Yeah, I know. That's not really what he said. This Wikipedia article explains why. It's just that the supposed translation makes me smile nonetheless. It is also a good example of how words get twisted around and meaning perverted to suit someone's purpose.
Democracy v Dictator
If you watched the short video, JFK is addressing West (free) Berlin but really speaking to the Soviets who controlled East Berlin and also surrounded the allied sectors controlled by the US, UK and France. He mentions that "freedom has many difficulties" and "Democracy is not perfect". He continues saying, "we have never had to put up a wall to keep our people in" (referring to the Berlin Wall).
So Democracy is preferred... And then here comes eRep's twisted version. Without going into great detail, Democracy sucks in this game. Don't believe me? Ask all the countries that decided to take a "wait and see" attitude when the new improvement was put into play. Within a week those countries were violently taken over or barely escaped intact and quickly adopted dictatorship. The few that did not do a dictator based government are the very strongest nations and are generally the ones terrorizing the little guys. It's like a combination wipe and PTO rolled into one.
The elected Canadian government (at the time) made the decision within hours to proceed with a domestic dictatorship to avoid a violent take over. There didn't seem to be any time to waste and this was quickly proven by others that waited too long. Your Democratically elected government protected you but now we had to deal with the dictator game mechanics. I get it that people don't like those game mechanics and neither do I. As far as I'm concerned, killing the political mod has ruined what was left of the game.

Now that we have liberated ourselves many are opposed to running back to the dictator scheme. Like I said above, I'm not fond of the idea myself but looking at the situation a dictatorship is the only logical recourse given current game mechanics. Either we do it to ourselves or have someone that doesn't like us very much try a coup. (Albania or Fyrom spring to mind.)
What's the difference you say? Lots. The dictatorship that we just came out of was never implemented the way it was proposed. I don't wish to debate Rylde's intentions or decisions. I'm not interested in what was promised or what actually transpired during his dictatorship. That's in the past. What I am interested in is what was initially proposed buy those pesky people that were running things when the shit hit the fan.
What To Do?
This Monday, a little after 08:00 eRep time, there will be a coup started by myself. klop, our current elected CP, has backed this move as a reasonable recourse to protect ourselves from a violent dictatorship. Pickle's Patriots will be the initiating MU, Captains of Industry commanded by Goran Thrax and Canadian Armed Forces commanded by Xichael will be supporting (along with others I'm sure). I will be dictator to get a medal by agreement. I will only be poking the buttons as the duly elected CP instructs and will not impede his/her leadership in any way.
When I'm done collecting my medal I will turn over command of Pickle's to whoever is CP, this will make them dictator. The MU will no longer be controlled by me but by the elected CPs, ownership will be the Canadian government. As far as I understand, Congress shall propose and vote on items on the forum and their decisions will be passed on to the CP/dictator whose responsibility is to follow through with his one vote to carry out Congresses will. In effect a pseudo Democracy will be set up to work around game mechanics. FWIW, this was the plan all along, our former dictator didn't like that plan once he was in power.
Which Leads To...
Not exactly what I had in mind when seeking retirement, but whatever. Speaking on the cabinet PM (I'm vCP BTW), it was suggested that I would be most likely to have the time to be CP in June. People like to do things as the weather gets nice and since I have no life I agreed. Nothing will change much except klop and I will switch seats. Considering Canadians on both sides will be broke and the Treasury has already been vacuumed dry to keep Canada's money away from the greedy moose (ahem) I look for someone to AS or NE us post haste. Likely klop will take the fall and (if I'm CP) I'll inherit an impending wipe. But hey, that's life in the great white north!

Atleast be honest that klop has sold the country to you for a month as theres no reason you need to be dictator at all. The govt is being hypocritical so we will indeed break the nation with a civil war.

The real reason for having the CP also be dictator is still the same. If anything it is even more obvious now that we've been playing with the dictator update for awhile. Medium to small countries that don't install their own dictators are attacked by their enemies. Your saying it's not necessary is a nice try to obscure why you are opposed. You should just 'fess up and admit you want to be perma-dictator. 😃
I'm alright with heading back to a democracy letting people get there congress medals and returning some activity. Ireland is doing it and is smaller than us.
I don't understand. The whole reason behind you starting the Coup was that it was going to be your swansong. You were going to throw everything you had it, get a Dictator medal, and quit the game.
That's why you were chosen to lead the Coup in the first place.
Now when you have a fairly realistic chance to actually win, you've suddenly found the time and interest to be CP for a month afterwards?

keep democracy and see if you even win before stating you'll be switching seats. Or do you need to have a dictatorship in place to guarantee yourself that power.

It being suggested (once again people urging you into something just like your global fans wanting you to be a dictator) you should stay on and run for CP after you're Dictator doesn't mean you need to take it.
The whole point of a grand finale is that it's just that. You set off your fireworks, you enjoy the show, then you exit stage left.
If your true intention was to retire you would do just that.
But no. Once again the "Invisible Cabal" has convinced you to make a grab for glory.
Also just to clear the air, I don't want a Dictator at all. I support Democracy.
