LOWER OUR FREAKIN TAXES
Joe DaSmoe
Yeah thats the Speaker's ride.
Im tired of the BS, the over complication of the tax system, the lack of political will congressmen have, the false promises.
WE HAVE HAD NO FORUMS FOR OVER A WEEK, OUR CONGRESS CANNOT FUNCTION PROPERLY WITHOUT THEM.
So screw trying to debate, just do it.
I have proposed taxes on food and grain be lowered.
BE A MAN, vote what the people want instead of listening to the dogmatic BS that is spread on the broken useless forums.
Here you go American's, watch your Congress deny you the right to keep more of your money!
Here is the link.

eJimmy McMillan strikes again!
Seriously Joe, why do what the masses want? That seems to be the argument you are leading with.
There is a reason that IRL (this game is based on RL) there isn't a direct democracy and politicians don't always do what the masses want. It is to keep the mob away from the governing. I'd say that, if we're talking morally, it would be worse for a congressman to vote for something he disagrees with to go with the masses than the alternative.
The good of the state>morality/wants of the masses.

Lower taxes would be nice, but I don't have the full story on the thing I will reserve judgment on the proposed changes. Nothing like a little political dust-up every once in awhile to keep ppl interested. 🙂🙂
well they can say no all they want. i`m waiting for my turn in 3days i will be the one who is saying no
Don't blame forums for congressional lack of activity. You're more than welcome to create a backup forum for congress. I've told multiple congress people this. The executive has it and congress probably should too. The idea was raised in our backup to potentially create a backup congress place on our forum just so it's consistently there for all terms no matter what branch you're in.
You've been on this horse for so long buddy. I'm pretty sure it's died and you're beating it. Last time you rage quit over it and you come back expecting people to really believe you're willing to have a real conversation about taxes with you? Like we've talked in the past, I understand what you're getting at with this, but you've consistently gone crazy over it.
The good of the state>morality/wants of the masses.
What is this type of government called?
Joe, allow me to bring RL into this for one moment.
This is an analogy from a speech I wrote awhile back, arguing against Democracy.
"Consider the following: A car company is tasked with creating a car, as any car company is. However, they must consider the input of every single person who is buying the car. Here’s the problem, only 10% of these people actually know how the cars work. 90% genuinely believe that they can do anything with these cars, and are adamant in their beliefs. The populace will polarize into groups that want the car to get good gas mileage, and other groups that will argue for a higher speed. More groups will argue safety over style. Others still will argue the idiotic, that they want their car to run on soda, or forever, or fly, or fire missiles, or run themselves. Even more will argue that we don’t need the car! At one point, the efficiency of the system must be valued over its ability to incorporate everyones opinions. This is the fatal flaw of a democratic system, the fact that idiocy must be incorporated in order to incorporate the opinions of all the population."
Here's the flaw with your support. You draw your support from the populace, the people who know nothing of how the budget works or how the economy works. Not because the information is withheld from them, but because they don't care to learn about it.
However, the opposition is full of Congressmen, Political Elites, and Economic Experts. All of these people know best how to run an economy, simply because they've been doing it for the entirety of their careers. Your populace is idiotic. They are ignorant. And if their will is the basis of your argument, then that too, is ignorant.
Yield to the people who know what they're talking about, or prove them wrong. Be Civil. We cannot function as a society through operating solely on the people's will, for it is ever changing and ignorant of its own consequences.
Keep servin' the Kool Aid up peeps.
As for me, I have about enough of this governments shizz.
The good of the state>morality/wants of the masses.
What is this type of government called?
Fascism generally. I know you attach bad connotations to fascism however this is a game. No one can actually take away your rights other than the admin, and no one can kill millions of people. You have the right to vote in people who want lower taxes. You should vote for people who agree with you, because it is unreasonable to think that someone will vote based on what you want just because you made a stupid choice.
morality/wants of the masses>needs of the state
Anarchy. Oh, and failure.
Vote for people you agree with if you want something done, otherwise shut up.
Lower rifle taxes.

idk 23% of 19.21 is 4.41 usd a day the government takes from my pay. That's a day. That's 31 usd a week. Hella food right thar.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!! \o
no.
Joe.. not trying to serve you kool aid.. Just trying to get this to be a healthier process than you raging about it every 6 months, quitting for a month or two then coming back, repeat. I've heard some people who are technically against this say it MIGHT be possible and are willing to talk about it, but they're unwilling to work with you because you rage about it too much.
