Wanting and Shoulding
General Levy
This might just be a game, but people take it damn serious!
To be fair,it simulates serious subjects😛
olitics, war, economics and it has its social media side too.
It allows us to take a stance,make a difference,and virtually,literally,change 'the world'.
We can take our real world values and opinions on the subjects, and then express those ideas in the game,to and with an audience that is equally passionate and interested in the subjects dealt with in the game.
So we take our political ideals and opinions to the game, but what about our morals, and our duties.
Since this is a game, it must have rules!
And it is our 'real' duty as people,to fully obey the rules, and to show each other the same degree of respect that we show to people in person.
But I think thats it for real duties!
Our in game duties, are arguably non-existent.
Any in game duties are only there because we agree to play.If we choose not to play, the duties are gone, we are free to play or not,so we are free of those duties, making them insignificant. (Thats how I see it anyway)
Now,should we be morally conscious in eRepublik?
I think either side has a case, but first we would need to determine if we can even apply our morals in the game!
On the one hand you could say "no,its a game, even if you do something bad,its not real,so the consequences arn't real,so it's not really bad".
Then,on the other hand,we,as people, are all 'really playing' the game,so we have real responsibilities.
If we can be morally right and wrong in the game,it changes a whole lot of what we should be doing.
The game,in some cases forces us to think a certain way about issues that in real life are far from black and white.
War is the main one!
War is morally sound in the game, and the game mechanics dictate that.
It is how we progress in the game, and we are rewarded for fighting.
It's also something that,I'm fairly sure most of us 'want' to do as well.
There are no real deaths to worry about,so a lot of the ethical side of war is not a problem.
Another thing is fun,the fuel that drives us.
The lack of real consequences allows us to be far more selfish which makes things fun.
Change and controversy can be fun, even if we don't like the outcome.
It is a game we are playing!
Its single purpose is to allow us to have fun and socialise, even if we take it dead seriously.
So can doing something 'bad' in the game, that would clearly be wrong in the real world and in game world be considered a 'good' thing,if it is in the name of fun.
That is,does fun trump the in game progress, ignoring morels possibly, provided we don't ignore our duty,of keeping within the rules.
I would say that eIreland lacks some variety in its political parties ideals,in terms of what could lead to potential fun, considering there is so much inner conflict.
I'm not suggesting getting a dictatorship going, but after looking into it,most people seem to play things relatively the same way.
Which could be a good thing if we all wanted it to be.
The way the game should be played is selfishly, but selfishly as an enation, not as individuals,by doing what we want to do.
Except it seems, for that to work most efficiently, the enation needs to work as a single unified group.
It's such a pity that this, for now,can not really be said for eIreland, especially since most of our ideals are so close to each other.
We all have the same real life objective when playing the game(to have fun), and I would hope we all have the same in game objective(to enhance eIreland as much as possible), but as far as I can tell, some past arguments and personal grudges are holding us back.
As a new citizen, I have heard about eIrelands success in the past, and while we might be on the rise,I can't help but feel that some forgiving and forgetting might speed things up.
I hope this wasn't too boring,
I'm not sure what anyone could get out of this,so I apologise for wasting your time.
And also,if there is any completely naive opinions,I am sorry.(Im still new,so give us a chance)
I guess,I wrote this because it was fun for me!
It was selfish,my enjoyment😛
ossibly wasting your time.
But as far as I'm concerned it's the right way to go about things!
Peace and Love to all,
Stay lucky.

My own view is that erep is a social game, so morals are paramount. Bad behaviour has consequences.
We had a lot more political conflict in the past.
Thanks for an interesting and thought provoking article. Not something I say often 🙂 We need more players like you, General Levy.
Conflicts here has nothing to do with politics james....
Its simply honourable with integrity against thieves with zero integrity.
It's egood vs eevil......
Some like CLerics demands transparency of irish money, integrity of irish governments and blood of british heretics..
Some like your ordo hereticus are in total opposite of that...
Speaking of things that have nothing to do with politics, until you get yourself a mandate, you're just a guy shouting at the television.
I...don't...do..politics...
Don't....care...about...politics....
I fight parasites of ireland and heretics eworld wide...
i dont run for congress or CP neither i seek any government position.
I demand info on missing 7000 golds and full financial report..
And i pray those infos will prove me wrong in all accounts....
But alas appleman refusing to give infos i demand only proves me right.
Your Ordo with Nogin and company trying to prevent any info leak about missing 7000 golds only prove me right....
its very naive to say a person should have a political mandate to speak his mind. In our country we have heavy interest groups that think nothing of dragging the government to court etc. they have no political mandate but do provide a necessary input. what about an article explaining how you were funded by government or atleast what your vested interest is.
You're just knocking down a straw man of your own making there. I never said that only elected people have the right to speak. You yourself are living proof of the fact that everyone has the right to say pretty much anything. What you don't have is the right to be taken seriously until you have earned it.
There is a difference between the exercise of governance and pointless bellowing from someone seeking only to be at the centre of attention. So when I say that there was more political conflict in the past, I'm not thinking about anything that originates from you two. I'm talking about serious players who had competing visions of eIreland and who tested those ideas by seeking a mandate.
It is narcissistic to think that someone with no mandate can set themselves up as a one man opposition, throwing lies and innuendo at people who make an actual contribution, ^ , and then make "demands" of these same people who, frankly, have better things to do.
I note the pair of you have yet to produce any evidence to back up your ongoing assertion that I received State support to build my portfolio of companies.
read your first paragraph saying interest group should not be taking serious and government officials should be. Just emphasis my statement. You tried to deflect in the next paragraphs. Fact is you supplied up to 1000 Q7 WEPS in many DOD article that signifies you are a supplier and should declare your interest fully. iF NOT?? why not one can only speculate.
mmm needed more krakken.
Jesus, I don't know if it was thought provoking, hopefully it was even a little bit.
I wasn't happy with it when I wrote it,but thanks anyway James Keiller.

Well, you do know that some of us have crappy menial jobs & eRep is the actual reality here.
Of course things get taken seriously 🙁
Still its a good article : )
And also, remember that rage against RtK gets an Irishmans blood up & makes them fight even harder for Ireland's wealth & freedom \o/
Agree with the article...some here indeed finds this game as actual real life and often acts as it is their rl persona involved.
For example we Clerics took a moral role and we annoy some people here with demands of transparency of irish money...as result we get attacked, framed and lied about from those individuals we like to call Orcs mostly coz they can't abuse us and troll us to edeath or out of ecountry as they did with those before us...
A player AD31 demanded certain answers in irish congress and was involved in arguing with some of the orcs...
Some days later he recieved a death threath on mail he used to register to this game...and he did not share this mail with anyone..
We also had in the past people being threatened to be stabbed or their rl families being killed only coz they objected to certain illegal INGAME actions...
It is perfectly legit any player plays a role of a villain just like it is perfectly legal to play a role of hero like Clerics do...
But some creatures here simplycant stand being opposed.....spoiled brats in rl come to my mind.
I would agree with most of what you have said.
One challenge we have is that, with no external enemy, our society tends to turn inward and go back to fighting over who's granny screwed whom's goat decades ago. You'll see a lot of screaming and fuss about the past. That tends to mess up the current situation, but those involved will not care. They are more interested in keeping their goats for themselves.
creepy guy in Seinfeld. Louise Why are your door always open. Aint you afraid someone will walk in by accident. creepy guy :Yes thats what im hoping for. Rage against Krakken is futile one cannot beat a sea creature capable of controlling all elements concurrently. Its like Rage against the machine . its like trying to beat that damn indomitable gauls.
