US launches invasion of Kyushu, UK unable to continue blocks

Day 748, 15:05 Published in USA Australia by Aeros
SUMMARY

The United States wasted little time. Minutes after the war declaration was made, the New Jersey battle was retreated and American forces launched the offensive on the Island of Kyushu. Eager British forces poured through the suddenly opened US Border, but were unable to accomplish much more then taking a few useless regions as the only way into North America dead ends with Canadian and Spanish borders.

JAPAN

Japan on its own does not have the military capability to halt a major offensive by the United States, let alone a USA backed by the major powers of EDEN. To compensate, Phoenix is almost certain to send their military forces to Japan and try to halt the American attack. Phoenix has stupidly left the back door to Asia wide open and they are going to do everything in their power to make certain that door is shut... this time permanently. This is what makes the Battle of Kyushu a do or die struggle for the United States. Another opportunity like this will not come again for months, if ever.

UNITED KINGDOM

Everyone in the EDEN camp say’s the United Kingdom is the very definition of failure in the New World. After the United Kingdom attacked Pennsylvania, which shares a border with Canada, many were quick to cheer the British failure at holding the US in place. This is a bit unfair however, since Britain really had no options left after their initial push into the USA. An unintended (perhaps intended) side effect of Spain’s invasion of France was the extension of Spanish borders along the US Eastern Seaboard. As consequence, the only way the UK could break out of New England and into the vast heartlands of North America was to skirt a region bordering either Canada or Spain. Mr. Woldy apparently decided Canada would be easier to handle then Spain and has taken Pennsylvania.

This now opens up a messy can of worms for both sides. If the UK defeats the Canadian attack in Pennsylvania, they will regain initiative and can at last launch an attack into the center of the USA where they could theoretically start running amuck. Of course, 24 hours later Canada will just attack again, but more US territory could conceivably be lost in the interim since America has proven in the past we are more then happy to sacrifice states for higher objectives. The truth is, 75% of US territory is dead weight that should not even be in the game, but the Admins have insisted America be one of just a tiny handful of countries possessing the same internal geographic borders as in real life. The only downside the US will have to these UK blocking attacks would be the distraction it would cause for US two clickers who will waste damage fighting the UK when they should be supporting the campaign in Asia.

Of course, this is assuming Canada loses in Pennsylvania. This is the UK we are talking about after all, and with their military deployed (constituting exactly 100% of the UK’s active population), Canada’s two-clickers are most likely more then enough to force the walls down. The battle is presently between the lines as of publication, and there will be time after Kyushu ends for EDEN to send support to mop up Pennsylvania if any tanking strength is available. A Canadian victory in Pennsylvania will allow them to move on into the rest of the British occupied territories and secure the US border. After this is accomplished, the US will most likely let Canada keep the regions. Canadian control will prevent the UK from blocking the USA any further, since the remaining attack options available to Britain will also border Canadian regions. This would effectively end any further annoyance from the UK.

FINAL ANALYSIS

The Battle of Kyushu is perhaps the most important battle ever fought by the EDEN Alliance. This is the first time EDEN has gone on the offensive since its conception, and winning this battle will open the Asian theater to a major EDEN presence for the first time. For their part, Phoenix will want to do everything they can to stop the Allies. East Asia has been their playground for months, and if EDEN drives all the way to High Iron in China, the Phoenix weapons industry will be gutted over night. They left the door in Kyushu unguarded and open, and they will NOT make the same mistake again. Even worse, it seems Japan will be more then happy to help Phoenix keep that door shut. This is a one shot deal. If EDEN wins, the war goes on into East Asia and things stay interesting. Even better, the Allies have a shot at dealing a body blow to Phoenix. If EDEN loses, it’s back to the drawing board once more.
