Lithuania declared war on Finland as an aircraft of the Finnish Air Force (Ilmavoimat) encountered a mechanical malfunction in Lithuanian air space and landed at an abandoned air field near Panevėžys.

The personnel immediately engaged in combat and secured Panevėžys Air Base within a matter of minutes after the declaration of war. As a matter of facts Finland is currently deploying reinforcement to that area in order to secure the entire region.
"It is a very bad idea to declare war on a nation which just landed an aircraft on your territory" says a government spokesman of Finland "Especially if this airplane carries lots of highly motivated combat experienced men".

According to Russian Air Space Control "a fast moving object converged with the Finnish aircraft" moments before the pilot announced a "mechanical failure" and landed on the abandoned air field. Similar reports are to be heard of eye-witnesses of the incident. According to them Lithuanian SAM units tried to destroy the Finnish aircraft by launching missiles. The house of A. Aldgcaviasas has been hit by the remains of a Lithuanian SAM. "First there was a noise like a distant explosion and then something fell onto the roof of my house and in the garden while I was eating dinner." he reports. "I called the police but they were only interested in Finnish people - strange behavior..."

The Fennoscandian is in possession of these objects and forwarded them to the Norwegian Etterretningtjenesten for further analysis. It seems, however, the surface to air missiles used by the Lithuanian army are of Polish origin.

In a telephone interview one of the stranded Finnish soldiers told the Fennoscandian "We heard a loud explosion and the aircraft was shaking. It felt like an earthquake. The pilot then announced he would have to land the plane as he was encountering problems with the engines.
Minutes after we got out of the plane our head quaters informed us we had been declared war upon by Lithuania. So we took our chances and secured the airfield. Instead of getting us out reinforcement was sent in and the co-pilot who suffered minor injuries during the emergency landing was taken back to Helsinki."
Asked about the current situation he explained "We are making good progress and have been able to push the front lines several kilometers off the airport. Lithuanian military seems to be unprepared."
