Being Presidential

Day 1,590, 14:04 Published in Ireland Ireland by Death and Taxes

Greetings.

As you know we are a state of flux in the world of eRepublik, particularly for those of us who have joined in the last 6 months. After a period of just retribution from our perspective, the eUK is back on the map and in business. The previous tedious TEDEN alliance has been rent asunder, France is about to be put to the sword and half of Canada doesn't like us anymore.

For the record, I'd like to say that the current agreement with eUK was a practical calculated move. You should always enter into agreements with your opponents when you are in a position of strength, particularly if your allies are fragmenting.

I would also pay my due respects to the ICA, who within a short period of time are becoming quite a formidable military unit (as evidenced by daily reports) for which I think we may all be very grateful for in the near future.

Accordingly, the next presidential candidate is critical decision for this country to make. We can't afford to chose a president who will make strategic errors resulting in this country being wiped.

It's at this point that you're expecting me to give the usual Three Hail Marys, followed by numerous salutes and other, well, quite frankly cliched and boring platitudes for one candidate or another.

Of course I'm not.

What I'm going to say is that being a president of a country, even an ecountry is an honour and a privilege. At the moment we have two potential candidates and their supporters heaping large amounts of bile and vitriol at each other in a distinctly nasty campaign, much like we are seeing in the real US Republican candidacy process.

In engaging in these tactics, the candidates are reducing the role of President to a mouthpiece of their faction with attack-dog tendencies. It's unpleasant, unnecessary, divisive and damaging to this country.

My unasked for advice, is that all candidates should back off the negative campaigning and concentrate on their positive values and how they intend to ensure our country remains strong in these turbulent times.

I'm a big fan of irony. I'm sure with a lot of you that the prospect of a Libertad-IRE member advocating a commonsense, united and rational all-Ireland approach instead of say, anyone else, should drive the message home.

With respect to all candidates and their supporting parties I am