Seriously, sign off for a bit, take a breather, shoot PMs out to econ type people and organize some sort of discussion about this free from the populous that has no idea what they're doing budget wise. I'm just trying to help this from aggravating our small group of people that work consistently monitor our economic setup to see if it's working the best it can be. We can make this work for everyone if everyone just calms down and takes a breath.
Inwegen, Its my paper and I'll rage if I want to lol, u know I luv ya babe.
You know the current surplus we have, of course you don't mention that, maybe I will.
Great, I love how Joe was shot down the first time and tries again when he sees a chance with the forums down. No numbers were provided the first time and we asked to wait for the economy module to come out before making changes.
maybe he is getting not enough donations???
http://economy.erepublik.com/en/citizen/donate/list/1212392
sekoras-
He's given away more money than he took in. And btw, the government money isn't in the hands of the president, it is in the CBO, an org held by someone elected by the congress.
And good argument, IT MUST BE A CORRUPTION. Can't think of a logical reason why it is wrong?
@SGGHAYS
Oh I provided numbers, and the forum mods promptly removed them as "confidential."
So here you want some numbers?
WE ARE RUNNING ANYWHERE FROM 30 TO 40 THOUSAND DOLLARS OVER BUDGET....PER WEEK........ PER.... FREAKIN......... WEEK.
GIVE PEOPLE SOME OF THEIR MONEY BACK.
I'm not saying don't rage in your own paper. Just don't shove it down other peoples throats in discussion. I actually don't know the current state of the treasury, but I do know some plans are in the air that could be potentially costly. I know extra surplus that sits around is wasteful, but there is always potential of invasion or expansion. Gold is everything and when the standard citizen can't do much on their own with it (I'm getting at the fact that it's better for less educated citizens need lots of guidance - usually through military type groups or political parties - to be successful in this game).
I wouldn't mind having a bit of extra money in my personal pocket either, but I know when it comes to defensive or offensive invasions, we quickly go through a surplus. There were times this summer that me and others helping run an administration had to make repeated decisions to call off any further tank funding because it would leave our coffers too low.
I'm just asking for a bit more work by all econ people (no one has done a good job at being civil with each other) to work together on a POSSIBLE restructure of our tax policy. Maybe a temporary change to see what the affects are. I'm not entirely sure because I have never claimed to be econ minded... but, I do know you're all bright and can work diligently to make sure we have the best system in place for the nation.
thank you for correcting me professor oak but i believe he got 170 and gave back 70 anyhow doesn't really matter if you look at the top dog`s donation lists i think you will find funny stuff
40,000 (weekly surplus)/ (1,500 (citizens)*7(days of work)= 3.8 dollars of more money citizens would get if we lowered the taxes to only what we use.
If the average citizen makes ~20 usd daily then 20*7=140 weekly. They'd pay 32.2 of that to the state. So to cut to minimum we should drop our taxes about 13% of what they are.
That's like 2 point drop in taxes. IE-it isn't that big of a deal, and we would lose reserves if we did so.
Is the ~4 dollars of taxes really so necessary that we should lower taxes so we wouldn't have reserves for a crisis? If we are invaded the government would need even more money, so if we had no reserves we'd have to raise taxes just when the citizens would want to fight harder.
I don't think it is worth it.
@sekoras
Donations from someone who doesn't have access to tax money and buys gold themself isn't actually 'funny'.
He overall gave away more than he took in.
Odds are (seeing that there is a budget that people can check) that it was some of JF's personal funds.
A Democracy is bound to fail. It is mob rule. Who ever has the most votes (mob) wins (beats crap out of smaller mob). In RL America we have a Republic. Foreign idea to most Americans. We elect representatives who believe mostly as we do, by majority vote. The Democracy stops there. The representatives (are supposed to) look at each bill, weigh the plus & minus and vote on what's best for everybody concerned. This of course rarely happens in RL. Can it succeed in eRepublik?
As far as me being an idiot, help me out. Like Lucy said, "Splain it to me Ricky!" Perhaps one of our experts here could print an article stating our current economic system in layman's terms so we can all understand.
And to Joe goin' off in his own paper? I have said this on other forums outside eRepublik, "If you don't like what's being said, UNSUBSCRIBE!". Keep stirrin' the pot Joe.
