A Good Man Is Hard To Find (Mandatory listening)
Day 2564 of the New World
27 November, 2014

Ladies and Gentlemen of eUSA, I would like to introduce you to the man I am hoping you will elect to be your next President.

Meet Deepchill.

Having played this game by his side for the last two years or so, I’ve learned a lot about him. One of the things I’ve learned is that he is not going to toot his own horn. And since he’s not much of a writer/publisher, I am betting that few of you really know who he is. Which kind of sucks, because he is one fine human being, and he plays this game the way it ought to be playe😛 community first.

So since I don’t expect him to be running the same kind of media campaign for PoTUS that other hopefuls have done in the past, I want to offer my meager gifts for writing and tell you about Deepchill.

I’ll begin with some biography.

As you can tell by his profile, DC (as we in EZC like to call him) began the game in March of 2010. These were the glory days of V1, and the impending dissonance brought on by V2 was still a speck on the horizon. eRepublik was less than 2 years old and passions were running high around the eWorld. The active population of eUSA was almost 4 times larger than it is now. And so when DC saw his Real Life friend fighting in some terribly important battle in some badass game, he was intrigued and signed up.

And like most new American players at that time, he ended up in the eUS Training Corps under then CO Angelini.

The official military of the eUS Government was a conglomerate of Military Units collectively known as the JCS – short for “Joint Chiefs of Staff”. The JCS was actually a fourth branch of the US Government for a time, and as such they wielded quite a bit of political power, though they made a fairly loud show of keeping their members out of Congress. Anyway, they were a well-organized bunch, so after DC graduated Training Corps, he joined the JCS MU called “Mobile Infantry” while he gained his strength and rank ingame. Strength was built up pretty slowly in those days.

Eventually he was moved into the “eUS Army” – another JCS branch. This is where he was when V2 hit. For those who never played during V2, despite what you may have heard about it being a disaster, there were many great things about it. One of the biggest differences between V2 and today’s game was the battlefield dynamics. V2 rolled out with a grid-based system which forced militaries to rely heavily on coordinated systems. DC excelled in this because he is personally wired for teamwork and cooperation.

And as (then) General Bombonato recognized his talents, he was asked to join a more elite (JCS) unit called "US Cavalry Ranger”. There he served under Avruch and Alexander Auctoritas – two Citizens who still play the game today.

But the US Cavalry Ranger Unit did not last long, and when it was closed down the best players were invited to join the eMarines – again still part of the JCS. And so Deepchill spent the first year of his eRep career as a soldier wearing the official stripes of the US Military.

Then on day 1231 or 1232 all hell broke loose. The JCS was playing a power game with the other branches of Government, particularly Congress. If nothing else, this became the moment that would determine the course of a lot of important Citizens. Some would dig in their heels and permanently ostracize themselves from political relevance. Others would recognize the errors that were made on both sides and look for ways to integrate into the changing environment.

The worst part of it all, from many players’ perspective, was that some of the people in JCS leadership were forcing the rank and file members to choose… it was “us or them”. Among those who didn’t appreciate being treated that way was a player who went by the name of Sir Valero Volcrum (since changed to Alexander Valkor II). He chose to form an MU called Hell Jumpers which was a way to navigate through the tumult. Deepchill joined up with the Hell Jumpers and just kept fighting for eUSA. It would take many months for the fallout from the JCS split to finally “blow over”.

As a new set of Military Units developed into the official eUS Armed Forces, Plato was also busy making changes to the game, particularly in the way Military Units functioned. It eventually became clear that a “catch-all” MU needed to be developed where new Citizens could be directed. The eUS Civilian Military Unit was the answer, and it was to be Commanded by the Country President.

During one of Oblige’s terms, Deepchill found his way into the eUS CivMU, again because that was where most of the new players wound up and DC wanted to be involved in new player development. He helped Oblige get that unit organized and was partly responsible for its long success.

Meanwhile, I was working to grow Easy Company, and I had noticed that Deepchill had moved into the CivMU where he was putting up pretty big damage numbers on a daily basis. I knew that I would some day want to replace myself with someone who shared my commitment to friendliness, community development, inclusiveness, and excellent gameplay. Eventually I succeeded in recruiting him to EZC, and it was the single best thing I ever did for EZC.

Eventually I did step down as Commanding Officer of EZC and with the support of (ironically) Angelini, I was able to hand the unit over to him. Now I know I was a good CO, and 99% of anyone who ever served with me will probably agree with that. But I would be shocked if every single one of those same people who appreciated my leadership wouldn’t say that Deepchill is a BETTER leader than I was. At least that’s how I see it.

Deepchill has a fantastic eye for recruiting new people into EZC leadership positions. He has not made a single personnel mistake yet. He has an incredible way of leading his officers into working together on important decisions. He recognizes a great idea when he sees it and is very gracious in giving credit where credit is due.

Under Deepchill’s leadership, Easy Company has matured into an incredibly efficient, proud, and powerful destructive force that is respected by players around the eWorld.

And you should know that when I was President, Deepchill was my absolutely closest advisor with whom I shared every detail of my work. He has seen first-hand what is involved in being President. He was one of my key International liaisons with Sirius (when we were in that alliance) and learned his way into Military Strategy as NSC Director. There isn’t a single reason why he shouldn’t be our President.

So in bullet point format, here’s what I know to be true about Deepchill:

~100% loyal to eUSA
~Expert leader among people
~Experienced in and out of Government
~Respectful to all eCitizens
~Actively interested in developing future leaders
~Successful in every endeavor he has made
~Not that much of a writer, doesn’t pump his own jock
~Always has a plan
~Recognizes when someone else’s version of the plan is better
~Nicest guy I have ever known in this game
~Has an nonpartisan approach to all Political Parties

But perhaps the greatest testimony to Deepchill’s awesomeness is going to be the HOST of support you will see him get in the comments section of this article from members of every political party. I truly believe that Deepchill is the perfect President for eUSA.

I can’t wait to vote Deepchill on December 5th.
