Mercenary Medal - making it easy
Death and Taxes
Greetings again,
Another of those occasional articles I write based on my own experiences that might make things easier for you. To begin, the MM achievement has somewhat received a bad press as it's assumed that the achievers are traitors to their eCountry or Military Unit (MU). This is of course true. There are only 70 countries to choose from in your MM campaign and you need to complete 50, considering the number of countries not at war from time to time and geographical issues, to complete this achievement within an reasonable time frame you are going to have to fight on the other side.
But so what? Even at general level to complete a sweep of 25 kills to get another country under my belt I might do 60,000 damage. Hardly enough to win a battle let alone a campaign, what's important to your MU and eCountry is that the money you raise from your MM achievement is put to good use like improving your health centre or your companies. Take the long perspective on this, what's good for me is also good for my colleagues.
So let's start at the basics shall we? First of all, always complete your Daily Order (DO) as you'll need those bazookas and candy bars when your MU starts harping on about your loyalties:
So over a period of days the DO will add to your total of completed countries. In addition, your country will have MPP's (Mutual Protection Pacts) with various countries around the world that allow you to fight without moving home.
At the moment, this will knock off another 5 countries, but it does fluctuate and you will get a few more. Please note that resistance wars don't figure in these 'free' battles, we'll get back to that later.
So in order to get to the next stage we need to cross over to the other side. The easiest way to do this is to change location and move to your nearest opponent. In this case we are talking about eUK - our current pact means we don't have to fight them - and as you can see they are currently on the map:
Once there, we can check and see what campaigns we can add to our growing list:
Which gives us an extra 7 countries. Remember, you'll be doing this in conjunction with your DO, so the plan is to finish the DO, hop across into the UK, and knock off another 2 countries hopefully. Next day, train, knock off another 1 or 2 then hop back to finish your DO. You need to be in your own country or at the scene of the battle to complete the DO.
With all that out of the way, you should be getting into the late 20's and early 30's of completed countries. At this point we need to look further afield. But we can be smart about this, so let's head to the USA:
The good 'ol USA has a big empire and if we move to its European base we only have to move for 20 IEP, what's more, we get to chose any battle they or their allies are involved. As you'd expect, it's a long list:
At the moment they're adding another 5 including two resistance wars - as is common in any empire. To finish things off, we may need to head to another empire like Argentina to complete the list, in this case to save money, you are better off staying there for a few days to get things done, rather than hopping to and for for the DO.
I trust this is helpful to you all. It's probably not a good idea if you're a National Force+ as it might not go down to well with your eComrades. Remember to take any opportunities that arise from unusual conflicts, Belgium vs Holland being a recent example.

In about 5 years I'll write an article about the Media Mogul achievement, so any subscribers are very welcome, thanks!
The Kurgan is satisfied with this article....
So you advocate fighting for the UK against canada?? just to get a medal??
Maybe you should leave allies you have MPP's with out
Oh Nogin, I did say that a miserly 50k damage as a once-off is hardly going to make a difference when you take into account the overall damage? OK in fairness, if everybody did this, it would have an enormous impact, but this article is there to help beginners yeah?
you forgot China in the first image
When you're fighting against allies always fight at the end of a battle, when one side already has around 1700 points and the wall is over 52, 53% in favor of the winning side. That way you won't influence anything.
Also be informed about your country's orders (and orders of your allies) because sometimes we want our enemies to win (region swap or not loosing NE on some country) and that is a good time to fight for them.
And fight for merc medal when there aren't any important battles..
Hope that helps : )
I've got one MM and am 31 countries into the 2nd.
How I do it is to travel to an enemy country when nothing interesting's going on at home and do one or two kills for each of their active MPPs. If the battle's close I skip it (I can do a lot of damage when I get going). If the particular battles is unwinnable for us or entirely safe I'll bag a few more kills, sometimes (rarely) I'll get all 25. The Merc medal pic on your profile tells you how many you've banked for each country when you hover over their flag, so you know when you next go collecting how many you need. It takes longer this way but it eases more guilt 😉
Very good and helpful article.
If Kurgan is satisfied with this article, i am satisfied too!
sub! : P
Good job as always.
You can fight on both sides to ensure that your overall effect is neutral
good job on the article
