My perpetual disappointment in Erepublik
JohnKennedy
Every so often, I start playing this game again. I can't help it. There's no other game quite like it. I really want to enjoy it. But every time I come back, something else happens. Whatever it is, it keeps this game from moving forward to what it could be. The most recent time happened to be the latest venture at a "stock market."
I'd always wanted to have a stock market on here, it would make the economic model so much more exciting (not that it isn't riveting right now). Of course, it's been tried a couple of times with no success. But this time was different! It was backed by a branch of the eUS government! So your money would be safe, you see. Insured. You need confidence when investing, of course, so you'll give them your money.
Well I gave them some money, because I wanted to support this project. I wanted it to succeed. I invested $7k, a lot to some, a little to others. It rose quickly to about $9.5k. At some point, they lost something, and all the money was taken out of accounts, and told to be reinvested. In an article they wrote. I'm not in the habit of checking articles often, so I didn't see this announcement. I would assume if something important like that happened, they would message their investors. It's not like they had that many. So my money was left out. The last article that I read had it (if it had been reinvested the same) valued at $13. Then a couple weeks later, I find out it's done. The guy running it has something IRL to do. So..I lost my money. The $7k, the $9k, the $13k.
But the money isn't even the thing that really bothers me. The problem is that we try to do fun things like this, that will add new levels to the gameplay, but they always seem to fail. I don't think this game will ever be what it wants to be or could be. So I'll continually lose interest, and inevitably come back hoping something good will actually happen this time.
Big shout out to WookyJack for helping me with some of my loses. Nice guy right there.

Maybe you have heard the saying RL > erep, maybe not. While i have my gripes with erep and Plato, i do agree this game is fun and intriguing. I hope you dont not rest the entire experience on a stock market. I empathized with your situation because besides that the only time i have seen you actively play this game is joining some battles, hang out on irc and try a stock market that last 2 months.
It gets better after it gets worse. I know you have your affiliations elsewhere in this game but if you truly want to experience the diversity of this game i invite you to join the Federalist Party, or even just join shield. We have a phenomenal group of men and women who constantly have a good time. Dont believe me? Ask them yourself and you will get the truth.
I hope you stay because player retention is this game's biggest plight and I would really enjoy you stay with the community.
Ps we can make fun of Plato together. Come on. How fun is that? 🙂
Maybe some of the Feds and Shield should some to BlackSheep we have allot of fun too!!
Yea, I agree with Henry!! WookyJack, you should join VMA!! I can assure you, our IRC game is the most unique aspect of any MU. 😃
sounds like we need to go find the guy and get your money.

This game is the biggest disappointment since my marriage, yet I come back to it like an abused spouse because there are glimmers of fun with the MUs and IRC.

The sheep talking about going after someone who took money. Ironic, very ironic. I guess it takes a thief to catch a thief.
Pretty sure that "debt" has been paid in full.
No doubt. I'm well aware it was paid. I just find it amusing that the same people who had no problem stealing now talk about going after the return of property. The fact that it was paid off doesn't mean it wasn't stolen. Paying a debt to society doesn't erase a crime it merely makes an attempt at atonement. To be fair though the sheep are small time thieves. The JCS militia hold the theft championship here in the eUSA. Most likely no group will ever come close to stealing the amount the JCS stole. Theft is theft and thieves will always be thieves, whether that which is stolen is paid back or not.
Oh, I thought they did it just to complete the missions in the theft module.
we never stole from hard working erepublikians all we ever did was help people can you say the same ?
Well as all hardworking erepublikans pay taxes into the government coffers, any group that runs off with infrastructure paid for with those taxes has stolen from every taxpayer. That fact was true when the JCS did it, and remained true when the sheep leaders did the same. You helped yourselves. Military units attract players by the supplies they offer. You folks used your ill gotten supplies to attract players that most likely would have ended up in the government military into your military unit. Then you parlayed your military unit into a party and power base for yourselves which got you guys into congress where you could pursue your own agenda. None of that would have happened without the infrastructure. As for me,I don't claim to help anyone. I'm freelance and self-funded. I don't ask for anything nor do I expect supplies from anyone. I do as I please and owe no one. That means I'm free to call theft what it is....theft and don't have to concern myself with anyone not liking the truth, whether it's the sheep or the JCS.
You sounds like an old mad player with nothing better to do but try to bash people who do help people. Never even heard of you until now you must be one of Phiffers bitches that hide under rocks now.
The feeling is mutual. I had never heard of you either until you popped up here to defend your merry little band of thieves. It's somewhat strange that anytime the sheep or JCS are called out on their thievery, the automatic response is "oh you must be connected with Pfeiffer". I have played this game since 2008, and in all those years I have not had even one conversation with Pfeiffer. In fact my only contact with the guy has been a few article comments in passing. Is it that hard for you to accept that average players who are not members of groups that steal tend to look down on theft. And once again you helped yourselves. If you have to tell yourself that you " help people" in order to feel better about being part of an organization that was built with stolen goods, then by all means do so. Play the game how you want. But don't get sensitive when the theft that built your group gets mentioned. Take care now.
Pfeiffer got a new account? Day-um!
Pfeiffer! How you do?!? How have you played on this account for three years and not gotten it that CP medal yet?!?
Hello, Mr. Nobody.
No one knows who you are, so no one cares what you say. And definitely don't care what you think.
Good bye, Mr. Nobody.
xD
morningblur has a valid point depending upon perspective. I was there and remember it well.
@morningblur the reality is much more nuanced. I never felt any theft occurred. For most, if not all, time, effort, and real life cash more than offset anything they are said to have stolen.
