Analysis of the New Congress

Day 433, 13:20 Published in Canada Canada by Alias Vision

First of all on a personal note, this was my first Congress election where I sought the nomination. It was both an interesting and humbling experience. I should have known I was in trouble when my presentation wasn't getting many votes... the writing (or lack thereof) was on the proverbial wall. Thank you to whoever it was that gave me their vote, it was very much appreciated. Congratulations to all elected members, make us proud!

The first thing to note about this election was a marked downturn in voter turnout. Can this be attributed to the recent unrest? Perhaps because it certainly wasn't for the lack of quality representation or drama. All the major parties with the exception of the CSD and BLOC went through a rebranding process. Some of these efforts were disastrous (CHAOS), some were very successful (PPC) and some provided Canadians with new and original choices (CEP).

22 Congressmen were re-elected which shows good confidence from the public with the job the government has been doing recently. 18 brand new players entered the scene. The CSD continued its strong presence and representation and will again be the major party in Congress. The militarists-styled CEP are a not too distant second. The biggest push though and the ones to watch going forward have to be the PPC. With 7 seats in Congress they are firmly established as the third alternative.

Here are some breakdowns by provinces:

Newfoundland and Labrador
CSD held both NFLD seats last round. Antion Fontaine being re-elected is a hold but the CEP managed to pick up one seat with the disappearance of Isaac Nihilo from the race. NFLD's participation rate dropped by more than 50%.
-1 CSD, +1 CEP

Prince Edward Island
Cesar Augustus found a home in the CEP after Uraczak regained control and rebranded to its CHAOS roots. Crossfire22 replaced No Idea for a hold on the part of the CSD.
-1 CSD, -1 CCF, -1 CHAOS, +1 CEP

Nova Scotia
NS liked their congressmen enough to re-elect them both. Emilio Sanchez for a CEP hold and Joey Philips this time under the PPC banner.
-1 CEP, +1 PPC

New Brunswick
Like NFLD, NB was all CSD in the last election. Things changed radically as neither Bryce S nor Zanalan were on the ticket. John Wilkmot (previously in PEI) picked up a seat for the CEP and M.H.Aurelius for the PPC doing well in the East. Unfortunately NB's participation rate dropped by more than 50% as well.
-2 CSD, +1 CEP, +1 PPC

Quebec
Miloslav and Marcchelala are becoming institutions in Quebec. Both were re-elected and both held their seat for their respective parties. Interestingly Inochimizu also held a seat and more than tripled his support. Przemek Orfin is a newly elected congressman and the 4th Quebec representative.
-1 CSD, +1 PPC

Ontario
The always competitive Ontario race was interesting once again. Last election Trenton Rendell ran away with the most votes and although he did manage to get re-elected, Cleomynestra Cathak was the overwhelming favorite this time. Bruck also managed to get re-elected. The major storyline in Ontario was the disappearance of CHAOS entirely from the ballot.
-2 CHAOS, +2 CCF

Manitoba
Kim Ki Duk was re-elected in MA for a CSD hold but the surprise was the strength of the ticket from top to bottom. Frank Black for the only CCF win, Ali Al Baghdadi and Petz will all join Duk in representing MA.
+1 CSD

Saskatchewan
SA's participation rate was the big story here. A drop of 50% in voters that saw both SA congressmen returned for CSD holds.

Alberta
4 of the 5 candidates in AL were returning congressmen. 3 got re-elected with David Eastcorner notable for his 5 mandate.
-2 CHAOS, +1 PPC

British Columbia
Struck Last May, the nominal leader of the PPC, followed the fortunes of the party and showed strength in BC. BC will send 5 congressmen to Ottawa, a gain of 1 from the previous election.
+1 PPC

Yukon
The big question here was where did Alexander Rearden go? He had declared his intentions but did not appear on the ballot. Nevertheless the CEP managed to hold a seat with the election of Volsung.
-1 CHAOS, +1 CSD

Northwest Territories
Oisin was not even running and the loss of his seat completed the sweep of CHAOS from the congressional map. Led by Dominik the CSD managed to secure both seats.
-1 CHAOS, +1 CSD

Nunavut
The last race but not the least. NUN's vote was close and the voters returned 4 congressman even with the surprise defeat of 25Fulcrum. As was the theme all day, the biggest winners were the PPC with both Robert More and Charles Simo earning wildcard berths.
-1 CCF, +2 PPC
