Serbia in Sports
Red.Fury
A lot of people in eUK thoughts that Serbia is bad country, well i will make some articles and try to show you our real face. First article will be about sports. We are very good in some sports and here you will be able to see that.
For start let me just tell you something about Serbia.
The Republic of Serbia is a country located at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe, covering the southern part of the Pannonian Plain and the central Balkans. Serbia borders Hungary to the north; Romania and Bulgaria to the east; Macedonia and Albania to the south;Croatia, Bosnia, and Montenegro to the west. The capital of Serbia, Belgrade, is among Europe's oldest cities and one of the largest in Southeast Europe.
Serbs established several states in the early Middle Ages following the Slavic migrations. The Serbian Kingdom obtained recognition by Rome and Constantinople in 1217; the state was elevated to the Serbian Empire, in 1346. By the mid-16th century, the entire territory of modern-day Serbia was annexed by the Ottoman Empire, at times interrupted by the Habsburgs. In the early 19th century, the Serbian revolution established the nation-state as the region's first constitutional monarchy, which subsequently expanded its territory and pioneered the abolition of feudalismin the Balkans. Following disastrous casualties in World War I, and subsequent unification of Habsburg crownlands of Vojvodina and Syrmiawith Serbia, the country co-founded Yugoslavia with other South Slavic peoples, which would exist in various formations until 2006, when Montenegro declared its independence.
So back to our subject.
Sport in Serbia revolves mostly around team sports. Among the most popular sports are football, basketball, water polo, volleyball, handball and tennis.
Football
The two main football clubs in Serbia are Red Star Belgrade and FK Partizan, both from capital Belgrade. Red Star is the only Serbian and former Yugoslav club that has won a UEFA competition, winning the 1991 European Cup in Bari, Italy. The same year in Tokyo, Japan, the club won the Intercontinental Cup. Partizan was the first team from Eastern Europe, which played in final of European Cup in 1966. Partizan is the first club from Serbia to take part in the UEFA Champions League group stages subsequent to the breakup of the Former Yugoslavia. The matches between two rival clubs are known as "Eternal Derby".
Did you know?
That the capital of Serbia had European and world champion in football before the capital of England?!

Basketball
Serbia was host of EuroBasket 2005. FIBA considers Serbia national basketball team the direct descendant of the famous Yugoslavia national basketball team. KK Partizan was the European championin 1992 with curiosity of winning the title, although playing all but one of the games (crucial quarter-final game vs. Knorr) on foreign grounds; FIBA decided not to allow teams from Former Yugoslavia play their home games at their home venues, because of open hostilities in the region. KK Partizan was not allowed to defend the title in the 1992–1993 season, because of UN sanctions. Players from Serbia made a deep footprint in the history of basketball, having huge successes = both in the top leagues of Europe and in the NBA. Serbia is one of the traditional powerhouses of world basketball, winning various FIBA World Championships, multiple Eurobaskets and Olympic medals. Darko Milicic became an NBA champion in 2004 with the Pistons, while Predrag Stojakovic did the same in 2011 with the Mavericks.

The world basketball capital of Belgrade, Serbia became the proud owner on Thursday of the single-game record for attendance at an indoor basketball game in European club history! Officially, 22,567 fans packed Belgrade Arena for the Last 16, Week 5 game between hosts Partizan and Panathinaikos of Greece.
Water Polo
Serbian capital Belgrade hosted the 2006 Men's European Water Polo Championship. The Serbia national water polo team was previously known as the Yugoslavia national water polo team. After becoming independent, Serbia have won 2006 European championship, finished as runner-up in 2008, won bronze medal at 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing and won the 2009 World championship held in Rome. VK Partizan won 7 titles of European champion and is the best European team in water polo history along with HAVK Mladost. VK Red Star won European champion in season 2012/2013. So captial of Serbia has 2 European champions in club water polo.

After becoming independent, Serbia won bronze medal at 2007 Men's European Volleyball Championship held in Moscow and gold medal in 2011 Men's European Volleyball Championship.
Serbia done something after 20 years we had volleyball champions in both categories (man and woman). Before 2011 SSSR done that in 1991.
Tennis
Serbian tennis players Novak Djokovic, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Janković, Viktor Troicki, Nenad Zimonjić and Janko Tipsarević are very successful and led to a popularisation of tennis in Serbia. As of 2013, Novak Djokovic has won six Grand Slam titles and Ana Ivanovic has won one, whilst Jelena Janković has reached one Grand Slam final. All three have also been ranked World No. 1 at certain stages in their careers. In recent times however, the dominance of the Serbian women have diminished, whilst Novak Djokovic continues to dominate in the men's sport. In 2010, Serbia became the 13th nation to win the Davis Cup after completing a 3-2 victory over France in Belgrade.

Serbia really does extremely well in many sports - What is noticable between Serbia & UK is the youth mentality. You visit any village, town or city in Serbia and you'll find the majority of the youth are doing some form of outdoor sport activity most days. The same I am afraid cannot be said in the UK these days.
I did that in the 80's, give it 30 years and iPhones will be all the rage over there too...
We all did Wayne in 80's. The mentality has changed in the UK over the last couple of decades. But even with t'internet and games and shit people there still play far more outdoor activities than we do.

RL eRep. I know this seems to be hard for you to understand but most people in the UK have nothing against Serbia even in game. Most countries just have bullies for politicians which has ended in too many alliance disputes, eventually leading to the Serbia / SPoland split.
I know PTO is an eSerb national sport too. You don't get any merit or medals for it though, perhaps you should try a more interesting sport in eRep.
I'm off to google Ivana Spanovic, for errm, research. 😃
