Press Briefing
SColbert, Press Secretary

Today the cabinet mainly focused on:
-Today was the most active day of the term
-More posts were made than ever before
-People literally talked about how much they hate this game
-Like the only reason people were in anyway active was because they were drawn together out of mutual hatred
-It seems that those we have come to accept as pillars of our community only stick around because much like the tween wife of a cult leader, it's the only life they have ever known
-Also **** BeachBunny for not believing in me
-Civ 5 was discussed which is pretty good
-I promised to do a Press Briefing tonight because I wouldn't be drunk this night of syllabus week
-I then remembered I do not have classes on Fridays
-So naturally I am pretty drunk
-I showed up on Wednesday to a round table discussion with former White House Chief of Staff, and Counselor to the President John Podesta pretty hungover
-I think he noticed
-Does that mean I have a problem?
-I don't think so
-I mean you're only in college for 4 years
-Why not be really hungover when you meet Bill Clinton?
-Oh I also met Bill Clinton hungover
-He's pretty rad
-Still drunk, so that will mean I'll be hungover canvassing tomorrow (really today considering it's almost 3 AM)
-That was a lot of name dropping
-Please notice me internet people

Coming Soon: iSpy and DoCA Ambassadors

Cabinet Expose: The Role of the Secretary of Citizen Affairs
Hale26, Secretary of Citizen Affairs

To really talk about SoCA, you gotta talk about its history. Wayyy back under Naz's first term I came on as the Secretary of Education after a previous SecEd went inactive, stole money...some small thing, yknow? I was kept busy working in Education - restructuring American University, putting out informational guides, managing Question of the day...etc. There was also the person running Interior that month - they ran BU2SU, Stack the Wall, Meals on Wheels and handled contests.

Today we have a combination of those Departments: The Department of Citizens Affairs. This made a lot of sense - Interior and Education have similar motives. Further, a massive amount of the work is actually not influenced by if we have One or Twenty directors. Carhugar, Yui, Kodos and Scott run all the programs (save QoTD) AND the website between 'em. Can't forget our mentoring staff at AU either- Mr.Mirage, EddieA, EdgarFigaro and Nothos (extra s/o to him - last two mentees got banned. #struggles)*. People like them are what separates us from, say, Thailand (is it still fashionable to bash Thailand? I dunno).

It's easier too for the nation - find one good Director and suddenly your whole newb experience is perfect. It was rare that we had a good Interior and Education at the same time. It also eased the way to our 25000cc/week share of Congressional funding.

Of course, things can get pretty bureaucratic. This goes into the present. Inside of DoCA there is Question of the Day, Bank Up to Strength Up, Stack the Wall, Meals on Wheels, American University, iSpy and the soon to be launched DoCA Ambassadors and Media. Eight sub-departments, each with their own funding line, purpose, google doc infrastructure, program head and daily requirements. My job for the past twenty days has been to review the Department functionings and get whatever needs to be fixed, fixed. For the past few months DoCA hasn't had Directors which served a full term for whatever reason so there was catching up to do. This is where I thank a creation of Naz and I's - the DoCA Commission. With absolutely no recognition they looked over my various reports and provided a great deal of useful insight.

Currently, I act as the Program Lead for Question of the Day until January 30th after the last Program lead had to step down (2 month backlog). It's easy to let things slip in this Dept, as that 400+ request backlog proves. In addition to that, we're preparing the launch of iSpy (a new Forum Game: Monday), DoCA Media (an updating of guides: Friday) and DoCA Ambassadors (Friday). In the background we're exploring the age-old program eNASA as well.

Safe to say, SoCA is a busy job. But the chance to work with a team like the one we have here in DoCA? Easily worth that time commitment.

*And yes, I religiously read the AU Program thread. I'm everywhere. 😁

Pre-Election Report
Jaden A., Secretary of Media

Tonight at day change begins Congressional Elections! Our last Congressional Election, in December, yielded this seat distribution:

Seats in the Dec. 2015 Congressional Election:
USWP: 14
Feds: 13
SFP: 12
BSP: 11
WTP: 9
Total Seats: 59

We currently own 61 regions, meaning that our January-February Congress will pick up 3 more seats than the current Congress.

Be sure to cast your vote today with the big blue button on the home page that says “VOTE!” You can choose to vote for any one of the top 5 parties, the Federalists, the United States Workers Party, We the People, the Socialist Freedom Party, or the Black Sheep Party. The distribution of votes between the 5 parties will be the distribution of seats held in Congress in the next term. The Party President of each party has picked (or followed a vote to determine- depending on the party) a list of candidates to represent the parties in Congress. You can see who each party has picked as candidates on the Election page where you cast your vote!

Remember, vote early and vote often 😉 (not really, though, because multies are bad).

Mid-Term Interview with the President
Joey3790, Deputy Secretary of Media

I’ll be honest, when I first got my assignment for this week, I was a little nervous. An interview with Naz, the most important person in the eCountry? How’s the CP/D even going to have time to talk to me, an idiot journalist on his first big assignment? What questions could I even ask? Well, not being one to back down from a challenge, I gathered my things together, thought up a few questions, and headed on down to the eWhite House.

