Canadian Political Classes
piggy sev
I've been in Canada for two weeks now. One of the things that I noticed is that there is a huge gap between the political elite and the rest of Canada. Congress seems to be either not doing anything or doing something behind the scenes. As of now there are no government programs that need managing. The only thing that Congress seemed to have done is sign two MPPs (Switzerland&China) and some commie troll put up for a vote a war against Spain.
For the past week I have been quite active with the Academy. A number of other people became active within in as well, yet not one out of 40 congressmen even bothered to wonder what's going on with it.
This lack of communication creates two classes within the eCanadian society, one that is completely politically isolated and one that constantly rotates the same people within the gov't. This creates two political classes, those who blindly vote, not knowing who or what they are voting, and those who have everything predetermined already.... The biggest problem that we are facing currently is a lack of competent and active people. Even those few who are active cannot grow more competent in eCanadian affairs, because nobody knows what is going on.
Hence I propose the creation of a National Information Agency within the President's office. It should report at least once every 4 days what is going on within Congress and the President's Office. If needed be, the person in charge of it can be a hired worker.
Also, I saw someone assemble a video new report in Ukraine about a year or two ago, where the text was entered and the robot spoke it. I believe a similar cool tool can be used in Canada, although it is not necessary.

Canadian (and eRep) Politics 101:
1. Brown nose to the elites; or
2. Don't bother.
You do realize all the information on what Congress is doing (excepting CDC) is freely available for any eCanadian citizen to view, right?
You have been in Canada for little over a week and somehow feel like you are entitled to change everything to the way that you like it.
and how is any new Canadian suppose to know that? Who is going to go specifically to the forums? The core problem is that the country is facing a big demographic problem, and yes I do want to completely change that.
Some of us have a history of pointing out that the forums are not for everyone, but the status quo remains.
I think that new citizens are overwhelmed by all of the elements to eRepublik, hence telling them to go to an additional, plus external source would be too much on their platter. Then they forget about it, nobody reminds them and they become inactive or just leave.
What Kozak said above is true, I remember my first few months playing here, the forums were definitely not what drew me in. In fact, they pushed me away really, until I got involved here.
Besides pointing it out, what have you proposed to actually change the status quo, Foxfire?
First a good "welcome" message to new citizens would include a reference to the forum just so that everyone is aware it is there.
Second a good training element would offer more than just game mechanics info. There should be a section available to educate any interested n00b about the forums use and the activity that could be available there. Not all new players MUST jump immediately into politics, nor should they. Uninformed, boisterous "look at me" politicking is distracting and can cause harm. Mentors in the form of political party members are quite useful to indoctrinate new people into the system.
Coming from one of the most "elite" ridden eGovernments (the US) I've learned how to play the meta-game. As in real life, change rarely occurs by a coup d'état but by a slow, progressive change within the government itself. In other words change from within.
Too the ppl, by the ppl, for the ppl. - Ab Lincon
inb4 you go ahead with this project, tell everybody you "completed" it after 3 days and leave the country
It's a proposal.....
" yet not one out of 40 congressmen even bothered to wonder what's going on with it."
I am a congressman and I did 😛
Also the forums are quite open for players interested in the going on's of congress, but only Open Door Congress (ODC) aka boring stuff is available to see. There would be no point (in my belief at least) in informing players on the pointless bickering. All the cool stuff is hidden, for obvious reasons.
As for the CP, well they usually provide updates every couple days. All other departments do as well, albeit mine is a little behind as of late, my apologies. All a citizen has to do is ask, if all else fails.
Now to address the classes bit. While I do agree there is some class-ism in eCanada it really is not that bad. All it takes is an active citizen wanting to do something (like yourself) and getting involved. I've been MoD here for quite a while and it's not like I've had much competition for my job let alone applications for a deputy position.
You do have a point though, it is a two way street, perhaps we can look at this Information Agency as a starting point for just that. Good luck!
SOrry I though you were just a minister 🙂
"Only a fool can criticize something that he doesn't know about lol."
That reminds you of something?
Completely different situations. Remastered, where were you when I was looking for officers for the Academy? Where were you when I was looking for donations?
I told you to ask if you needed something, you didn't...
Also the situation is different only when it fits you it seems, coz you clearly have no clue what you're talking about, since you didn't even know about the forums
Remastered, where do you think I read the Canadian Constitution and the charters? Once again you had no clue, and you accused..... In your case you could have simply helped out or joined the efforts and had known for yourself. In my case, there was no way of knowing, because if you go on Klop's account it clearly states Minister of Defense....
Klop also got banned for multis once.. You two might be brothers... Or the same person... Dun dun dunnn
@Pat: Klop sounds different, i.e. different writing style.
Usually when I read text to myself, it's read in my own voice, but if I'm familiar with someone's style, the text is read in their voice. This usually occurs with friends' written pieces and with authors I am extremely familiar with, and occasionally with people in eRep too.
Actually, now that I read it again, Kozak does resemble Beorn with a twinge of Oinyo and Foxfire.
I'm pretty sure this guy is new to Canada. I don't know any old players who speak a language that has a Cyrillic alphabet.

