I don't see how this article serves anything, tbh. Vanek is an ass, everyone knows that already, but that doesn't mean he isn't an excellent NSC chair.

While how he may have said things in a pretty harsh manner, he is quite correct. You have to realize limitations in regards to out of the way small countries. If someone large wants to annihilate them, it's gonna happen, regardless of whether or not we wasted damage there. I'm not saying it doesn't suck for the small countries, but the eUS really isn't a superpower these days. We win when we concentrate our firepower over a window of priorities, not by spreading our damage out all day long.

Obviously, that rule is disregarded when we're in our primetime, but that only lasts long enough to lock down maybe 5 minis? Then once our Euro enemies wake up, said campaign is pretty much lost unless EDEN takes an interest. Those are the facts of the matter and Vanek, although not exactly friendly, was right. It IS wasted damage.

And people say I was drama llama when I quit the JCSF...

@Liquid Oxygen: Vanek might be correct from a pure, damage-must-always-be-used-to-win perspective, but the large part of this UNWINNABLE game is building and maintaining relationships between allies, something that even those in the government would admit is necessary. In fact, your comment that "the eUS really isn't a superpower these days" highlights the importance of maintaining good relationships with our allies - ALL of them.

The truth of this game as the poles are aligned is that, except on a rare freak day, the eUS and its allies could be vastly outgunned by ONE. The ease with which the recent wipe of the eUS was accomplished by ONE only serves to point out that, if they choose, they can do whatever they want.

So on any day, it's really a choice on how to look at it:

1) "Who are we going to throw under the bus today?"

OR

2) "Who are we going to try to help today?"


tl;dr Helping an ally is never "wasted" damage since you can't ever "win" this game.

To be honest you have to think about it in terms of capability. It serves the security of those smaller nations to have us keeping those big countries busy in important battles. While I applaud you in theory, in application, we'll lose every single battle due to not focusing our damage properly if we follow that doctrine.

Having friends is nice, framing it as "betrayal" or throwing someone under the bus is hyperbolic, imo. It's a matter of efficiency. We can't BE everywhere. Sure, we could put a prio on them and even win a couple minis for them in the prime time, but in the end, it'd only delay the inevitable.

Let me try to explain something in somewhat relative terms.
When people don't like what you do (some) you can call upon your allies (Fitizen/Custer) and ask them to help you (this article).
What about if their papers didn't have a couple thousand subs, is it going to be as popular (damage)?
It doesn't matter. Because of the trust I had built with these two guys they gladly stepped up and helped.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing, Jon. I'm simply trying to explain Vanek's reasoning from a more basic and less hostile viewpoint. I've got several eFinns in the SF, one in a command position and he's never complained that we didn't put his country higher in the priorities list.

I understand everyone's position very clearly, I'm just trying to provide some insight into OURS, as well. Everyone needs perspective in an unbiased way, imo.

Sure, I've been an asshole in regards to some of the things being said, but in the same way people on THAT side of the fence feel strongly about their community, we feel just as strongly about ours. Surely there's some common ground there, right?

Rahm Emanuel is an ass and a half, but nobody says he's not the right man for the job, be it Chief of Staff of the White House or mayor of Chicago.

Vanek26 is an angry, bitter dick, but he does a good job of securing our eNation's security.

Would I like it if there were fewer angry, bitter dicks in this game? Yes. Until then, though, put them to work where they'll do the most good.

Vanek26 doesn't work in player retention or diplomacy, and here we see why. His job is to ensure that if any ass-kicking goes on, it's our boot and Spain's ass. The trick to dealing with any angry, bitter dick is simple: If it's not your job, *don't*. Just pretend he's not there.

Hey just to put my own insight as well.

I am cool with both sides, yes I agree Vanek has "creative" ways to come about things. But not going to say hes doing a shitty job in his department. Hes been doing great.

I personally agree with helping our allies. Because without them we would not be where we are vs. Spain, they would still own half our country at this moment. While Finland is a smaller country and yes they will constantly be invaded and never have thier own land back while Estonia is still there. It does not mean we cant help them at all. While we help them, they can help us one day.

If the eUS keeps being greedy with our damage and putting towards Spain, the chances of never getting allied help is going to suck.

Remember were in a timezone were only a few people can fight for us in our prime time. Therfore when its overnight and early morning were going to need help allied help to ensure the battle is won.

Dont forget Austrais, we won the battles in our primetime, but overnight yeah it was over from there. What the JCS is doing fighting for allies is more helpful then you guys would think.

Im not on the JCS side by any means. I'm both sides. Im just not personally the guy to say fight for the eUS only.

You make it sound like the USAF never fights for our allies. I can assure that that is not the case, and we fight for our allies when the help is requested and / or needed.
