Austral-American Mutual Protection Pact
ColinAndrage
The USA Dictatorship has approved the renewal of the Australian Mutual Protection Pact with a single vote, just a few days before Australia also renewed its Mutual Protection Pact with Canada. It's important to have our friends making friends with our old friends in a new world, considering how often war takes place between old friends. Australia will be a useful friend for USA, despite being so far away from them and us. It's also very important for Australia's survival, since foreigners creep closer and closer to their shores and might see Australia as a place for refugees. This Mutual Protection Pact and detention camps on Christmas Island (‘tis the season) decrease the chance from that thing from ever happening to Australia, and increases our chances of learning how to detain our Albanian Visitors somewhere offshore near the Atlantic Provinces. GooseNews says good luck for continuing friendly relations between Australia and Canada and USA.

How are refugees a bad thing for Australia?
In eRepublik, there are no real refugees, just visitors and those officially applying for immigration. So it's not a bad thing at all here.
However, in the actual world, Australia seems plenty concerned about the numbers of refugees arriving on its shores. They've even built a large detention center on Christmas Island to process/detain them. Some of the reasons for this may be:
--there's too many refugees to handle by regular means
--a detention center discourages more refugees from coming (see Germany as a counter-example to this)
--most refugees are too poor to apply for immigration legally and require alternative means for handling their arrival
--Australians just don't want to pay for full social assistance for new arrivals with their tax dollars
--Australians don't want an influx of refugees to affect crime levels or their liberal democratic values
I don't blame Australia for its concerns , just like I don't blame Europe for similar worries either. Canadians, however, are isolated from these refugee issues and can pick and choose how many it will let across its borders. How fortunate...meanwhile, Australia has to handle a rather tricky situation:

Albanian invaders, on the other hand, can be given the boot because it is just a game.

Andrej is a legit newb working hard to understand the game and find his niche within in. I, on the other hand, am not but can only aspire to emulate Andrej's earnestness.
