What Goes Around, Comes Around

Day 2,514, 19:25 Published in USA USA by Israel Stevens

I’m certainly not up to speed on our nation’s foreign standing, so maybe this article will be a bit out of line. But Evry made this pretty nifty Foreign Affairs Map, and it looks like we’re not really on the same side as China, so who really knows.

Anyways, I was Secretary of State for Presidents Cerb and Inwegen, as well as having two terms of my own at the helm of this nation. I don’t say that to brag, because I’m certainly the first one not to give a damn about my resume. I say it to point out that I do have a great deal of experience in foreign affairs, just not current ones.

What I’m getting at here, is that watching our allies run train on China, like she’s a cheap two dollar hooker has been extremely gratifying for me.

Seriously awesome

For every ignored PM, empty IRC channel, backroom hoop that we all had to jump through just to get someone in China to answer a damn question, this is a pretty satisfying picture.

Let me explain, for all the newfriends, or people who haven’t been involved in Foreign Affairs before.

Trying to get a response of any kind out of China was one of the most frustrating things in the game. They didn’t answer PMs, didn’t have IRC rooms and were never around to talk with you when you wanted/needed them to be. And this was all while they were a significant military power, and holder of the majority of EDEN’s communes. They were completely isolationist. And all of this, without mentioning how incredibly difficult it was to gain Citizenship.

To complicate matters, the country elected the same dude (Atracurium) to the Presidency 28 times! TWENTY EIGHT! We elected Oblige six times, and most people agree that was 4 too many.
With one dude running the show in China, there was never any change in their communication from month to month. It was just more of the same stonewalling.
The most we knew about him, was a rumour that he went to college in Canada (which was maddening because even the Great FireWall wasn’t an issue) and a few pictures of his desk from ilphen’s amazing deskism article (which has completely broken image links which is a shame all it’s own).
He and the rest of the Chinese Government were ghosts.

Perhaps things have changed. I see that Atracurium isn’t the President this month. Perhaps we have no problem getting in touch with China nowadays. But years ago, when a lot more people played and a lot more people cared about eRepublik, getting in touch with China was a Herculean task.

Watching four nations team up to attack China is a pretty great reminder that what goes around, comes around.
