Day 2,898, 08:12 Published in United Kingdom Canada by JQXZ

Welcome to the thirty-second edition of Political Hotspot.

There has been significant upheaval in UK politics in the past few days. The positions of the main parties have shifted, with the WRP falling out of the top five, and ESO gaining a place in the top five. This means that ESO got to participate in the Congress elections this month, and the WRP did not. ESO did very well in the elections, getting ten seats, more than any other party, although one of them was reserved for the WRP, whose candidate Rafay Ahmed was put in top position in the ESO list. TUP is still the largest party membership-wise, but they tend to do badly in Congress elections. This month was no exception.

These upheavals are an indicator that in the UK it is possible for parties to move in and out of the top five, and that the relative positions of the parties are in flux. This is symptomatic of a healthy political scene. The UK has six main parties, a situation that does not fit well into the eRepublik political system, which is designed to allow five strong parties to reign supreme over everyone else. It is likely that the fact that it is possible for six main parties to exist in the UK is extremely beneficial to democracy, since if it is possible for a party to have success even though it is not in the top five, it is easier for new parties to rise to the top, and likewise for old parties to fade away. This is a necessary process in a healthy democracy.

The reasons for the movement of parties in and out of the top five at this time are not as simple as it would at first appear. At a cursory glance it would seem that a rise in membership propelling ESO into the top five had pushed the WRP out. To get a clearer idea of what has really happened, however, it is necessary to consider the role of the BDP. As ESO has been gaining membership over recent weeks it has come increasingly close to pushing the BDP out of the top five. The BDP has responded by increasing it's membership, something that one or two people are rather too good at, to ensure that it remained a top five party. The result of this tussle between ESO and the BDP is that when ESO overtook the WRP, the BDP followed suit, thereby pushing the WRP from position four to position six. It is therefore the BDP that is responsible for the WRP's fall out of the top five.

The UK has also suffered a 'liberation' by a foreign military force that has deprived the country of it's Constitutional Dictatorship, with King Woldy having been overthrown from the position of Dictator. This action is in defiance of the UK constitution, and puts the UK at risk from a takeover by a hostile foreign MU. The government should act to restore King Woldy's Constitutional Dictatorship as soon as possible.

God Save King Woldy!
