Victory over FYROM - How it Happened.

Day 2,880, 19:58 Published in USA USA by Gnilraps

Dear eUSA,

It's Over.

But before I begin, I want to ask you all to open this article in another tab so you can read it when you are finished reading what I’ve written below. Thanks. Now on to tonight’s letter:

You cannot imagine what it is like to have a major military confrontation land in your lap within literally the first minutes of taking over as CP/D.

Normally the first day of a term is spent yukking it up, getting access set, helping new folks get oriented, cleaning out the messes left in the toilets by the previous administration… that sort of thing. (Note to Aramec - I haven’t even gone IN there yet it smells so bad. Please send someone to take care of that. What were you eating anyway???)

But not this October 6th.

Before the paint had dried on my fancy new burnt sienna Dictator Stripe, I was told to declare an NE against MKD, a nation with fierce pride and powerful allies. I would be properly debriefed later, I was told.

No big deal, thought I, I’ll click the button.

Well let me tell you. That started the 48 hour (or less) countdown on what would either be a very serious military conflict or else a mere rattling of swords (if I decided to vote “No” on the NE).

Did I mention that October 6th was also my real life birthday? As I went out to dinner with my wife (we ate at a very swanky Brazillian Steak House where they just keep bringing delicious meats to your table and slicing them onto your plate), I was thinking about MKD. Shame on me. We didn’t even end up having Birthday sex.

Well something had to come, and it ended up being the new morning, October 7th. And with the dawn came the clear sense that if I didn’t get organized with the NSC, we could have a major screwup on our hands. So I called the team into our fancy new war room on Slack, and the marathon planning session began. (Team: Jude, MrCarey, YUI, TDK, Jakal, Oblige, Hale, and some Rainy and Artela action)

For literally 10 hours we batted around every possible scenario including the following:

1 - back off and cancel the whole thing.
2 - attack, but in a friendly way, calling the entire affair a “training war”.
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 - a myriad of different solutions for engaging and winning.

Ultimately we picked #6.

But at some point during that evening’s slumber, maybe it was in a dream, I realized that #7 was a better option than #6. So with about an hour to go before the first battle was launched, we made the last minor changes to our strategy and…

ATTACKED.(Ultimately that article was removed because I used a naughty word)

And the reverbations of that first mini-battle are still resounding. It was an impressive display of MKD’s allied domination in the lower Divisions while USA’s allied force captured D4. Already, though, MKD’s big tanking party (celebrating their anniversary) along with our desperate answer had produced Epic rounds in those lower Divisions.

So we spent the next few rounds focusing on pushing for epic D4’s, letting the lower Divisions alone, trying to prevent them from going Epic.

There is a certain thrill that comes from watching the “new” eRepublik battle page during an Epic round. The battle for New Brunswick had MANY such thrills.

Allies began to send me Private Messages with advice and support. Military Units approached me offering their damage for our cause. It was a day-long, massively intense struggle as eUSA slowly crawled out of the hole that MKD had put us into with its low-end power.

I myself managed to tank out close to 5 Billion over 8 hours.

But it wasn’t just me.

Members of VMA-214 The Black Sheep, War Inc, Bear Cav, USAF, and of course America’s gem - Easy Company were clearly all in. Asterian allies, Pacifica allies… Greeks, Portuguese, Argentines, Latvians, Slovenians… and more all came to hit for the eventual victors.

If you contributed any damage at all in this conflict, on either side, you have my thanks (as well as your share of the considerable cash that was being thrown down on both sides!). It is battles like this that remind us all why eRepublik is the fun game it is.

But if you contributed damage to eUSA, you have more than my thanks. You have my admiration, respect, and gratitude for helping me do the only thing I ever make room for, WINNING.

That’s right, we won.

We cleared MKD out of New Brunswick, then after a night’s sleep, we entered the Canadian Resistance in Prince Edward Island with MKD ahead by about 35 points. We knew that if Canada won PEI, our conflict with MKD would be over. I offered MKD an opportunity to bow out by pulling themselves out of Canada quietly. They refused. So my choice was to win PEI. Doing so would cut the eventual cost of this conflict considerably, and it is my goal to spend as little of our nation's reserve as possible.

So my exact words to the team: “Failure is not an option.”

They didn’t really need to be told. They hunkered down, sent yet two more D4 Battles into Epic, and rallied Canada from 35 points down to a rousing victory.

I know MKD appreciated the support they got from Hungary, Chile, Bulgaria, some Thais, and the rest of their stack. Surely they will publish their thanks.

But to the leaders, soldiers, politicians, strategists, and tanks of MK😨 I tip my hat.

And I hope we meet again soon.

OK, now go read that article I linked at the beginning of my letter.

Sincerely your CP/D
