The Rugby Club Finals Finally Played

The Juneau Roughnecks defeated the San Antonio Bandits eight to seven winning the National Club Rugby Championship yesterday. This match was scheduled to be played days ago, but fighting broke out between our Armed Services and an attacking force from Russia. Immediately upon kick-off, the Bandit Captain and starting hooker, Dylan Fawsitt dotted a try, after making a quick line break with no one else in sight. Armand Frances, the French National flyhalf slotted the conversion. The Bandits stayed ahead right until the halftime whistle was blown.

Juneau regrouped and around the 55 minute mark, jackaled theball in a ruck inside the San Antonio 5 meter line. After a few pick and goes, tight head prop PJ Ryan scored all the way on the outside. This was Ryan’s 10thtry of the season, making him the league leader in trues by a forward.Unfortunately, with a stiff breezing going right to left, flyhalf Scott Ferrara couldn’t tie it up, missing the tough conversion.

Coming up to the final whistle, with the Roughnecks pushing forward, Bandit center Will O’Keefe harangued his Roughneck counterpart MarkLeonard with a high tackle. This was the golden opportunity Juneau needed, Ferrara slotted the penalty at the death. It was a scene of extreme jubilation on theRoughneck sideline, contrasted with utter disappointment by the Bandits.  Congratulations to both teams on a wonderful season, as per league rules, the 2020 -2021 season opener will be a Roughnecks/Bandits rematch.
