It seems that today, modern japanese are not very into marriage itself, be it arranged or by free will xD They have very high expectations from their future "to be soulmates" ( it's all about money ) or at least that's what I heard/read online, and that is why today Japan's population is getting more and more older and they have decline of birth rate, not that we, western world, are in much better situation but at least we don't have ten of thousands one hundred and more years old people who are becoming economic burden and problem xDD Solution is simple, start importing strangers asap and in no time they will have baby boom xD

Yeah, they are certainly more pragmatic than they want to appear. Even though its declining, the omiai is still active precisely because of the economic and to an extent, social reasons. Keeping appearances is still very important mindset over there.

Keeping appearances will not help them forever, well it'll only help the rich families which have to save honor/appearance/social status/influence and etc., but if you look at the big ( demographic ) picture, things are far from perfect in the land of the raising sun.