Everything in eRepublik has a learning curve, the social aspects are also part of it. Citizens should be free to go at their own pace entrenching themselves what they want to do or what they don't want to do.
It took me a month or two after joining to find my way on the forums, about two years to join a party taking part in a few internal party affairs and another year to join in public/national politics. These were all my decisions to be involved in parties and politics, and forums, rather than an impairment on the accessibility of resources.
If the accessibility of resources is limited, then there is a problem, but if it is a limited effort on the part of the player, it is by their own choice to NOT be involved. It takes time for people to be involved, to learn and, above all, be outside their comfort zone. I find that those that wish to be engaged, will find a way to be engaged, whether it would be asking questions, talking to someone, or writing an article.
Regarding the government communication, CP articles or [albeit usually biased] articles from congress and party members would include important summaries effecting eCanadians.
Voted twice, for repetition 😛
The CSRF attack detected makes me do that >:
I was talking more about Congress....
Down with the bourgeois Up with the proletariat
😃
The forum seems be still active. I used to visit it daily, but apathy got me. I had a good time thought
Enjoy! https://ecanada.cc/forums/viewforum.php?f=40
"As of now there are no government programs that need managing." This is deliberate. There is great distrust (unfortunately not without reason) in the government to run programs effectively so for a long, long time it has been decided programs should be run independently by those who want to put the time and money into it. This is usually through MUs and parties but we've also seen the occasional non-partisan charity.
So why do you expect Congressmen to be asking you about your private, non-government initiative? Moreover, if you think communicating with them is important, why didn't you contact them all directly? Do you think your initiative deserves special attention, perhaps even favour, from government and if so, why?
This dichotomy you propose between political elites and the isolated is an interesting one. A counterargument that can and has been made is that if you want to, you can stop being isolated by joining the forums as have thousands of players before you.
I read all of the Forums lol
See, that wasn't so hard then was it?
I guess you're more into reading than writing, though, as I don't think I've seen you make any comments there (at least under this name) nor have you answered and of my questions above that I assume you also read.
see my next article 🙂
It's better to run some programs with flaws in them, then not to run them at all. It's actually kind of strange for me to see that eCanada doesn't have any gov't programs, because in RL you guys are big on that lol.
Perhaps you are right about me communicating them directly. I was a bit caught up spamming hundreds of noobs to join the Academy and training new officers.
The reason that i DO in fact think that this program does deserve a special attention and a favor, because I'm not doing it for myself, and would like to transfer the Academy into the government's hands. Also, it is the only initiative to retain new players and reverse the demographic situation.
You've been here two weeks, have only been operating your MU for a few days and can already come to that conclusion? Let's give it two months and we'll see how many people who have joined up aren't dead. High attrition rates are just expected in this game.
Again, though, we have programs. They're just privately run by parties and MUs. None of them get (or even ask) for special treatment.
I could be convinced that something like this should be government run, I just haven't been yet.
We shall see.
I see that Kozak wants everyone else to do everything. Jump and dance to his tune. I also notice that he wants others to PAY for these programs that he only suggests but does not initiate. Before I make any firm conclusions I will give him time to actually do something. Until then this is all a bunch of hot air.
To his credit, he did start an MU with the purpose of getting new players involved with the community. At least that's what I read. I don't know what that means in practice so far in terms of actually helping these players out other than giving them some donated donations and finding them jobs (a difficult task in this game 😛).
Maybe he's already started sending them out links to resources or is teaching them about the game via PM. Or maybe it is just hot air and he does want everyone else to do the work (that many already do).
But I agree, it's definitely too early to say that he's accomplished much.
Takes 40 gold to buy a MU if you don't ask around and find a used one cheap. I came to Canada with our MU set up and ready to go, with Q7 communes and people who do stuff. Currently updating our training material and planning on recruiting new players to help build Canada. I just don't toot my own horn so nothing has really been said as I'd like to be ready to go and of course we need to talk to other MU's to explain what we do. When we train people they are free to choose what MU and political party they will join. The only catch is that they must continue the tradition of charity and good will. All Pickle's live by the creed "We are honest, trustworthy and dependable."

Actually I take back what I had just said. F*ck congress.

Canada seems to move at it's own speed.
"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" George W. Lincoln
I remember when I first started, it was hard to jump into things because I was new and didn't know much, but I had lots of great help, starting out in the CAF. I then became politically active within the CPF too. I did not become Commander of the largest MU or PP of the Moosest Party because someone held my hand and led me to the top. Individuals have to step up and take it for themselves.
Programs to help out players are awesome, and very much needed, so I salute you on your efforts here, but ultimately the decision for a player to become more active and involved comes down to themselves. We can try to encourage a healthy community as much as we can, but this is a game, and at times, I even question calling it that...

Who is George W. Lincoln who was quoting the famous line from JFK's inaugural address.
Politics are dead. The real strength lies in the communes and MU's. Without taxpayers and a military, virtual regions fall. And, while that may be sad to some of the people who live vicariously through their eRep avatars, the vast majority are not impacted. We continue to earn supplies, build strength, and hit the fight button regardless of what little flag icon happens to render next to our profile name.
There are no countries in eRep and therefore no national pride. The sooner people get that, the better. The game loses way too many new players who are turned off because of some perceived nationalism.
Regarding national pride I disagree lol. You have to know other countries a bit, especially European ones.