Voted No on all proposals.
You haven't shown any significant data or records as to why our taxes should be lower, while the other side has countless amounts of data, facts, and information.
Don't come with these things until you have significant information as to /why/ we should lower taxes.
Inwegin never said don't do these types of things, he said it would be more beneficial for him not to.
Oak is right. Mr. Incorrectly spelled vegetable name: You don't understand real news reading. You know the best way to know your opposition in real life? Read their primary sources. I'm not saying I'm Joe's opposition either... I am just trying to get a real solution to the tax debate than people on both side running around calling each other poopy head. It's pointless.
sadly i agree! I am tired of listening to people cry with no real argument. Just put it to a vote and let it get shoot down. Then at most we only have to deal with it two days out of the month.
the main problem was that your public counterargument included specific(confidential) budgetary information. Just do something using generalities rather than specifics and it could work. Quite a few congressmen have mentioned they'd be in favor a 20% tax rate.
Sigh. No, no, no.
point #1> I find nowhere a condensed explanation of the tax system. This may not sit well with serious players. Sorry, but I spend to much time as it is trying to learn this game.
point #2> I'm not quarreling, I think Joe is correct, in that if he feels an injustice is being done, to speak up. If the problem is that he's being too loud and obnoxious, change the channel. If you're making a 'useful' comment, I don't think he's listening.
Again with the taxes. Keep them high, and keep our military rolling.
pickle - Get it through the skull... I'm not telling him to be quiet.. I'm just asking all the econfgts to get together to talk through theories on tax structure before going to this rage posting. You're too young to know how often this topic comes up and someone ragequits by the end of it. Economic minded people are dwindling so I'd prefer to keep them all around even if their opinions differ.
I voted Yes because I felt like it.
Dude I think you took that Jimmy McMillan guy way to seriously.
@Inwegen, I understand you're not telling him to be quiet. Just saying, I don't think he's listening. I know I'm new and I appreciate the fact you recognize my comments. I would like to know and understand, there's just no one wanting to teach the new guys. I may not get aggravated like Joe, but I've got pissed at this game enough I've almost quit a couple times myself. In any situation, it's a shame when someone gives up because they are angry.

Jimmy McMillan was serious
@Joe, I understand your frustration. However, the proposal you made was considered by many to be too extreme of a tax change. There are some very knowledgeable folks who have spent tremendous amounts of time looking at the economic impacts of all variety of tax change and while there are conceptual merits to what you have proposed, this is a matter that must be discussed by congress so that all points of view can have their positions heard. It is my understanding that we are getting close to being functional again in terms of our forum. As soon as we are back up, please open a discussion there so we, as a congress, can discuss your ideas respectfully and I give you my word that regardless of how I feel about your proposal, I will, at the very least support it to come to a vote.
@Inwegen, you seen knowledgeable about the questions of having a functioning back-up, one that, as we informally discussed earlier, could be sponsored by the e-USA as an official back-up. I'd like to discuss that with you in greater detail, please be in touch.
I'll hang up and listen.
25 congressmen voted against the tax change. (punches hole in the wall) WTF PEOPLE!
when you think about it, it's draining america to do this. OMB was cool, yeah (at the cost of the economy), and free food and weapons are also cool, but all the noobs see is they sign up for s certain salary, and they get 5 USD less than what they were promised.
anyone who cares at all about saving erep and keeping our noobs in the game will vote yes to the tax change.
>when you think about it
>using general terms with no logic or explanation
>(at the cost of the economy)
>supported by nothing
>noobs get 5 USD less than promised
>using ping words to make you sound like a great person, implying there is a promise at all, implying that income tax is hidden, implying 23% of 10 usd is 5 usd
>anyone who cares [saving this, ping words]
>making your opponent seem less than human. putting your own side as the 'good guys'
Oh and Joe himself said do it for the people, yet we had most congressmen vote against it and that is the best way of telling what the people think. So the people are against it and nothing (here) was presented by anyone to signify a reason to change.
Oh man, taxes are 15% instead of 23%! This so makes me want to play this game more!
Great argument guys, keep 'em rollin'.
Taxes should be raised to 100% and all proceeds should go directly to me. I will then use that money to put a strangle hold on the US economy, at which point my foot will be on your throats and it will be glorious.
