Hat off to Ranger Bob

Day 1,825, 22:01 Published in Australia Australia by Chris Carnage

It's amazing what eAustralia can do when we put our mind to it.

Ranger Bob's term as CP has been a breath of fresh air. Personally I was a little sceptical when ranger announced his candidacy. An old fart like ranger, thought I, what has he left to offer? Have we really reached the bottom of the cookie jar already?

How wrong I was! Ranger's term has been all about bringing eAustralia together, and I'm amazed at what we can accomplish when we work together as a community. So many times in the past we've been guilty of fighting each other with more vigour than we've fought our real enemies. But over the past few weeks I've seen an eAustralia I haven't known for a very long time.

There are some obvious manifestations of this. We've won regions back against eChile, a nation 10 times our size. We managed to wrest back control of the Australian National Party despite the best efforts of PTOers. But what is more impressive to me are the intangible signs.

The media is once more buzzing with activity, not full of vitriole and bile but of hope, pride and commonsense advice. People reaching out to other members of the community rather than sniping and mud-slinging. My shout box is full of constructive suggestions, jokes and messages of patriotism and hope, people working together rather than conspiring against each other.

What a change we've seen in a short, few weeks. What a community we have become, and what a legacy Ranger will leave.

I have placed a lot of emphasis here on Ranger, but I'm sure he would agree that the real champion here is the community. All it has taken is a circuit-breaker, a person who would put themselves above the politics of personality and party-political machinations. A person who put the community first and second and their clique a distant third.

The sole and basic source of our strength is the solidarity of workers, peasants and the intelligentsia, the solidarity of the nation, the solidarity of people who seek to live in dignity, truth, and in harmony with their conscience.
Lech Walesa

Congratulations Ranger Bob. I celebrate the contribution you have made to eAustralia - a community once more! We have hope, but we have a long way to go.
