Dictator - My Thoughts

Day 2,661, 15:42 Published in USA USA by Israel Stevens

As of this writing, there are 17 or so hours left in the Dictator Law voting that is going through Congress. As a Congressman, I have a decision to make. The problem is, I have no idea how I want to vote.

Here’s how I see it.

Pros of installing the PotUS as Dictator

The United States has always been about strong game mechanics. We do them better than almost anyone else in the game. Some of the best mechanical players in the world have called eUS home. Creating a Dictator is mechanically smart. It prevents other countries from starting a Civil War.
With the Civil War only having a 3 hour announcement period, it is very possible that a foreign power could start one while the majority of the United States is asleep. Anyone that was around for a wipe of the US, remembers waking up to battles that were already lost. This could be the same for a Coup attempt. By the time we wake up, we’re down 30 points. And then it’s off to work and school… not ideal timing to defend.

You can say that Unity was awful, but mechanically it was perfect. We were never fully PTO’d. It worked. It just sucked. Oftentimes taking the best road mechanically isn’t popular or pretty. It’s why we generally avoid open war with Serbia. It might be fun, but we’d get stomped on.

The mechanics of Civil Wars is a huge reason to consider supporting a Dictator. Anyone that thinks it isn’t, doesn’t understand the game mechanics behind it.

Cons of installing the PotUS as Dictator

Congressional activity.
It’s not just about the activity of the Congress boards. But the whole process leading up to Congress. The organizing of people, the deals between 6th and Top 5 parties, the voting in primaries. All of that would be diminished, because although we would still elect people, Congress’ role would not be as prominent.

There is also the 25th to consider. If Congress is a lame duck, then even fewer people are going to turn out to vote. This could potentially leave us vulnerable to unsavory Congressmen getting in.
Case in point: load up a party with enemies running for Congress. On the 25th, flood that party with muli-votes. With the reduced voting all around, there’s a better chance that the unsavory people (far down) on the ballot get it.

Remote chance?
Absolutely.

But we’re a strong mechanical country, and we generally don’t leave ourselves open like that.

I am also concerned about what happens if we get a bad PotUS. One that disappears, or decides they don’t want to give up the Dictatorship. They would have an awful lot of control, and fewer checks placed against them.

Or, if they decide to give the Presidency to someone else.
People get upset in this game all the time. Who’s to say that a PotUS doesn’t get pissed off and hand the country over to Ajay?

Yes, they could be taken out in a Revolution followed by Impeachment, but that takes time. And if we’re looking at an enemy in the Oval Office, we don’t have a lot of time.

As it stands now, the President can’t resign except for the 6 hours of vote checking (I think? Little hazy on my CP mechanics.) And if they’re impeached, it goes to the next person in line.

The President can’t just give someone the Presidency, like you can with a Dictator.

The Immigration is another issue for me.
Imagine 2011 Oblige having citizenship passes.
shudders

Yeah… that’s not good.

I still don’t know where I stand. It felt good to write about it though. The one Pro, is a massive one. And the Cons are smaller issues for me. But together, I feel like they balance it out.
Leave a comment if you want to try and sway me, I’ll gladly listen. But I’m not reading pages of comments when you people start arguing with each other. 🙂
