HEAD SHAVE CHALLENGE!

Most of us, being sunk deep under the ocean of our own problems, we often forget that there are people around us who are giving the greatest battle of all: the battle for life. Consequently, we fail to appreciate the biggest gift given to us by God, which is nothing else than our good health, and we often get desperate over our insignificant issues.

Unfortunately, it's not until misfortune strikes us, a family member or a dear friend, that we begin to appreciate how important it is to be healthy and enjoy every moment on Earth next to our beloved ones.

As a day-to-day volunteer at "Karaiskakio" Foundation (Centre for the Study of Haematological Malignancies) based in Nicosia, Cyprus, I could not stay unsensitized to the fact that so many people of all ages are diagnosed with leukaemia. Especially when you see cases of children or even babies, it's just heartbreaking. Those of you who know or used to know leukaemia patiens, you also know that this disease changes one's life radically, as well as of the people around him/her.

It is important to highlight that the foundation is a philanthropic organization established by the parents of little Andreas Karaiskakis. A bank account was opened at the name of little Andreas, in order for him to travel abroad for a bone marrow transplantation in 1996. Unfortunately, little Andreas didn't make it, so his parents donated the amount they gathered so as to establish the first and only bone marrow registry in Cyprus.

In order to help our fellow-men who are suffering from this awful disease, I decided to become a volunteer bone marrow donor in the first instance (which I advise you to do if you haven't done so already, it just requires you to give a little bit of blood).

Additionally, "Karaiskakio" Foundation is organizing a Head Shave Challenge Day on the 6th of June, in order to raise funds and support all leukaemia patients (facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/events/818825321519176).

Therefore, I would like to inform you that I am willing to shave my head in support of all leukemia patients/victims and their families on the 6th of June, if all of you help raise the amount of 150 euros the least for "Karaiskakio" Foundation. 🙂 The lowest amount you can contribute is 10 euros. Many of us are spending money on unnecessary stuff which we don't really need, even on virtual things like this foolish game, so why not to make a donation for our fellow-men in need? 🙁

Those of you who donate just write "D" in the comments below. After the 15 first donations the minimum amount of 150 euros will have been definitely gathered (the lowest being 10 euros). 🙂
