CoI Questionnaire: The Results Are in!

Day 1,948, 20:51 Published in Canada Canada by Yuri Kaczynski

Before we begin, let me preface this by extending my thanks to all the dedicated eSoldiers who fought in Quebec and are, as I write this, fighting in Ontario. Whatever MU you belong to, congratulations!

Thanks to the 27 people who responded! Hopefully, we can use this information to see how we are doing in representing eCanada on the battlefield, or find out how we can improve our MU.

Members' past MU affiliations

Good news here: Only 8/23 people had not been in an MU before - eCanadians are coming to us from other MUs, primarily the CAF.

The "other" MUs in which members have fought are:
Night Watch
EPC
US Special Forces
United Aggression
AFP (An Australian MU)
Drunken Masters
Crazy Canucks

Satisfaction with DOs

Among current members, approval of how DOs are set is fairly high.

Among past members, support is lower (though it is hard to gauge due to the sample size).

Satisfaction with supplies

Thanks to Dereck Ryan & co. for their hard work, it shows in the responses!

Even among former members, there is agreement that supply deliveries are a strong point of CoI.

Respondents were more critical towards the supplies themselves, however.

Now the results for former members. One of them, by the way, cited supplies as a direct reason for leaving.

The Community

Both current...

...and former members gave the CoI community high marks.

How likely are members to stay?

Very good news here, just two people who responded have any desire to leave the Captains.

Current members on what should change in CoI

There were quite a few answers provided for this question. They include:

"I want more discussion within the MU about what to do with the MU's direction. Get your members involved beyond the game by doing little things."

"Not sure if CoI is doing this but we need some active marketing to bring in more newer players."

"We also need another slave pit. I'm sure creating another slave pit costs Gold, but I wouldn't mind donating to make this happen. Let's discuss this and find a solution."

"Increase supplies if possible; Have organized fighting; Utilize IRC more."

"We should find a way to explain the role of the Captain so that we can attract the right people to the role. This aspect of the MU is left alone and usually it is okay, yet some development in this area to bring awareness to Captain elections may do well.
Also, we could use a new player program that provides new players with tips, some mentorship, and some basic extra supplies."

"I would like to start a program specifically helping newer players with additional supplies, but it's so hard to get something like that started when our funds are shrinking (With the country wiped, we aren't getting any money)"

"id like to say that im a new player and in no way do i claim to know the inner workings of the game. that being said i feel like CoI needs to have more programs for noobs, maybe mentoring or a food bank or a slavepit like idea for newbies."

"Please make sure DOs are available 24 hours! Make DO consistent across all sub-units to increase the chance of winning a war."

"I think leadership at all levels (MU, Congress, CP) should work towards organizing a central army command. Where we get the buy in from all of our MU's and respective members so that when we start a battle, we're better organized to have a better chance at winning the battles.

"This same leadership would also be responsible to work with other Ecountries to gain their participation in one way or another.

"We may even want to look at a mercenary legion (something like the French Foreign Legion) to be able to call upon at a cost. I think CAD that is currently wasted on poorly organized RW's could be put towards such a venture."

"The name, seems more economy related that war related. but it is a good name nevertheless."

"I would make CoI borders mandatory, display our power on the battlefield."

"I prefer the old logo, the original one."

"I guess you guys can try to update events for members more."

"Not going to be popular but I think a large percentage of the supplies should go to the new players (once they have earned their first Hard Workers Award) to help them. Anyone who is World Class Force or above should be excluded from supplies."

Why former members left and what motivated them to stay

(Note: Most former members were involved in CoI 12 months ago or less)

"I know Q7 is cost prohibitive but it should be something that was strived for."

"The MU is too big to have a mostly absent Commander. Too many two-clickers that just join because it's the biggest."

"The build up of respect and comradarie with the old guard was a real factor in possibly staying."

Will former members return?

Surprisingly enough...

Where did they go?

Other comments on CoI

"Being on the west coast, I sometimes get home for work and the DO campaign of the day is over, and I am unable to get my 25 kills in for the day."

"for our size, it does seem that there is less going on than you'd expect."

"The main core of CoI is a 5/5. But we have many members that I would rate 2/5. A lot of beggers, people who complain about the DO (those who want RW's which is not the governments aim right now)"

"No, There seem to be a lot of times where i have no posted DO or the fight has been over for some time."

"I find the community more engaging."

"we're here with a purpose. The idea of self suffiency."

"the community is fun great articles to read and for the most part people are willing to help with supplies advice and weapons when needed, there are a few who openly bash players who ask for help in the chats which i feel deters new players from asking for help or even comenting in the chat."

"The food reward could be higher for reaching 15 kills and for 25 kills maybe reward some food along with the weapons"

"Other than we need to spend travel cost a lot, the worst part is that there is no backup DO. When one DO has ended, there is no another for me to work on. I have to skip DO from time to time."

"I like the life-liness of message with a large group of players. Good to see discussions of different aspect of the game. Tuesday and Friday fights are great! I am glowing better in this MU comparing to the other MU."

"The slavepit, DO bonus, and Fight nights are what keeps me here. Good to have a stable management of MU as well. If any of these is changed, it will make this MU not attractive."

"It is not bad. But only good for regular 25 to 35 kills. I had not much gain in wealth. I only rely on Super Soldier bonus now..."

"It has been a while, but automatically getting supplies for your slave labour. Not having to go on forums to answer calls in order to receive supplies is the reason I joined."

"I'm worried that politics are seeping in, and it worries me. I don't want to see arguments and people who are too proud to let go of verbal tussles on the COI feed..."

"I find this MU to be considerably more active, despite the state of eCanada, at the moment."

"but to be honest thanks to COI i am mostly self sufficient. so the supplies were not my reason for being part of the group for the most part. Usually i just wanted a group to be part of."

"Yeah. I liked the focus on helping members develop their companies and build towards being self sufficient. Of course now the economy of the game being severely depressed like it is buying companies seems like an impossible pipe dream."

"The only frustrating thing that kept COI from getting a 5 was the leaders going for CP and then ditching the community. It felt like they were using us for votes and were NOT invested in the group."

"Bloody oath! Got almost nothing from my previous MU. People here have no idea how lucky they are."

(In response to a question about supplies): "Amount, yes. Quality, no."

"I asked around and found better [supplies]...You are a good group of people, but part of this game is looking out for yourself. The MU simply doesn't compete with one like Liberty."

That's it. I hope this survey proved to be useful, or at least sparks discussion about what we can do to improve CoI. In the meantime, thanks for reading.
