Hi kids!
Time for a little talk. I'm not going to sit here and write that I'm the best choice for eCanadian CP. I'm not going to post anything negative about Dennis. I'm not going to bring up anything I did last month. I'm going to explain where I think we should go from here and let you decide what's the best choice.

Plans For June
On the domestic front, I've been speaking with Prince Sheogorath from United Front. They have an idea for a food program to help new players. While this is far from a new idea it is still a good idea. This will likely involve more than just hum drum passing out food to someone that posts a comment. We're considering some education regarding the Training Ground upgrades and self supply of food.
On Foreign Affairs I hope to have MoD DMV be on top of anything LETO and in communication with other MoD's to support what they are trying to accomplish. (This assumes we have no major skirmish locally.) Mr. klop will be working on MPP's to keep us part of the pack and to stay on top of our colonies in India.
Speaking of India, if time runs out for the current administration, I hope to seamlessly continue the acquisition of Northern India and the loss of Rajasthan. This will move will bring our Capitol home and bring us some much appreciated bonuses.
On to the tax debate. Since we will now have a more profitable economy with increased bonuses now's the time to bring our tax rate back to a more normal level. We had dropped our WT to 1% to prevent the US from profiting from them holding our regions. The previous WT was a trial rate of 3%. I would like to see it raised to at least that level. I would even be interested to see how a 5% WT would do but I understand everyone's concern. Don't be alarmed, nothing like the US debacle is going on. We just want to play with it for awhile and see what works best for everyone.
Other Taxes
I would take a moment to make a statement regarding VAT and Import Tax.
Value Added Tax is a tax on finished good. It can only be considered a sales tax, the producer pays this tax but it is directly passed on to the consumer by way of an increased sale price. It is always promoted as a way to get the business to pay their share but we all know they will still make a profit no matter how you twist it.
Import Tax (as far as concerns eRep) is a device to do one of two things. Either the tax is set low to allow people in other countries the opportunity to sell their stuff on our market. This has the effect of keeping local producers honest. (Read that as no price gouging.) The other way is to set the Import Tax high to discourage foreign profiteers from raping our econ. This is a valuable tool if local producers acknowledge the problem and do not inflate their prices above the overall eRep market.
My Opinion is that VAT should always remain at 1% and revenue be taken from Work Tax. With WT those who Work as Manager pay tax on how many companies they own. In other words, those who have more pay more. I don't want to tax someone just because they want to buy some food or weapons to fight with. This might only amount to pennies but they don't make a bunch to start with.
Import Tax is a tool and should be used as such. Currently we have enough production in Canada that foreign profiteers are not a concern. Therefore the tax should just be left at 1%. No proceeds to speak of will be collected and the cost of products would be best served if price gougers are aware that outsiders are ready to swoop in and take their profits. (I know there are no Canadian price gougers so this is rhetorical.)

I'm grateful to the MDP for allowing me to run on their ticket. I also thank the United Front for supporting my campaign. The Pickle's Patriots are gracious to allow me to be an absentee CO. (I think they're used to it, when I come home no one even notices anymore.)
I must thank everyone, from the top down, for the success we've had of late. It is a remarkable feat but one that I felt we were fully capable of achieving. So congrats all around.
I'd also like to than Rylde for introducing me into Canadian politics. Working with him whetted my appetite again. I play to have fun with friends, thank you for being a friend.

Don't know what to say. I'm the most inactive member of MDP. I'm not involved with party politics. I assumed that the purpose of the party was to elect the people we want in Congress and to CP so that we could be dick-taters.
What programs are you thinking the MDP should be running? I'll ask Jason about them.

On taxes, I agree with you on VAT vs WT, and the reasoning behind it.
However, I'm not a fan of going to a 5% WT, that seems very high considering we had a 3% before the long wipe (and well into it, at the insistence of Mr. Carter, even when we were paying the eUS extra to occupy us). And as the eUS example shows, "temporary" higher taxes tend to become entrenched forever. We survived just fine on 2% before the war (and the war cannot be blamed on that; even 25% wouldn't have brought in enough cash to stop the eUS wipes), so anyone who advocates for more than 3% had better show a _really_ compelling case as to why 3% isn't enough to fund necessary operations.
I never advocated a tax rate higher than 1% during occupation. The only time I have advocated for higher tax rates is when we have controlled our regions.
Then I apologize for mischaracterizing your position. It must have been someone else I was thinking of.

Trust me when I say that I don't like tax. I spent a good portion of my first year playing eRep AVOIDING TAXES. (That was back when the game mechanic of running your profit through the Money Market avoided paying tax.)
I run a commune that makes no profit, I distribute Q7's to the workers and even have to buy extra for myself sometimes. Everything I pay in WT is outgo. On the other hand I contribute when things need done. These donations are no more than a voluntary tax. Not everyone can do this. If I relied upon what I could 'make' playing the econ here I would quit playing. There is no way in hell to make enough farming RW to pay for crap, at least not how I play. But to each his own. If it's fun for you I say go for it.
Taking all that into consideration, I would just want to see what happens at 5% WT. I could literally be changed to 3% or even 2% the next day if the law were written correctly. I would hope it could stay at 5% long enough to get a feel for what it does to both the market and govt revenue. (I would put up a survey where major producers could post their profit/loss/tax info daily.)

I support a steep, temporary tax hike. "Freedom isn't free," and we need the funds to pay off the debts that DMV3 incurred. Keep it at 5% until Australia is repaid, then bump it back down to 3%.
Just so you know everything is moving forward to pay back Australia and the war bonds have been paid. We have a substantial amount of gold in the treasury that is difficult to get to because it must be used to make cc first. We are not broke. The reason to explore tax rates is to determine an amount of revenue that will sustain our expected expenditure for things like MPP's. We haven't even begun to explore government programs such as funding MU's so at the moment our needs are minimal.

I can assure you that all would be welcomed in my administration. Although everyone can't be in charge there is plenty of room for workers, staffers and interns. Only those who can't work as a team, that insist on doing their own thing would be left out.
I thrive on varying opinions, that helps me make good decisions. However if someone wants to run the show they can run themselves and be in charge. 🙂