As I sat there shaking like a leaf waiting for him to enter the room, I couldn’t help but wonder how this was going to go. Then that moment arrived, he opened the door and sat down. I was finally face to face with our nation’s leader. Taking a deep breath, I started asking my questions. Throughout the interview I came to realize that Azazel has the demeanor that can really put you at ease, because that’s exactly what he did for me.

So I asked him some random questions. Some about his campaign promises, some about current happens, and one or two off-the-wall questions just because. Would you like to know what his answers were? Well, keep on reading!

Question 1: I’m a fairly new player, I personally don’t know you very well. What are some things that you would like others, especially newer players, to know about you?

Naz: In real life I study international security, listen to whatever music sounds good, and enjoy Italian and Indian food. In game, I’ve done many jobs like media, foreign affairs, military coordination, and the presidency. I like to think I’m generally easy to get along with.

Question 2: Is there anything special that you would like the average eAmerican to know about you or about being the President?

Naz: I only do the job when I feel like it is needed, not necessarily when I want to. I don’t think being president is about advancing your personal agenda, but rather to build consensus and advance discussions along.

Question 3: We’re about half-way through your term, how do you feel your term is going so far? Successful?

Naz: It’s not going too bad so far. We were successful in our war with Indonesia, though that may open back up again. We have an engaging and active NSC/Defense team. We’ve also seen a revitalization in the DoCA and the Media department, which I am truly glad to see starting up and moving along. This has given us the chance to introduce many new players into the national government.

Question 4: How does this term compare to your last time(s) as PoTUS?

Naz: I’m not sure I remember my last terms too well anymore. We kept the country stable and set the stage for further greatness. I’m not sure if I’m doing the same now, but I guess that time will eventually tell.

Question 5: Are you proud of the choices you made for cabinet positions? Are there any you regret?

Naz: I am proud so far. My cabinet works hard and they are making sure everything is running well. No regrets thus far.

Question 6: One of the main focuses of your campaign was to revitalize the domestic programs of the DoCA. How successful has this become?

Naz: It’s a work in progress, but Hale26 has essentially finished evaluating programs and now we are setting about creating new programs, strengthening older ones, and improving media and outreach. Time will tell, but we are currently active and making things happen. I look forward to seeing further results.

Question 7: Another main focus of your campaign was to re-energize the national media. How successful do you think this has been so far?

Naz: I don’t know about national media as a whole, but the WHPR has been published reliably and consistently. I applaud Jaden and her team and what they have done so far. I like it when the editor-in-chief pushes everyone along and makes sure things happen.

Question 8: The Media Dept. has a writing contest currently going on. There are well over 50 articles so far in the contest. Are you satisfied with that response from the community?

Naz: The whole point of the contest was to just reward media in general. Almost every article is being considered, and hopefully someone has decided to write just to be included in the contest. Regardless of the response, I do think it is important that we reward those who do write.

Question 9: During your campaign, when referring to SFP, Bear Calvary and the events of December, you said “I want to set the stage for a reconciliation and progress towards a better established country.” Do you feel that this has been accomplished, or is there yet more work to be done in this area?

Naz: There is always more work to be done. SFP members have been involved in DoCA and Media work this month to great results, and there is certainly less focus upon our divisions. I don’t know if we’ve fully accomplished starting the process, but I think the trend has been positive so far.

Question 10: How are things going in Indonesia? Anything that the USA could be doing better?

Naz: We’ve been doing alright in Indonesia. We managed to beat them, and they just managed to win a RW. I definitely think that enthusiasm for the war has worn out, at least on our side. Indonesia and their allies put up a good fight, and I look forward to seeing future developments on this front.

Question 11: How are relations with Pacifica allies fairing?

Naz: Ties in Pacifica are going well. We make sure to maintain communication about priorities and we continue to work well together.

Question 12: In one of your latest articles you addressed the threats of an airstrike on the USA. Do you think anyone will carry out such a threat?

Naz: Uncertain at this point. Indonesia’s allies have proven their determination to keep up the fight, so I wouldn’t put it past them. We shall see in the coming days what occurs.

Question 13: Is there any advice you’d like to give to the next PoTUS on Feb. 6th?

Naz: I would say that they shouldn’t focus entirely on what war to fight next. A lot of our deterioration at home is caused by the belief that we are primarily driven by and require a direct war. If my administration’s focus on DoCA and Media this term is any indication, I think that future administrations should also pay attention to these areas.

There you have it. I may have asked some boring questions about topics nobody even cares about, but I want to personally thank Azazel Romanov, or Naz as he's more often called, for taking the time to answer them anyway. I personally haven’t been around that long; I’ve really only seen about 4 different CP/D’s. But so far Naz is my favorite one.

As he said in his latest article, “My only goal as president was to quiet everyone down a bit from last month, and then to focus on what lies ahead of us rather than behind us.” He also made it clear that he was not going to run for re-election. So I say thank you Naz for your great job so far, and I hope the rest of your term goes well.

He also wrote: “I’d like to see the next round of individuals come into play. I want to see a new resurgence in the interest of leading this nation.” And like Naz, I too would like to see some new faces in the Executive office. Who knows, those new faces may get into strange interviews with somebody like me!
