Candidate for ULJ Party President

Day 2,732, 22:56 Published in Japan Japan by Sophia Forrester

Hello, everyone!

My name is Sophia and I am a candidate for Party President of the United Lolies of Japan.

Today all Japan is at a crossroads. In the past month, we have stepped down the path of war, of coup and dictatorship. People from all parties and all corners of the country have fought for one dictatorship or the other. Now we have a dictatorship declared by the winning faction with no end in sight.

It doesn't have to be this way. We don't need to split our country apart, drawing lines in the sand and taking power by force. For months, all five major parties worked together to benefit eJapan. At some point we allowed that cooperation to end, and it has not yet been rebuilt. Yet there is still hope. The bridge to an even brighter future waits for us to build it with our own hands.

I support a negotiated settlement between the two factions of the civil war. This may not be easy, and it may not happen right away. However, what is needed first is for the sides to start talking again to one another. If chosen to be Party President, I will speak to all parties and do my very best to unite us as one country, with no groups left out.

To build a united country after months of schism, we must work together. Furthermore, we will do more honor to democracy by practicing democracy in all we do ourselves. I want to revive the old tradition of the ULJ voting each month on whom to endorse for President. I also hope to hold a primary election on the eRepublik site that will determine in what order our ULJ Congress candidates are ranked. If we are to truly care for our democracy, let us attend first to our own actions, and from there the Way will come naturally. And to those who might say that our next Congress has little meaning as long as the Dictatorship holds power, I say, democracy is more vital when it is only a symbolic act. The form of an election is a ritual. From ritual comes belief, and from belief, power.

I also thank Dungeon Master and Tarasino for running against me, providing the ULJ with the first democratic choice we have had in several months. I hope that Sinon will remain Vice President of the ULJ if I am elected, and I look forward to working with her and with everyone to build the path we will travel. I wish outgoing Party President Hideyoshi Nicolas the best of luck in his new role as Secretary-General of Orion. May the best Loli win, and may the rising sun always smile on eJapan.
