I have noticed that a lot of people (including myself) dislike the names they have chosen for their eCitizen but have played for long enough to not want to delete their account just for a different name.
So, what I would like to suggest is for a way to change a citizens name. I realize that people may use this feature to get away from being reported or scamming other players. So that's why there could be requirements to changing a citizens name.
For example:
- A Player must NOT have ANY penalty points to change a name
- The Citizens previous name will be shown on their profile page for at least three months
- A Citizen must pay a fee of 20 gold (to keep people from constantly changing their name)
- Using the service inappropriately can result in a permanent ban
I think this would be a great thing to put into eRepublik as it would not only deter people from quitting, but also keep people happy 😛

IMHO 20g is just a tad too much, 10-15 would be better. But yes, overall it's a great idea. I know a lot of people who wish they'd put more though into their names before they joined, like myself. Anyway, you've got my support and I hope that this can go international!

Voted, but 20 gold. Any less and its that much easier for the bigger players to keep changing names.

Also, a permanent list of previous names should be kept. That would assist in troll/pto/****head alert.
great idea m8, a possible add-on is your only allowed to request a namechange every 2 months or maybe more.
@Ryan Gross, I agree, while it may take a while for somebody to save up 20G it would be worth it in the end, if it takes too long to save 20G if may be easier to wait or delete your account.

Not a bad idea. It's just that the name is so entrenched in the identity of the player that it may be something that the programmers might not want to attempt.
A profile is a number but a login is a name.
Something fair would be a really low fee for the first name change, something like 5g. For example i wouldn't mind making a REALLY small change like changing agentgreeny to Agent Greeny.
There are all sorts of possibilities.
Frex, you could require that any name with a title in it, must donate a specific amount to the enational treasury, and the title is lost whenever you change your citizenship. This would allow people to buy knighthoods etc.
Or, you could have a stock market with names up for sale!
I think it should cost the people who want to change their names but only cost 1-3 gold but if it costs more perhaps the waiting period could be shorter. I think it would be fair to have a longer waiting period for less money, maybe that could be an option.

well we are known by our citizen number, not by our usernames, and if that name is avaialble to chose then why not to go ahead with that. i think that admin should do something to sort of this thing instead of implementing the new and boring professions into game.
everyone is busy IRL so the chances are admin are making the game even more boring for the new players

i don't like the idea.It could be more useful for people that want to be forget than by people that evolve to much and do not wish to renounce at their xp.
maybe you should add to the proposal that citizens can change their name only 1 time..

YES if we have chance change name only one and admins make a list with names couldnt copy.
No , if we chance always we pay. This game have a lot possibility to provocation so we dont need this.

I do agree!I once abandoned my level 13 account to death only because I didn't like the name and I started to play all over again; while i had spent about a month playing with it.
But 20 Gold is a lot. Maybe 5 to 8 Gold would be more fair.

i think it should cost not less but a little bit more approx 25 gold!It would be a great asset to the game.

I suggested the same to the admins long time back....
they said that it might be possible to implement not in the near future.... may be after several years frm now ... \o/

Good idea. Additionally, name change would be possible only once per three monts excluding reverting to previous name fo the firs three days in case of mistake. All name change effects would then be erased, ie. if somebody wrote a message using new name, it's author's name would chande to the actual one. So no messing will be possible. And the fee will not be paid back.
But 20g is rather too much.
20 gold would drain the economy just like lana.
