had a government position, I was in IRC all the time. If it is neccessary, I am there. In a similar fashion, when I am not sick, I don't hang around the hospital on the off-chance something interesting happens, but if I became sick, I am sure I would be there a lot.
Then run when you can dedicate time. I wish you the best of luck on the elections though as well as all the candidates.
